Morrighan, you could not be more honest about the Fender cable...you have to be able to dead lift 500 lbs in order to use that with any regularity. I do like it overall, though I find it darkens my tone a bit but it's too dang heavy for normal use. either that or I'm just getting old...

Does anyone notice how the CC is currently under a Hofner invasion? I kinda like it...
Looks like the Double Four combo will finally get to be tested against a full-sized acoustic guitar and perhaps mandolin in 2 weeks. A coworker who plays those instruments (and probably bass too) is interested in coming over for a jam. The planned bass setup:

Thank you very much, SR, it's deeply appreciated! 'Tis true, folks, I crossed the finish line in style on Friday. It was quite an emotional day, but the highlight was my bass tone on "Count on Me," the talent show's finale. Though I'm an Ampeg fanboy, the Orange Terror Bass/Fender Rumble 115 rig captured the best of Leo's intent with a full-bodied tone that admittedly doesn't sound that great in my studio room, but came alive with a little juice behind it, providing plenty of bottom throughout the gymnasium. Honestly, I could've sat there all day thumping out roots and fifths and skipped the rest of the day's events. There may be a video if I can download it from one of the teachers who recorded it.
Other than cleaning up my room, turning in things, and working on the curriculum with my heir apparent, I'll be as unemployed as the rest of you GOFs by mid-June. Then it's official. Thanks again, Soul Reflection!

After 32 years of front bars and beer gardens, the last 8 years have been beyond my wildest dreams. Touring UK, EU, New Zealand and Australia has been humbling. It and made me realise that plodding in the direction of our goals (except for prioritising family) is the the most satisfying journey we can experience in life.

And here's the newest addition to the family in its just-born stage. Now to get to making Iago moifications such as unloading that plastic pickguard and installing straploks due to its immense weight.

Great looking bass you have there. Love the darker burst over the Rogue but, let's hear about the sound and what strings you may upgrade to. My thinking is LB Beatle Flats. They did wonders to my Rogue

Seriously, this was the last post in the CC almost a week ago? What'sevryone on vacation? Where's Miles? He should know about such a travesty as this. We're stuck on P. 5 people...no new combos bought this week? Now you're gonna make me have to buy one just to get things going again.
Until that happens, I wanted to announce to everyone that I am Officially retired as of Thursday. It was my last day being paid by the district, so anytime I go out this summer it's out of the goodness of my heart, and I do plan on being out there in August helping my young protege. With that, it feels great knowing my days of conferences, correcting pages of homework, and having to put up with meetings are behind me.
Okay, done talking about that forever. I'm just a guy who loves playing stringed instruments and buying amps. Here are my two beauties, side-by-side for all the world to see. I'm also done playing full-scale basses as these short scales are more in tune with my playing style and 61-year, 355-day-old hands. Done talking about that forever too. This retirement thing is powerful, man! Attached below are the two together. Just different enough to offer a choice of tone and feel.
The video my buddy SR was talking about is the last song #2 and I recorded entitled, "The Ripper," by Judas Priest. I play electric guitar over it and my wife, Jackie, sings as usual. We did the video because it was my agreement to do a heavy metal song. She camped it up pretty well and got me in the act too. It's our announcement to the world that our second life has begun! I'll post it this weekend. Souly was maybe gonna do some post-work on it and I'd rather upload that one. Be looking for it though in the coming days.
That's it from me. The combo-in-use right now is my Rocket Bass, but I'll be moving to my tube rig as soon as our "Give Me One Reason" experiment begins later this month. Anyone who wishes to jump into this venture with Soul Reflection and me let me know and I'll explain the parameters to ya. It's gonna be fun!

Darned good question, Oh retired one. Possibly working. Or riding his bike. Finally back to work on a sequel to his Dragon Lord Chronicles series. Possibly ... just possibly ... practicing one of his Thunderbirds through a combo. If anyone sees him, they should ask. From a safe distance, of course. I don't know if percussionists spontaneously combust like drummers, but why take chances?

Your comment about scale length of basses has me worried that I only have about 5 years to play my long-scale instruments?? But my most recent purchase was a 35" scale 5 string!
As far as what I've been up to, well, today I got to have my first jam session with guitar/bass/mandolin player Troy! Originally we hoped a drummer would join too, but he was not available. I played Shorty, Woody, and Trav, with the two basses going through my PJB Double Four combo! Troy brought his acoustic 12 string Breedlove. He complimented the power, sound, and tiny size of the D4, and he played Shorty through it when I played guitar for a bit. Echo is in the amp picture for scale. He thinks he's a panther, but he's only 14 pounds.
The Double Four sounds great with acoustic guitars. I am still just delighted with this little combo. Still hoping they bring out a Quad Four some day.

Oops. I've been gigging almost every weekend. Remembered to post in Thunderbird and Rumble Clubs, but sorta(OK, actually)forgot here, especially 'cos there's a lotta overlap.
So. Gigs 4/20 and 21: EB-0>R40. Used the Epi EB-0 'cos of band space[lack thereof]considerations.
4/27 and 28:TBird>R100. Bigger rooms, more space.
4/30: afternoon CC BBQ(outside). EB-0(heat/humidity)>R100.
4/31:concert band rehearsal. Ibanez AGB200>Bassman 25. I'm the "string bass" player. I don't play UB; this combination approximates that sound.
5/3-4: Nada. Nada dang thing(one gig cancelled).
5/7: concert band rehearsal. Ibby>B25
5/10: gig-TBird>R100. American Legion, PSL,FL.
5/11: gig(restaurant/lounge)-EB-0>R40. Space.
All combos, all the time.
