Gonna be an interesting next few nights. Tonight(Tuesday):Concert band. Ibanez AGB-200>Bassman 25; Tomorrow night: mini concert @ assisted living place. Ibanez or Thunderbird(edit: EB-0?)>R40. (Nothing Thursday). Friday night: regular rock/c+w/standards band @ American Legion(PSL, FL). 1967 THUNDERBIRD>R100 w/ 1939 Martin Tenor Sax>R40 and 70s era flute into my regular vocal mic.
EDIT: to be clear, I play sax and flute in addition to(not simultaneously*)bass.
*or at the same time:smug:
Now, if I had a short broom and a jar of Vaseline, I could sweep the stage too.:whistle:

Of very little significance, I've decided on EB-0>R40 for tonight, partially based on ease of transport.

And with an R40, or R100. Combo.

There's this thing about having enough SPL for any gig situation. The usual interpretation of that maxim is "as much loud as I can get for my spacebucks". When I can hear myself, and everyone can hear me (and assuming we are listening to each other), and a R40 is doing the job ... put me in line for an R40 ( or a Rocket cause Peg and I are friendly ;) )

Of course loud enough is an interesting and vague idea. I turned up my amp loud this afternoon. Not really loud just short of noon on the master (Hartke 300) with the gain all the way up but I was also using my High Priestess Fuzz pedal which is pretty high gain. Playing a short simple rhythm along with Underworld I enjoyed feeling the sound pulse through my body which begs the question is bass really meant to be a live instrument? A lot of discussion on tone here seems to focus on achieving a deep, well Rumble (pun intended)

If the drummer can hear me, we're all good, IME.

The PJB BG-400 does surprisingly well for what it is. Kind or more or less, if you squint a little bit and hold your breath, the BG-400 and C4 is a 500 watt 210. Sort of. It is and it ain't.

It's a scary piece of kit to show up with, IMO. We know this bit. Bass players look at other bass players on stage, and they pay attention. A PJB is something they ain't never see or heard before. Scary because when I show up with that, I better have some minimal ability to play :unsure:

Thing is, it's hard to leave the stage and not get talked at. :cautious:

Sorry, I'm one of those idiots who often talks with the bass players after they leave the stage. Normally to tell them how well they did, and maybe to ask a question or two.

There are other layers to be considered that aren't present when a guy bass player is talking to a guy bass player at set break. ;)

Basically I am in love with this amp...

It's louder than I had expected, in a good way too. I wouldn't really consider using it live, I'm sure it would handle a small coffe shop style gig but that's not what this amps about. Even clean it has an aggressive sound if that's possible. It sounds like what I would expect from an Orange bass amp.

The distortion is pretty sweet, the blend controls allows you to and in as much as you want. I mostly like a little dirt added in but it is fun to crank it up the gain knob to the point of sounding obnoxious. I wonder what the "blend footswitch" looks like, it's not included and I never seen one.

The tuner works as expected and it is pretty handy to have it onboard. I haven't tried the headphone/Aux in but I didn't buy it for that.

Honestly I didn't a reason to buy it but the video I saw of Glenn using it was enough for me. The purple color sealed the deal. For $300 bucks it's hard to go wrong.

I haven't tried out the original Orange Crush 50 watt combo, I would like to A/B them...

I have one coming from Chicago Music Exchange soon!!!! I think they are the same as the Orange or black Crush Bass 50 except the purple tolex. And the plaque of authenticity :cool:. Any single foot switch should engage the “blend” circuit to add hair on demand! :bassist::bassist::bassist:

I always tell them they were very muddy and indistinct and that they need to lower the freqs from 100 to 500hz and boost the mids. Even if they were clanking rounds on a Stingray thru a totally clean Hartke. :thumbsdown:

"What we have is the original song minus bass. You should still be able to hear everything from their recording, especially Grace's vocals. I added bass guitar. iagtrpyr's better half added some sweet backing vocals which enhance without taking over, and he added the cajon (center stage with the bass), percussion, and electric guitar (both channels) all through Reaper. Here it is converted from .wav to .mp3...
