Stuff you hate to hear another Bassist Say

Merry Christmas! In fact, why blaming guitarists playing bass? I had my first gig as a guitarist in 1983 and the first as a bass player in 1986. Since that decade, I used in my guitar evolution all what I've learned on the bass (and double-bass) and vice-versa. I do realy believe that a complete musician must know also a bit of everything - including electronics (fixing cables on stage, e.g.) or mixing and editing. Maybe I'm wrong?

I agree, absolutely. I play BG(finger, slap, pick) and upright(jazz and classical), drums, percussion (concert, marching, latin), mandolin, guitar, tuba, and I sing. I just don't like guitarists (or any musicians) who think that because they play one string instrument they can play all of them. You must dedicate specific practice and listening time to each instrument to develop musical ability on the said instruments. That being said, many guitarists and bassists freely switch between the two and are fantastic at both (Paul McCartney, Lenny Kravitz, Donald Fagan, Omar Rodriguez, etc). Unfortunately, you don't encounter gifted musicians such as these on a daily basis. Plenty of ignorant ones, though. Happy holidays!

Playing fast or thumping and slapping (which only a few players can do) never impresses me.

(Me: Yeah, you know, Sid Vicious had a Fender P-bass too :D )

"Maan, you shloud lower you bass, why you use so short strap? Soon you'll put it on your forehead"
(I have 110 cm - from hole to hole on my strap )

"Pbass is nice, but basses with two pickups sounds better"

I sit down at lunch at school last year, and an "acquaintance" of mine(who says he plays bass) turns to me and out of the blue says, "Dude, I was in jail the other night, and I was trippin' on acid, and Jimi Hendrix came into my cell! And he was playing Pink Floyd songs!"
"Why would Jimi be playing Pink Floyd?" was all I said.
Later in the year, I got a Geddy Lee Jazz bass for my birthday, and he found out, and says to me, "I heard you got a bass for your birthday, whatdidya get?"
"A Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass."
"Nice! I used to have one of those. I was playing at OzzFest last year and some *** threw a beer bottle on stage and hit the neck of mine and it snapped in half! Man, I jumped down into the crowd and kicked that guy's ass!"
"Wow..." (Talk about Fender's quality control...) jk...
