So it's NAD for the club secretary today. Wow, this has been a banner bass day! The story is, and I'm sticking to it, was that my son (fellow bass player) and i went down to our Davenport GC last week to browse, and I finally got a chance to run through the Rumble Studio 40. A nice amp that i contemplated buying to replace my old Bronco 40, but my goal was to have something with a little more pop for medium gigs. My Portaflex rig is still my bread 'n butter, and my Micromark 801 sits nicely for quiet practice. So what to do? I wanted lightweight, but full-sounding. So lo and behold, right next to the Studio 40 was a Rumble 100 combo.
Now it's no secret that I previously owned a 500 head and 115 cab, but found it lacking the kind of mids that I'm accustomed to. Too muddy for my ears, but to each his or her own. Fast forward to last Wednesday and the Rumble 100. To my ears, a definite relative of the Rumbles, but the 12" driver seemed less tubby, and so the two of us played on it for a bit. My kid thought it sounded good too and for $300 how can you go wrong? The features are nice and the build quality is right up there as well. So I hooked the 100 up a bit ago, dialed up a tone I liked (very easily too), and liked it very much. I'm still running bass and low mids down, but it's a tone that says Fender and it's more what i hoped I could've gotten out of the larger rig. Here's a couple of pics to prove the day happened!
