you can if you connect each pair of 8 ohm cabs in series (with a series cord or series box) for a 16 ohm load, and then plug them into the output jacks of the head for a total load of 8 ohms.

.....but you cannot daisy chain the four cabs or you'll be at 2 ohms, which is below the minimum load requirement for the head.

I don't remember which head he has - but the B-600H and the B-450 WILL do 2Ω.

So's the B-450:::

The B450 features two inputs - one for passive and one for active pickups - plus input gain and output volume controls. The clip indicator lets you know when your signal is overdriving the preamp, although the harmonically rich distortion of the B450's preamp circuit will make you want to overdrive it! Add the 6-band EQ and footswitch-controlled notch filter into the mix, and you have total tone control. The tuner send signal, coupled with the footwitchable mute function, lets you tune your bass silently on stage. The rear panel offers an array of possibilities, including an external speaker output which allows you to add additional speaker cabinets (down to a 2 ohm load) for earth-shaking bottom. This will increase the total output to an incredible 600 watts (2 ohms).

I am thinking of picking up another acoustic amp. In the process of getting a fender kingman acoustic bass. With this new amp I am looking for easy portability. So small and light weight. Want to be able to play with a couple of acoustic guitars with out having to play with a pick (unless I want to). Was also thinking that if I got a non acoustic bass - acoustic amp I could also use it for practice when I head down to my girlfriends place for the weekend if I decide to bring my Jazz bass. Would it be ok to use a regular bass amp instead of one made for acoustic bases? What would be the pros and cons of going this direction? I currently do not have any plans of playing in a club with an acoustic bass. What size/model would you recommend? Thanks!!

edit:
Was thinking of the acoustic B10 or B20 due to price (do not have a lot to spend). Or would I be better ahead with the B100?

The B-100 is pretty nice - and even though I advocate more Watts and more drivers, you'll prolly do fine that way too.

I have a B-20 just for my harmonicas - I even use a Fender Squier BP-15, and although the Acoustic literally smokes the Fender, there isn't any way I'd consider using them for anything but harmonicas.

They can be loud, but not really bass-y. A bass will push either of them pretty hard when you need any decent volume.

I really like my Acoustic gear - a lot.

How many watts does the B600H put out at 8 ohms? The manual says 600 at 2, I'm going to assume 450 at 4(because it's the same as the B450 combo, right?), so what's 8? Really lovin' my head with the B810, Thinking about picking up a 115Neo for the small stuff, and eventually a second if I like it so I can have options of 115, 215s, or 810, yummy...

Does anyone else get a bit of a fuzzy from your amp when the strings are dying down from a note? It's when the sound coming out is very soft. At normal playing levels, no problem. Now it could be my bass. The active on board preamp is going to be replaced some time this week (bass pot isn't working anymore along with a pop when you touch the strings. The grounds look okay so I think it's the preamp.) I'm hoping it's a bass problem and not the amp. I use a 600 with 410. Thanks!!

Ok was thinking of putting this in its own thread. However I thought I might be better posting this in the acoustic club thread. I found a vintage acoustic 450 for $250.
Here is what the ad said "THESE AMPS ARE GREAT ITS A LATE 70s ACOUSTIC 450 BASS AMPLIFIER.THESE AMPS ARE VERY DEPENABLE.USED BY JACO THERE REAL SCREAMERS BRING YOUR CABINET AND BASS AND TAKE IT FOR A TEST DRIVE " Looking at the pics, it looks like it is in really good shape. Of course I would need to check it out first. I read up on some of the postings on this head before posting this message. From what I gather the head is 170 watts rms. Has a distortion circuit and can be used for either bass or guitar.

1)Now first of all I was not aware that Jaco used any other acoustic than a 360/361?

2) Is this a good price for this amp if it works?

However this would probably be more of an impulse buy, I don't really see myself needing this head. Suppose there is better things I could spend my money on but saw it and got GAS!!!

1) AFAIK he only used a 360, but I'm not a huge Jaco nerd so I'm not certain. Someone else should know for sure.

2) I think that's a good price, about what I paid for mine

I feel you can never have too many toys.

Jaco played 320/408 setup as well as the 360/361. The seller is probably referring to the fact that Jaco used Acoustic, not necessarily the 450. The 450 is a decent head. $250 is THE MOST I would pay for one. It would have to be in perfect shape. $150-200 would be what I would pay.

I know you probably own the most Acoustic gear here, so I trust you, but how did you figger? Is the B450 combo at 8 ohms, and can then go to 2?(or 2.67, since you would plug a single 4 ohm with the 8 ohm combo?)

Since the B-450 has a B-600 head inside it, you can load it to 2Ω. It has a 210 + horn in it.

Internally, the load on the amp in the B-450 is 8Ω.

Adding another cab - either a B-410 or a B-115, puts another 8Ω load on it to take it to 4Ω at about 525 Watts.

Adding another B-410 or B-115 cab takes the load to 2.67Ω and tops the amp at 600 Watts.

Now - here's the rat turd in the oatmeal ------

If you use the B-450 and a B-115, it will sound pretty good at decent but not exceptionally high volume levels. Just listen for the 115 to go into stress and try to keep the volume lower than what it takes to get it into trouble.

I like running the B-450 with either a B-115 or a B-410 and they sound pretty good.

But the BEST setup would be to put the B-450 on TOP of a B-210Neo. That would keep the number of drivers and the loads at pretty close to exactly the same value.

For something unique, you could go with a pair of B-210Ns on the bottom and the B-450 on top of the whole stack. Bring a ladder. That would give you 6-10s and three horns and a very good match up.

Dimensionally, the B-450 and the B-210s are exactly the same width and will stack very nicely.
