So I just noticed yesterday that my 1048h has a buzz when I play the seventh fret on the f string (c standard tuning). It gets louder as I raise the volume and isn't present at the lowest volume. I've taken off everything that I can possibly take off and felt around while buzzing and I can't find the issue. I'm playing through a v-type 300h head if it helps. At this point I'm thinking it's the horn. The sound is coming from the front of the cab. The horn attenuator has no stopping point, it just spins freely so I don't think I'm having effect on it. There's resistance but doesn't stop. I don't use the horn and at this point I'm thinking of cutting the wire. I just can't take this buzz. Help

If you do snip your horn be sure to refer to your cab as a 1048 from there on in. :D

My 1048h rattles but that's because my amp is loud. Both port covers have been smashed off and I think it's making the grill rattle. Either that or one of my speakers has finally crapped out on me. Anyway, who cares. My favourite thing about my 1048h is that I can frequently ride it around the stage and jump off it and use an amp that nearly doubles it wattage rating and it doesn't even break a sweat. I think the cab will probably outlive me.

This one is definitely a buzz. It goes away for short periods and reminds me how much I love it but then comes right back. It's driving me crazy. I'd hate to cut the wire and it still be there. I just don't know.

I tried upping the horn. I think the knob is fuct. Like I said it just turns and doesn't stop. No change in sound or buzz. In going to double check the screws tomorrow. They are more difficult because they actually have a internal nut. I think I'm also going to pull it out and see if it makes the buzz if it's out.

I have another bass on the way. I'll check that when it gets here on Thursday.

I really just don't know.

I think I figured it out. I did some more prodding tonight and found that when any part of a specific driver cone it would get worse. If I applied constant pressure it would stay constant. If I pushed repeatedly the buzz would follow my pressure. The harder I pushed the louder it got.

First, is the speaker blown? I expected true distortion. This is buzzing.
I think either way something needs to be done.

Second, will reconing fix this? I can't afford 4 new drivers and would like to keep the cab close to original if not purely for the aesthetic value. Are there any cons from only reconing one?

To answer the inevitable before being a posed. I recently bought the cab used and I'm thinking it was already blown and I didn't realize so I have no way of knowing what caused it in the first place.

Thanks for help.

Here's a pic of my rig currently. The carpeted cab has a speaker with a dust cap that's owning off. Anyone know what I can use to reglue it?

Might only be the spider come unstuck at the junction, or the cone surround.

If it comes to it, reconing with a similar kit would probably sound close enough in 4x10. I don't know that there are any oem left.

Hey guys. My 1524's bottom speaker has a tear and I may have to replace it. Repearing it will be cheaper and I still prefer to have the "original" speaker, for both sound and long term value, but this may also be a chance to make my cab sound better.

I'm always heartily open to your suggestions. Are there any 15'' speakers that will sound nicely with the other 1524 speaker and my GP7SM250? It sucks to have to change something in my rig as a result of an accident but let's just hope all this is for the better.

Ouch, how did that happen? Afaik original reconing kits are all gone. BritishAudio should know if there is a compatible recone.

Maybe you're thinking to bodgy it up, I've seen some go for years when a hole has been patched over.

I wouldn't buy a single new Eminence Legend or 3015 for it. Either should work as a pair.

Anyone have/had an SMX compressor pedal? There's one up on ad and I'm temped by it, assuming that I can find a proper 18V power supply for it...
Works just like the smx preamp but with footswitches. Simple and unobtrusive unless you crank it. The balance control is magic, leave it in the middle and when you want a dub tone twist to 10 o'clock, instant dub!
It is light on batteries, a mere 5mA iirc. To get going on 18v just needs the right barrel tip wired centre +. Or red and green Godlyke cables converts from regular Boss plug.

That's a great description and spot-on. Even turning it one notch has a profound effect without being heavy-handed.

BTW, the suggested EQ setting in the SMX manual is also on target and demo's what I call "seagull in flight".

"profound without being heavy handed", spot on too. It boosts the bass end while lowering the high end, while still sounding "the same" if you get what I mean. It kinda seesaws the EQ. Probably not, that sounds ridiculous but if you buy it you will understand.
