The Combo Club

Hello folks, even though I'm beyond exhausted and ready to drop for seven hours, I had to stop by my favorite digs for a nightcap. Giff, it's nice to see you've made it consecutive days now. I've still got Ghost in my prayers, and I'm wondering when Bigs is gonna challenge M to a Battle of the Low Note!

Me, I just finished one of the roughest weeks all year and it was only four days! I enjoyed my first evening not correcting essays in almost a week and wrapped up Family Day today with about a good 25-30 guests in the classroom along with the kidlings. We had a lot of fun though with a rocks/minerals scavenger hunt as the highlight. I wished them all well as they left and the staff could begin our overdue four-day break. If I had to go to one more meeting...

On a really neat note, our school district is looking to host a one-week summer camp for those interested in doing projects led by our teachers. The coordinator of this extended-learning project asked for ideas and I submitted "Summer Rock Band." I ripped off School of Rock and will offer to up to a half-dozen students (middle and high school, I believe) the opportunity to play their instruments (guitar, bass, and drums) in a band-like environment. By the end of the week, we'll play a few songs that were worked on and maybe record them for posterity.

The coordinator seemed really excited about this session and will let me know after they lock down some dates; possibly the third week of June. The coolest thing, besides playing AC DC with former students, is I'll earn a $500 stipend. Gee, should I save it or spend it? Already told Mrs. Fearless Leader that if those in charge accept my idea I'll have to pick up a guitar in case someone needs a lesson or two. Not my strongest instrument, but a new Strat and combo in the man cave this summer might be just the ticket. I'm not thinking about it right now though, I'm just content being on Talkbass without having to read an intro or conclusion.

'Night Club!

Funny you should mention me being able to make it here most of this week. Coming home yesterday from shopping noticed the electricity truck on side of the main road adjoining our street, and thought to myself..oh oh. Got home and power was on but all the clocks were flashing and my computers were off, so they had shutdown power to the whole suburb to do something..at least another few thousand people were "powerless" besides me this time...if only for a few hours lol. Baring any problems I should be here every day now so you will just have to put up with your little Aussie Kidling's cheeky mannerisms for some time yet Mike lolll

Hmm...new logo for the 20189 club t-shirt, perhaps? Who's our merchandiser? Doggie, whip up something on yer computer, would ya? Let's make it colorful. Thankee!

We have a funny show on public radio in Canada called 'This is That' . Anyway, their news stories are fake but people often get confused and think they are real because they make them close to real and act as though they are real. They did one story that claimed that in Australia 'Canadian' is used to call someone an idiot. It was hilarious.

Paid for and ‘in the mail’...

...right at half the price of a new one... up to this point, it’s spent its life in England.

Camping trips, pickin’ ‘round the fire...

I’ll pair it up with my li’l Cort ABG...we refer to is as the ‘Moab Bass’.
We found it in a pawn shop in Moab, UT.

Coolie doodles!

My band started recording some rough demos today for our upcoming album. I decided to bring out the Peavey TNT 150 and matching Peavey drum kit that I scored to leave at our rehearsal spot. WOW is all I have to say. The TNT blew me away for an old 80s amp that I scored for 25 bucks haha. Very punchy and full and I got some killer bass tracks laid down with it!

PS my singer is obsessed with Nirvana

While not a Veteran, I am a veteran of many, Many Saturday nights at the Veterans Of Foreign Wars dance hall...and as such, the
Peavey TNT 150 gets my heartfelt endorsement!

Those things were driving
Merle Haggard and
Hank Williams songs in every small town in America for decades!

Doesn’t matter the genre, the TNT shows up to work, Every night.

Spoken for truth.

Unclear, though, who holds the patent on the gravity amplifier that came with every one. Looks heavy, you go first.

Yeah, I'm in the midst of marking final exams myself. Got called away from work, though, as my 3 year has leaky eyes. He should be okay. We bought a kite today and he loved it. Tomorrow I jam and next week I continue with exams. Good news is that I have a conference at the beginning of June and I'm done at the end of June. Got some publications to work on for the summer plus defreting a Chinese Hofner. Full steam ahead!

Always a good time at this doctor's office, but it's probably a good idea to avoid the rubber glove exams just the same...

I'd like to take this time before I withdraw to my slumber chamber to wish Christians around the world a happy Easter! May the dominant species on this rock finally get it all together to improve its living conditions for all, instill hope and optimism back into those who have chosen cynicism as their daily mantra, and spread the joy of music to all corners. I do believe it's the universal language we can still use to communicate with.

That, plus I'm looking for an amp dedicated to my new bass. The hollow-body needs its own vehicle. Any ideas out there? I'm thinking smallish combo that is open and accurate enough to show off the woody pedigree of this Hofner copy. Doc, you're our German guitar expert, what are your thoughts?

So please stop in today and post up something to making this day special. Happy Easter! :woot:
