SX Stingray

I'm paying close attention to these reviews... keep 'em coming! So far it seems that the consensus is that the 5-string MM has a reasonably tight B string. I've got a SJB-62 5er and the B is a bit toughy & flabby, but serviceable. I'm pretty excited about the SX stingray, but I have to save and/or sell a couple items to afford it, so it's a semi long-range goal.

excellently put and equally justifiable for the OLP and the SX. how many people when talking about the new SX MM they just got aren't going to mention that it's a copy and how cool and expensive the real ones are? about how they can't wait to own one someday? not too many i would think.

btw.... rondo is currently SOLD OUT of SXMM 4 stringers. the masses have spoken. :hiding:

And when they spoke, they said, "We'll buy this cheap rip-off of a design that someone else sweated over!

I think I also heard the masses add, "We know that most of the parts are pure crap, but basses should only cost 180 dollars, because they're just parts!"

People say 'You get what you pay for', but sometimes you get so much less.

Personally, I was thinking more along the lines of "this bass has the features I'm looking for, and I can only afford a $200 bass in the forseeable future. And to afford even this bass I'll have to sell a couple pieces of equipment at that." I'd be happy to buy a EBMM, but I don't have, nor will I have the income to allow such a purchase for some time to come, so I don't feel bad about getting an affordable-to-me clone with specific features. Besides, I'm aiming for the 5-string, which doesn't violate the 3+1 tuner issue.

Yeah, OLP comes to mind with the last part of that statement. If it didn't so many people wouldn't be so crazy over the SX MM copy if OLP could get their QC up to at least Squier standards. I've been largely unimpressed with the ~10 or so I've had my hands on in the last couple years. I'm not buying an SX MM at this point though, as with 2 P/J and 1 P style basses right now I think a Jazz is next in line for me.

Whoa do you cry this much over the gazilion Jazz copies too? Or do you just have shares in EB?

I really don't want to stir anything up, but I've gotta be honest with you, bovinehost, your comments on this page (about "the people have spoken") went beyond any sort of actual criticism; they came off as trolling. I've been around TB for awhile and totally respect you as a member here, and I totally understand your concerns with the SX product, but I can't defend your remarks about the product, where you say the parts are "pure crap" when you've never tried this bass.

You are absolutely right that this bass violates EBMM's trademark (I think we settled that it was a trademark vs. copyright, anyways) with the 3+1 headstock, but your best course of action is to forward the info on to EBMM's legal department. Sure, point it out on here, and be upset with the makers of the bass, but don't blast the bass without having played one (the biggest thing you could legitimately say is that the bass is no comparison to it's EBMM "brother", which is something that I'm sure everyone, even compulsive SX buyers and owners of this bass, will agree to), that's simply ignorant.

My point was why are people upset to the point of being rude about another knock off. Do you honestly think the folks over at EB are this upset? Im mean I could understand if it was your personal design (in that case I would sue) but people will always buy cheap knockoffs thats just the way of the world. IF EB thought about it this much Im sure he would sue. But SX isnt the only EB knock off ther are others.
