The Combo Club

Just a thought, whatever you stain the rest of it, clear coat the top. A nice gloss would look great-IMO.
Yep GP..great idea..I belive I bought the clear coat gloss with the stain last year so hope it all is still viable and the air ahsnt got to any of it lol..I never opened any of the finishing stuff anyway so all should still be good. Thanks GP.

In my Navy days, we met some sailors offa HMS Hampshire at an EM Club in Hong Kong. They said they were gonna "get pissed" and we were like "you're planning to be mad at someone?". They looked at us like we were nuts, so explanations were in order-from both sides.
It is somewhat comforting to know that "El-Cheapo"means the same in Oz as it does here.

WHAT?? I need to check this out.
Hey iagtrplyr,
You probably already saw it, but there's a good deal on a used one on Reverb. I am trying to figure if I'm willing to take the plunge and buy before trying. If it goes to a member of this thread, and they post pics and review, I'll still be totally chuffed about it!

And that sounds like the start of a good drinking night!

OMG, this club is going crazy with all the wonderful posts just today. While I'd love to respond to all of them, #2 has me packing up the Christmas wares and securing them in a little room behind Command Central. So I'll give this a try and see if it works. Here goes...

Yes; yes; nope; I didn't know that; that's hilarious; count me in; no way; yes; uh-huh; and I didn't even think that was legal anymore!

Thank you and keep those fine posts a-coming. Actually, I have a few I'd like to answer so see ya in a minute.

"Yes, honey, I'm about done and am ready to vacuum the sparkles on the floor!"

Maybe your honey is actually referring to you..."Sparkles"
Actually my little blossom Charly calls me "Her Delicate Little Flower"..cheeky darn Nottinghamite...just because I have a bad back, post nasal drip and hemorrh..well enough said..I'll just say its been piles of fun so far.

I actually bought the bass used and previous owner had upgraded to the Fralins - so it came that way. I did add the LaBellas and to my ears, they were MADE for P!

I've not heard anything negative about the pups in Squier VM or CV models. Squiers are at such a great price point, folks enjoy modding them!

I'd really like to take the plunge, b, being I actually like what the P does more than my J, but that slightly wider neck has me concerned. I've messed around with wider necks (1.6") before and I don't enjoy playing them. Call me a weenie, but I'm a lot slower and my hand cramps up more as opposed to the Jazz's slightly narrower neck. Then stick in the short scale fretboard and I've become Mr. Lazy barely needing to stretch to reach about everything I need to for a song. I blame it on learning on an electric guitar before switching to bass. But I do think it's a plus to have one of those in your stable.

Recording is an area I'm also interested in for the new year. I have a mostly dead YouTube channel, and would like to start adding content to it.

Looking forward to hearing if you find anything, and I'll let you know if I turn up anything interesting!

Again, if you're like me you're a little daunted by this whole DIY recording thing. I want to get into it, but I'd rather buy gear even though I don't need it. Maybe an investment in a mini-recording studio would be smart, but then whoever said I was smart? I like your offer though and accept it. Take a look at Soundtrap if you already haven't. I'd like another opinion on it. The loops are cool enough, but I think there will be a learning curve,

Yup. I meant it in both ways. The meaning are the same in Canada. They were angry and I was drunk. View attachment 3650830

Sheesh, if looks could kill. Maybe it has something to do with the drunkenness and late hours. If that be true, then when did you move your mother in, Doc? Hey, when do you start back? I'm off this Friday for a fun day with adults, then on Monday, the brain trust shows up. I'm gonna guess not for another couple of weeks, right?

A whole-heartedly second GP's advice. While I'm not a large woodgrain person myself, I have to admit that spalted finish would look a lot better with a nice coat of something shiny on it. Who knows, Giff, that there fiddle might grow to be a fave of yours later on.

RR, already on the Reverb hunt, but right now I'm watching Ampeg PF-20T amps. Morrighan rekindled my deep desires for a companion to the Portaflex cab. The VOX head was okay but didn't check every box. The low-wattage tube amp would fit the bill perfectly and there's one for $399 right now from Chicago Music Exchange. I'm looking into my portfolio as I write this...

Amp or P bass???

That's gonna be stuck in my brain for the rest of the day...

Ok, off to work like the elf I am, but I'll be back!

If I were you and based upon your posts this am, I would recommend a P bass with a Jazz neck...play that through your Stage 800 for a true taste of Fender ;).
