TC RH750 part II

I have the classic 450 and yes it is the same basic tone, but with no parametrics or tweetertone.

The tone is ALMOST perfect for me. Almost no treble to speak of - very warm and mid present.

I just wish the bass control was centred a little lower.

I love the build quality (your guy's knob problems aside). The thick steel case and carry handle are awesome. It doesn't feel like a toy like other micros (cough..GK..cough.

I reconfigured my position in the band setup and placed my vertically stacked 210 & 212 just behind me partially facing toward the drummer. At the end of the second set he thanked me for the change as he can hear and also feel the bass lines. I have to admit that we were really tight on the night. I must admit I am getting better at tweaking the tone shaping as well.
I think that I will always dedicate a bin for the drummer the results were great.
Anyone have or know of a place I can get a foot switch - inexpensively?

Ok, I'm ready to try another amp. I want something that is more modern hi fi sounding than the RH750. For those that have played the RH750 and the other micros, what amp is roughly the same size with somewhere near the same output but with a much more modern hi fi, bell like tone? Thanks in advance.

Jarrett,

I have the RH750 and the Ampeg SVT-7 Pro. The Ampeg is a little bigger than the RH750 and weighs about 14 pounds so it's not in the same league size wise as the RH750. That being said I don't find the size difference that big of a deal in transport unless you are walking to gigs.

I like the tube-like growl I get with the RH750 a bit better than the unassisted SVT-7. I like the SVT-7's clean tones much better than the RH750. You can EQ a good mid-range punchy tone as well as a nice slightly-scooped tone to get that bell like sound out of the SVT-7. I find at high volumes (120db+) the Ampeg was able to stay clean where the RH750, no matter how it's EQ'd, tends to get dirty at high-volume.

The SVT-7 can do a decent dirt/gritty tone with the gain up high and mix in the compressor. The grit sounds good on the note attack but I find that the grit decays faster than the note decays on sustain. When I add a Sansamp Paradriver or RPM to the SVT-7 I get grit that decays at the same rate as the note on sustain. However in practical terms the unassisted grit on the SVT-7 is fine for live gigs. But if I ever recorded I would use the Sansamp to add grit. What I mean by this is you can use the SVT-7 all by itself at a gig and get plenty of clean, punchy, or grit tones by fiddling with knobs.

Cool thing about the SVT-7 is the effects mix level on the front. If I want grit from another source (like a sansamp) I can mix the clean ampeg signal with the grit from the sansamp and really fine tune clean/grit ratio. I find that very useful. Can have the SVT-7 set up for clean and when need to add grit, can just turn up the mix from the effects loop to the desired level of grit without messing with the clean mix EQ. I think a foot control is available for the effects loop if needed but I've not looked into it.

As far as output, when I had each running at 8 ohms the SPL output seemed to be similar. However when I added an extra cab and the load was 4 ohms, the Ampeg took the lead in SPL.

I like having both, but if you put a gun to me I would take the SVT-7 because of the tonal flexibility. However it's hard to replace the full-package features (tuner, tube tone, presets, etc) in the RH750 with any other amp out there.

All experience with both of these amps is through fEARful 15/6/1 cabinets so mileage/tone/satisfaction may vary.

Crap. The mute knob on mine has cracked. Mem2 has a line that may or may not end up being a crack. Not sure about getting it fixed. I had the knobs break; they replaced them with identical knobs. If they replace the button with an identical button, there is no reason to believe the replacements wont eventually crack too. Or that other buttons crack after I get the first fixed. Too ad this isn't a DIY fix. Based on Munji's experience, I would be without the amp for a couple weeks.

I take very good care of this thing. It travels in a waterproof, padded road case and the amp looks brand new. Little problems like this are more frustrating than if the amp failed altogether.

I don't think it matters whether you take good care of it or not. The buttons on mine cracked with very little use, and certainly no abuse. I too hope that they replaced them with some made of better plastic. The buttons on mine cracked after I asked them to send me new knobs, several of which had broken. Then, when the buttons cracked, I sent the amp back for repair and, in the meantime, my new knobs came. They put new knobs on when they fixed the buttons, so now I have a whole set of spares.

Anyway, if the new buttons and knobs hold up, I will consider myself to have been treated well by TCE.
