Hey @loopee, as a fellow (oops, it's contagious)...as other Canadian (all be it misplaced), welcome to the club!

Soul Reflection, I heartily agree with that welcoming! Say, how’s the Rogue doing after this first week? Have you had any time to set the bass up and give it a spin?

I haven’t forgotten you either. Used the Ampeg last night, playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps” along with this YouTube sensation on acoustic guitar. What’s nice is she plays it the same way as the originals and with a touch of bass, sounds fantastic. I plan on making some recordings next weekend which will be a three-day extravaganza!

I hear ya. Old Arty Rightis has made home in my left thumb and had to be regularly pulled to loosen it up. But a guy has to have his anchor, right?

Speaking of, I just bought a Fender thumb rest so I can use the inbetween-space of my violin bass’ humbuckers. I haven’t added it yet, but here’s a pic of what it may look like. Doc, thoughts?

That could work. I rest my thumb on the front pickup, but I know that doesn't work for everyone. i know that some have made a thumb rest by attaching a bar to both pickup mounts. That way the integrity of the bass is not impacted. The picture you posted seems to display that a thumb rest can be attached without any issues.

I do. That was a photo I found on the WickedWeb after searching for a thumb rest on a Beatle bass. Still deciding if I want to drill two holes in ma baby!

Sunday was the outdoor open mic/jam at Stuart Harley Davidson. My BIL shot some videos with his phone. For some reason, I come through loud, yet I can barely hear myself for the guitars as we're playing. And, yes, I'm wearing a "Vespa" T-shirt. Unfortunately I'm getting an error message that the files are too large. Will try again later-maybe.

Depends on your definition of “issues.” A couple of pilot holes and a deft screwdriver shouldn’t hurt much. The bass, that is. Me? I’ll be a wreck.

Yeah, I anchor in the neck pickup as well, but on some songs it can be pretty dark. It lightens up a bit if I reposition my thumb to the west. I dunno yet.

I originally gigged with combos, first a Roland then an Ashdown 500 with a 15. Really loved that Ashdown. Should not have sold it. Always considered going back to a combo as it's just easier for me to deal with. But Talkbass indicated this was a catastrophic mistake, what could I be thinking? After many years of seperates I picked up a Markbass CMD151P Jeff Berlin. I like the Little Mark amps, I don't like tweeters and I find a single 15" speaker with a decent amp covers most of my needs. Musicians Friend had a great sale on this combo last month after I liquidated a bunch of gear. So I picked one up.

Had it a month, played at low volume gig and after this past saturday one loud gig. It sounds great and will work for me. I will eventually get the match additional 15 cab but likely won't need much at all. This combo also has a perfect spot to keep my high pass filter in the effects loop and out of the way.

This little box really checks all the... boxes for me. I've had some really great amps. But this guy and a bass is a super easy load in and just sounds great.

The combo below isn't mine (just for reference) but the pic with the HPF is.

I understand the logic of separates. It's worked well for me. I also understand the logic of combos. Having started with combo's and missing them for years I finally caved into what I really wanted all along. Had a progressively louder gig Saturday in a not so great room and had no problems. So I really don't see any issue other than I have one less thing to carry. If this rig worked with these fine but loud players it should work for 90% of what I do. I wasn't even really pushing the rig hard.

Thumbing your nose at other peoples gear is the mark of a fool. That said, being gear obsessed, I always observe but as long as it works for you and sounds good to the audience who gives a bubbly fart? We have other bass arguments to contend with.

+1 for the Ashdown! I gig with an EVOII 2x10 & love it! Throw an extension cab underneath when/if needed.

Yeah man. The EVOII 115 is what I rocked for well over a year. It just always sounded great. A bit of a hoss but a great sounding one.

Yes, but that's why I only spent $285 on mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spent it's entire life in a home studio, so it's in really great condition. Local GC was selling it & must have thought it was a Rootmaster series or something. I didn't tell them it wasn't...not sorry!

I love that the buying public seems to be moving toward neo magnets & class D stuff. All the "old" stuff just keeps getting cheaper! Me, FTW!!
