Question for the fridge experts. I'm running a v4b through my 70s 810 (look above for pictures) and I was wondering if running the amp well into dirt territory (10:30-12:00) at all times will be alright for the original drivers. It definitely sounds amazing and fills up a medium sized bar. I figure the 100 watt head shouldn't be an issue.

I am going to acquire a black line svt in a month. How will the speakers handle that beast? Obviously I won't need all the volume that the svt can deliver at every gig.

And finally...if I do play in drop d or even drop c tuning will I risk blowing the speakers? Im not sure if they were built with that in mind.

With any head, you can get speakers to crap out if you use pretty extreme EQ settings. But otherwise, the 70s 810 should be able to handle that V4B just fine. The Blackline might be different though. These cabs were originally rated for around 250W, and Ampeg intended for SVTs to run into 2 of these. Drop C should still be fine, but the bass is rolled off quite a bit on these sealed cabs.

Wow this cab just blew me away. Worth every penny. Not just the volume but the tone and clarity are rock solid. I am running thru a Bugera BVP5500 and it is rockin the house down. But i think i'm gassin for a GK 1001 MKII.

Well, I don't have a picture. What I really wanted to do was comment on the 810. i was, for a while, into the small lightweight rig - and still have several things to choose from. The deal was, although I could always hear myself on stage, I could not feel it like I wanted. I was always trying to increase bass feqs to get to that feel level and then would usually cause booming in small to medium bars. As well as push my amp too hard to do this - always ported cabs by the way. So on a whim i ran across a good deal to trade a bass straight across for an Ampeg 810e in good condition. Fast forward to my first show.......... Wow. Really, wow! I was not trying to push really loud volumes but the feel, the fullness and the instant slotting into the mix was really something new for me. I am amazed I have never played through one in over 20 years playing but just never did. I honestly feel a little funny about rolling it in to small clubs but gosh it seem s worth it to me as long as there are no stairs. Otherwise it was not really that much harder to move than other band gear - PA etc. I think I am really hooked. I got the idea from watching a band called Marbin - they play all over the US and the bassist always uses this same cab in all kinds of venue sizes, watches his volume and sounds really good. Glad I did. Okay, enough with that, on with the thread.

Decades after using an SVT & 2 cabs in the 70's~80's(sold in 1989), another 8x10 is being ordered now to use "when needed". Owners of 8x10's know what that means.
This one will be used when we do outdoors with/without FOH or larger indoor venues with unknown FOH operator ability. At 59 going on 60....some ask WHY?

We did a double bill benefit show with "The Rankin Twins" last year and I got to use their bassists' beat-to-heck rig which was a SansAmp pedal DI->GK900(?)->SVT 8x10. Old memories of the glorious envelope of sound that these cabs can do made me want another one. Preliminary amp will be Line 6 board(maybe)->SansAmpRBI->dbx166xL->QSC2402->8x10.

Still researching tube amps but having done my own maintenance & repairs for that earlier decade+, I may not go back to them. Never had a failure with the old SVT but I did add a fan, rebuild the power supply a few times, and change tubes a few times. Not sure if that should be re-visited.....
