The Combo Club

I'm not planning to list the Kasino any time soon, esp. on CL. I'm not about to deal with scammers(again). Once was more than enuff.
Or young'ns who blow it up at which point it would go to the curb.
The JC would do. I've never seriously looked at one for 2 reasons: 1) It's a larger body than my Ibanez AGB200, and, B) in all the demos I've seen/heard, I didn't like its tone(s).
Tweetchie zone.
Prolly have better luck listing the Tower of Power on the TB classifieds rather than CL. Higher class of scoundrels here.

So here's a song we did earlier this week, Monday I believe. It's in Jackie's wheelhouse as far as I'm concerned as I always felt she could channel Karen Carpenter's tone as long as I've known her. She does a mean Chewbacca too, but I digress. She sang lead, we did backing vocals together, and I played the Cajon. I wasn't gonna improve Joe Osborn on bass and left his in out of respect. I'm still working on mixing volumes so they work together so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks for listening!

OOOOO Very Nice!
Needs more bass.
;)

Other than as my "practice" amp, it's not being used. Might hafta wind up in a landfill if I move. Nobody wants heavy [stuff] unless it's a 'brand' name. Same for my passive P____ PA gear. GC won't even take it.
Man, if I lived closer, I'd have me a new practice amp. But I just don't have the bandwidth for a trip to South Florida right now. Otherwise, I'd do it and hang on the beach a couple of days. I miss Florida!

SR, we just remastered yesterday's Annies' Song. I brought down the bass and Cajon (very sad), but we agreed it was a tad too heavy. We also, after careful re-listening, bumped her backing vocals up and the lead slightly, so if these guys scream, "There's too much voice!" I'm blaming you for it! Also, toned down the instrumentation but Jackie would not allow me to put a limiter on the instrumental part. She loves her violins.

Honestly, I do think it's a better rendering compared to yesterday's version. Thanks for your input, as always.

Here it is...thanks again, everyone, for chiming in!

Thanks kindly, RR! Ah yes, as I'm learning this engineering craft, I'm finding it quite subjective to one's ears, and I can totally see and respect that. The funny thing is I had more bass guitar and Cajon in the original mix, but then was persuaded (and I think rightly so) to lower both tracks a bit so as not to overdo the vocals. I'm getting to the point where I'll put one of these blasted things together only to wait for another set of ears to tell me it's too much this way or not enough that way. But as I always say to SR, I want to listen to others' thoughts so as to learn from them. Again, thanks for your opinion, glad you liked it! :)

And thank you, Miles, for your positive comment! We're having a lot of fun making these tunes and appreciate everyone who listens and comments. I still have a lot to learn about improving the sound, but what's great is I have people interested enough to encourage and even help out with a little playing.

The idea of finding some originals, which came to me from some astute guy out west, is an intriguing possibility. We may even give it a go ourselves, though it'd be great to have either a keyboard player or an actual guitar player to assist. Maybe something will this summer. Thanks again, Miles! :)

Late night and heading to bed, but I wanted to let anyone who's interested know that there's a little red breadbox that just hit the classifieds for a fair price. If you've been wanting a PJB, this is your chance. RR, maybe you'd like a pair to double your color choices when the mood strikes!

A Most. Choice. Combo. for some lucky bassist!

Unplugged the bass from the combo and plugged into the Elf on St. Patrick's Day for what I trust are obvious reasons :smug:

No gigs this weekend(one 86'ed-COVID). Rumbles get a rest. Might fire up "the practice amp".

My combo lovers! Spring has officially begun! If you feel like drooling over some beautiful basses I have just the thing for you. During Winter, a bunch of talkbassers kept themselves from mischief by building basses. This week all TalkBass can vote for their favourites.

You can even vote for me! :hyper: Just kidding, please vote the ones you like best. There are three categories, and you can vote in each. Here's the category that I participated in:
Winter Build Off 2022 Voting - Partial Build

And here are the other two categories:
Winter Build Off 2022 Voting - Scratch Build

Winter Build Off 2022 Voting - Assembly Build

Fwiw, here's the state of the Hartke 1155 combo I've been into restoring... Found the head for it locally, and unwisely bought it! It's in excellent shape apparently. The combo needs the mid driver and crossover now...
This old thing sounds really nice pushed by my modded Hamer (w/Ric p'ups and guts)... It's got a clean, warm, friendly, deep 'bounce' to it. Really a fun sound, and I'm getting along with it nicely.
I'm starting to think maybe this old Hartke stuff is my go-to...

Nah. You need a "Kasino model 252". This one:
