The puzzle pieces are falling together....![]()
You did got me motivated to test the Jensen. Previously I did a visual inspection and repaired a couple small tears, to make sure they didn't get any worse. It's back in the cab. I removed the stock leader from it (it needed to be done), cleaned the tabs, made a leader to hook it up to some of my other amps.
It works great! I started with my little 2 watt Fender Greta, sounded beautiful. Moved up to my MonoPrice/Stage Right 5 watt amp. All good. I then tried it with my homemade 5F1 Champ. WOW! It sounded phenomenal! There's something about a vintage speaker with a vintage (even a copy) circuit. I finally took it to my 6G2 Brownface Princeton. Holy smokes! That was a sweet sound. A sweet tone you can only get from a big speaker! Rich, full and harmonic. The Weber 12A125A sounds fantastic in this amp, but the C15-PS put the amps tone to the next level!
The C15 will stay in the amp while I get it working, but I do plan on replacing it. I'm looking at a Weber 15F150B, with a British "Blue" cone. I'll give it a try with the bass then.
As for the Ashdown, it was sort of a let down. Stock it wasn't as loud as and full sounding as a 30 watt 8" bass combo should be. It was a nice warm sound, but lacked low end. At best it was a mid-bass tone. The speaker broke up way too soon and didn't have much sensitivity. They gave up too much by going with such an inexpensive, light weight speaker. The FaitalPRO gave it all the tone and volume it should have had in the beginning. As for the constructed with Poplar ply, I didn't see any when I had it open. All I saw was some sort of engineered wood product, with a finer grain and lighter than MDF. It is a great sounding practice combo now. It could record from the speaker now and sound fantastic. At the price it goes for now and the quality you are paying for, it really needs a better speaker, even if it adds to the weight.

LaBella LTF's v GHS Brite Flats
Going back to Combo related content, I saw this vid and it makes me want one of the new Nano combos from Phil Jones even more.

Have not found the Brite Flats to be notably stiff to play. Maybe I'm just not used to particularly low-tension flats?I love the sound but not the stiffness of the Brite Flats.
What will it take to pry the BA108v2+ out of my hands?!

@iagtrplyr AKA Fearless Leader AKA Mike thank you for your service to this club. It’s the only online social media for me. You have always made me feel welcome. My son and wife work in a school so I have a good idea of what your going through. It’s not been easy for educators during this pandemic so my hats off to you. And you kept this thing going. I think I speak for everyone here when I say we all appreciate you. And you f course this is not goodbye. You will still be lurking the halls with your sycth? It’s just time for @swink to run the show? Or was that @SoulReflection ? Or maybe I’m totally wrong but it could have been @Miles_ONeal or @RodRy or @Doctor Intrepid but I get confused in my old age. But I do believe that @swink had indicated…… but any of them would be great at it!
Thanks for everything Mike and be safe!
Thanks Jim but I’m a newby here! And I’m just so busy being a Covid Case Investigator now these days (I thought I retired in 2016!) I just can’t commit to it. But thank you for saying that. Very kind of you. I forgot to add @Morrighan too!Hey, @Michael Favata...fingers are being point at you!

Hear ye, hear ye, I have an announcement and it couldn't be finer than if I scored a playing gig with GP in Florida!
It is with utmost humility and also a dash of excitement that I, on Friday at 5:00 PM CST, announce that yes indeed, we have a new Fearless Leader, who answered the call and has accepted the position good for as long as he would like to serve (I recommended one year, but he's the new guy and will set his own rules). His reign will begin in exactly seven hours, Midnight CST, so it'll be super easy to remember how long he'll be in office.
While I have no idea what will be happening to the club and its current staff of loyal employees, I am supremely confident that we are in good hands with this gentleman leading the way. He has my full support and I will be on as often as I can to see that things are running smoothly. Follow him as you did me...with a positive spirit and an eagerness to enjoy good banter and maybe even a piece of valid info along the way.
I'd like to thank each and every one of you for the wonderful comments I've read today. Truly, it was my pleasure in serving, and what was said, reviving a dying club. May the Combo Club live long and prosperous!
Your new leader for the year 2022 and beyond is...Miles_ONeal. Let's hear it for Miles!
Thank you, Miles. for taking on this position so I can use what brain cells I have left to concentrate on fourth and fifth graders for another half year. As G'dog has told me countless times, "I don't know how you do it," and he was right. I had no clue, but I can sit in the cheap seats now and chime in when the time is right.
Thanks again, happy new year to all, and long live the Combo Club!!!

I've read through this thread and an varying opinions over time. Do B-15s count as a combo? (I do wheel mine and carry it with the head folded in)... I have a b-15r and also have one of the super rare ampeg b-15e extension cabs (only 97 were made) View attachment 4524182 View attachment 4524182

I am more used to beink Borees or Natasha, but we weell make thees work, no matter how many moose and squirrels get in way!
And that is likely all of that accent you’ll hear from this guy, despite his deep love of The Bullwinkle Show (home of the Original Rocket).
Back to your regularly scheduled combosity.
Sure looks like one to me!
