You, my friend, are the true taste of Fender based on what I just read! So I’m not insane then? A Jazz neck just feels better to me, and I’ve read over the many moons that I’m not the only one either.

I had a really cheap SX P/J bass a couple of years ago they was heavy, terrible pickups, lousy electronics, and a P-style neck. To me, it was drudgery playing the darned thing. I couldn’t unload it fast enough, but it was my faint attempt to get a little of the P vibe.

Or I could just man up and get used to that wider neck. I really do like that sound in the mix. I could grab the bass, try it out and if tho ya don’t change I could swap it out for a thinner neck; maybe even for my Jazz’s neck! Interesting. Thanks SR!

Yeah, he gets real touchy about bedtime. It's his favorite time of the day.

We start back tomorrow and the kids come back on Monday. I have lots of new course preparation this term, so it's going to be a busy term. Yay?

I'll be there in spirit, my educational cohort. At least there's music to fill the evenings and/or weekends. Also, spring will be here in less than three months, summer in six. That's all I got...

Not a lot. Some of our venues are very tight on band space. I did use it at the nursing home yesterday as it's easier to schlep than the TBird. However, the neck profile is sufficiently different from the 'Bird that anything over that 1 hour "concert" hurts my left(yer right)hand. It felt OK when I tested one at GC, but that was for, maybe, 2 minutes. I don't 'hate' the sound[P pup only-don't like the J], but it'll never come up to the 'Bird.

Thanks, I'm not sure what it means to have a little Fearless Leader, but I'll take it as complimentary! I did notice that the one on Reverb is below 4 bills shipped, so I'm leaning that direction. Either way, I'll post about my experiences.

Yep, I've tried a few times: Tascam cassette unit, Paris software, dedicated studio, never with much success. What I'd like now is just an easy way to record music to a decent level and append the results to videos and files. I'll take a look at Soundtrap (probably tomorrow) and let you know what I think. There's always a learning curve, it's just a matter of how steep is it?

Keep your eyes on Reverb and Ebay - I see modded VM and CV P's with J necks every now and then - usually at great prices.

I found that the thicker neck as well as the fret spacing of full scale were just too much for my old, small hands. That is why I went with short scales. I would like to try a P with Jazz neck, but I would have to be playing a lot more.

There are some factory Fender P basses with Jazz necks as well as Fender PJ's out there. As you are a lefty, your choices may be limited. There is also the option of building your own P body and using your Jazz neck. If it doesn't work out for you, you could probably sell the loaded P body for what you paid.

^ this is how my Stingray bears headstock scars from cymbals.

Good karma on nursing home gigs. My BA108v2 Plus could conceivably see action in one if I'm sent to one for rehab. :unsure:

I have a Squier Jag SS and just love it. It is very comfortable to play, not just because its a short scale, but because it has a contoured body. It was well balanced, out of the box and the only thing I would change, if I played more, would be the P pickups as I do not use the J one. Too bad they have been discontinued but, they show up on the used market.

If you were interested in something like this, I would recommend this one because its MIM, has a contoured body and should have better pickups...lefty, IDK:

The Shop Down the Street (TM) has a [gently used] silver sparkly Squier Jaguar looking for a new home. But it's full scale. I pulled it down to try. Longer I consider it, the more I'm drawn to the Gretsch Junior Jet. <sigh> there's the Starfire, though, and White Falcon :: swoon ::
