TC Electronic RH750 ???!??

Just stumbled across this in my download folder as a PDF file, just converted it to JPG so it could be visible from the post.

People have asked for the frequencies represented by each click on the dials. Someone simply calculated this one out, and I have no idea how accurate it is, but FWIW...

I'm thinking of getting rid of my RH750. What are some amps that are in the same ball park as small, light weight, 500 watters that have a full sound? I've tried the Shuttle 9.0 and Carvin BX500 already. I'm not looking for something that is emulating an old school sound, more the modern tone is what I dig. What else is worth a look?

Have you tried the Streamliner 900? I run mine pretty clean on the input .. and it is wide full with an airy top depending on your bass and cab selection

WTX-500?

Is it similar to the Shuttle 9.0? I've had that one.

The Eden's I've played have always had that slightly squashed sound to them, kinda like the SWR amps. My Carvin BX500 might be the way to go, but the RH750 sounds a little to my ears.

On my RH750, I've had to heavily tweak the EQ to get a modern sound out of it. As an Eden user I'm not used to that; in fact, I'm a little uncomfortable with it but, hey, that's what the EQ controls are for.

The WTX-500 doesn't have the inherent Eden sound when set "flat." It takes a nudge here and there to get the WT-series sound.

Markbass heads!!!

I just tried your settings and they weren't my thing really. I do like the bass around 100hz and the highs up high, but I use the low mid to control the 150-200 range for a little girth as needed. I only boost the bass a couple of clicks, one on the low mids. Noon on the high mid and 2-3 clicks up on the treble. No TubeTone, rarely use the compressor.

I know it sounds funny but this amp really doesn't need any compression, I can feel the compression/limiting taking place in the amp naturally. Don't get me wrong, it does a great, natural sounding job at that, but I don't feel the need to pile on.

I just spent the last 30min A/B'ing my Carvin BX500 to the RH750 between my Golight Jr's, playing with one cab each, then swapping. The RH750 just sounds better across the board. Louder, cleaner, the APM tricks work. One thing I notice though, the Carvin BX500 makes the speakers move quite a bit more at a less perceived volume to my ear. Guess that is APM at work.

It sounds so good, I may just have to keep the dang thing.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. What's the loudest, most modern sounding one of those in the same form factor?
IMHO, the GK MB heads... especially once the MB 800 is shipping. I'm planning on getting one myself.

I love the Markbass products a LOT, but the GK stuff is more "modern" sounding to me. The Markbass stuff is more "flat" sounding to me... and that's not flat as lifeless, that's flat as in voicing.

IMHO/IME anyway.

It sounds like you dig the RH750; it's the company you don't like, and I get that (RH450 owner here). Unfortunately, I don't think there's a 1:1 trade that's going to get you an RH750 with a different label, certainly not from Markbass. I have an F1, a very "modern"-sounding head, loud (though not as loud as the RH450), but a very long way away tonally from the TCE head. The LM series might get you closer, but again, they're not going to be as loud.

I have the Aguilar ToneHammer pedal, I think their head version looks very promising, and seems to be more than fairly rated in terms of power. If it had come out a little earlier, I'd probably have one instead of the RH450.

I took his post to suggest he wasn't that happy with it and wanted something more modern sounding.

Jarrett? Can we get a judgment call on this? :)
It's strictly a moral deal. The amp isn't my favorite sounding amp I've ever played, but the sum of what it brings to the table makes it my fave for me right now. I actually like the sound of the B series stuff from TC better but I'm tired of lugging 30+ pounds around just for the head. Sometimes I just use my amp as a DI and the micros work great for that as well, not to mention I hate using pedal or clip on tuners, so that's a big plus for me.

The lie is the main driver for me thinking of getting rid of it and is being compounded daily by TC continually ignoring their customers at this point. Yes, I saw Uffe said he had a child and that's great, but he can't be the only person that works at TC that could make a statement about this. If the RH750 actually had a peer, I would buy it right now, but it seems that it does not. So I am stuck with the perfect amp for me made by a company I don't want to do business with.

Ahhh, ok, I get it.

In that case, I withdraw my GK suggestion. I don't think that'd be the right way to go for ya, and instead, I'd say maybe Markbass, or possibly the GB Shuttle 9.0. There may be others, but those are the ones that come to mind right now for me anyway.

So have you researched which companies produce amps with "honest" power ratings? Maybe TC just has the misfortune of being the latest to be reviewed by Bass Gear. I have a hunch that you'll find quite a number of amp manufacturers who puff up their power ratings.

FWIW, Markbass and I believe Ampeg benched pretty close to spec when tested by BGM. Tom will no doubt provide more details.
