If you're a fan of TubeDrive and SpectraComp (the popular combination), the original BG250 is the one.

Looks like GC has the original 250 for 299 right now. I haven't seen pricing on the 2x8 model. Since it's the only model with an extra speaker output, I'd love it for practice, tiny bars where we play semi acoustic and still have the same 250 watts to add into a bigger lower cab. A tall 2x10 or 2x12 with the little guy on top facin me. I'm cool with just one tone print at a time. Probably just leave spectracomp on all the time an swap in tube drive occasionally for grit.

BG250-115 MAP $399
BG250-210 MAP $459
BG250-208 MAP $499 (MSRP $750)

When the TCE rep posted here that the US price would be $499 for the 208, I didn't think the company would address MAP prices...wrong, yet again.

There don't appear to be final price lists distributed, so I suppose there could be changes.

IMO, that difference between the 115 and 210 is a pricing fail. They sound slightly different, and it's a difference where anyone might find either one preferable.

Since the BH250 isn't detachable from the 208, IMVHO, that is a design and pricing fail. A latch and pegs instead of screws/bolts would have been all that was necessary to make that happen. Not being detachable, I see it as the lowest rung on the BG250 ladder. Extension cab support? Meh...that's not a high value feature to me. I think "primary use" is the main consideration. I don't see buying a combo with primary use being with an extension cabinet...if that's the case, why buy a combo? Trying to (personally) envision the utility of the 208 in terms of extension cabinet use, I have great difficulty not seeing it essentially becoming a 25lb BH250.

Thanks for the pricing bits!

$500 is alot, IMHO for a dedicated 2x8 cab. I would see the 208 almost needing an extension cab, especially with a 5 string. Having a detachable head would be a selling point. $500 (or close to it) can buy you a heck of lot more rig than a 2x8....

The reality for me is that my 250-115 gives me an easy solution for rehearsals and what not with footswitch-activated compressor and grind functionality. So I can travel light most of the time (though I bring a pedal board for gigs). I'd love to have a go at that 210, but there's no compelling reason for me to buy one of these new-generation cabs, as I'd actually lose half of the reasons I bought it in the first place.

Thanks for your info on this drpepper - and I agree on all counts. At that price and without being able to detach the head I would never consider the 208. The 210 shouldn't be priced more than the 115. And the one-Toneprint-at-a-time deal is a fail all the way around.

Do you think there is any significant difference between the BH250/BG-208 and power section of the other BG combos?

The best deal going right now is the original BG250 (115) for 300 bucks!
I bought a couple of tube heads recently (I also have 2 Genz Focus 115 cabs and an Eden EX112) but when it comes down to gigging I almost always grab the BG250 combo. I played a corporate party in a hotel ballroom last Saturday night. It was not a loud gig, but the PA was large with dual 18" subs per side. I had the BG's gain on 6 and the master on 4 1/2 (passive Am Std Jazz) and the sound guys told me to turn down!

I bet the 12 would be very clear, I'm surprised that there aren't more 1x12 or 2x12 on the market (though I haven't looked lately, to be honest).

I know of a bass player in NJ that would use 12 cabs for both his Jazz bass and his Double bass (upright).

I'd probably switch to the 210, and still might. I guess looking at the overall picture, I think the price difference should be equal to the difference in TCE's cost of one 15" driver and two 10" drivers. I can't say what that is, but my gut says that difference is not $60.

Anyone know of an offering where the only difference is 1-15" vs 2-10"? Carvin MB15 and MB210...same amp section...same price.

As far as I understand the BH250 and BG250 amp section are the same with the difference being the two TonePrint slots, input gain, and the BH250 has a fan.

Personally, I don't make much use of TonePrints, so one or two doesn't matter to me. Same with TubeDrive.

Yeah. I'd love to have a 208, but not now, and not at that price.

Here in Japan they're retailing 4 around the same prices if ¥100 = $1.00 so same as US & EU. Tried the 208 with a J bass 4 & really liked it but want 2 try with my thumb 5 b4 getting serious about it. Salesman also told me price diff is due 2 the extra speaker numbers, hence 208 is more $ than 12 & 210 more than 15. Kinda logical....anyway I can see a 208 in my future.......
