Hello, Mr. Nylon here. The only strings I use are D'Addario ETB92, and ETB92S strings on my 4 Axes. The Fender Am. Std. P Bass, and the 2 Fender Am. Std. J Basses, are all strung through the body, with the ETB92 long scales. The Gibson SG Spl. is strung with the ETB92S short scales. I've been using ETB92 Nylons for a couple of years now, and wouldn't think of stringing with anything else. It's nice to see other players appreciating Nylon strings.

Yes! A Tapewound club, how cool, count me in.
I have La Bella black tapes on my Jazz deluxe 5, La Bella white tapes light gage on my Alembic essence and Roto tapes on my Squier Jazz 5.
So far my favorites are the white tapes. They sound like a broken in set of nickel round wounds to me. The Rotos are my least favorite due to what feels like an excessively high tension and harder plastic feel vs the La Bella's.

WOOOO :jawdrop: Yeah the MB-4 was my first bass too! spent my whole first ever paycheck on it. I thought for the longest time It was just a lame cheap Squier but I found out many years later all it needed whas a good set of strings and to be plugged into a good amp. All I had for years was a hand me down Jensen (i think) 10w open back guitar amp with a 12" Jensen speaker and only had 3 controls, gain, tone and master.

Ive used them a few times over the years, mainly because i played fretless. I got a deal on La Bella Deep Talking 115's about a year ago and i put em on my Fretted Marco Bass, im on my thrid set now, just the right amount of brightness, tons of thump and mids that cut through the mix, i havnt thoughth about rounds at all since... I got another Bass recently in a trade and i put DR flats on it, they dont sound nearly as good as La Bella tapes.

I may have to break down and try the White Tapes... Although, I LOVE the "Thump" of the Black Tapes more than I can explain. Super Bright strings are not my Cup-O-Tea... I should try them to say I have. though.:beaver:

I have a set of fender tapes on my ibanez soundgear bass with dual MM style pups. I got them because i wanted a quasi-roundwound sound (without all that spanky treble) but i really, REALLY hate the feeling of rounds under my fingers... It just sends chills up my spine.

So anyway, this bass gets used for funk and rock mostly. Its my "playing in a super loud rock club" bass and i find the fender tapes - while much lower tension than i tend to prefer - is the perfect middle ground between the sound/flexibility i was hoping for and the fingertip feeling that i enjoy. On this bass, I'll never use anything but tapewounds.

I used Nylons in 1969-1970 on a Gibson EB0, they were real tapewounds, soft, and the tape would actually start to unwind as you played them. The ETB92 D'Addario Nylons are round, but with the flat string sound, and a pounding thump. It doesn't get any better than that. A lot better than the early Nylons, anyway.

Me again...I posted about my tapewound experience on the previous page but didn't ask for a number...so am I #20???

Thank you...and thanks to the rest for posting all of the info. Very helpful. Now I have to go get a set of LaBella white tapes and D'Addario Tapes to try.

Oh, to be 18 again! (Not sure how I survived it the first time):cool:

I've always been a huge black tape fan and utterly detest bright zingy strings. So I went into the La Bella white tapes realm very cautiously, to the point that I even went with the light gauge so I wouldn't have to modify the nut if I didn't like them. All I can say is, you've got to try them, well worth the money and along the same tone and feel as the blacks but a bit more mid focused and a bit more slick. The blacks have a slightly darker and more woody sound to me, which I've always liked. I don't see the whites replacing my blacks but now I have another string choice that has all the things I love about the La Bella black tapewounds but can be used on my basses that are naturally darker i.e. Fender modern player telecaster, Fender Precision, any bass with humbuckers, etc. :bassist:

Currently enjoying a set of D'Addario ETB92. A very good match. Plays like soft butta on a hot July afternoon.
For the Fretless folks.....how do TW's work on the fretless? I usually have Nickel RW's on my Warwick Corvette FL.....
