The Combo Club

Here is the build so far Oh Fearless One..what no G string you ask..no E,A,D either yet loll
I have all the stain/paint etc but undecided what finish to put on it..lots of thought needed there yet lol Like I said before, I like the spalted maple look as it is, so maybe just a light stain on the back of the neck, headstock, sides and back may be the way to go..gotta think more on that as mentioned..to each their own loll
I know the control plate is popped in upside down and I took the pic before I realised, plus its not screwed on yet anyway till the colour is decided, so I know Doc..lol
Looks lovely sitting in front of the Rumble Rig.

Only realized how much I like a bound neck after playing one. And my Chowny CHB-1 has a first fret marker, which I also discovered I prefer very much. It makes the bass feel more "finished" to me.

Can see having fun with a headstock decal. Were I to take up a project like that, I'd choose something that makes no sense on a bass, like a 70s Raleigh decal

I chased a pic up of the Chowny to check it out Morri and I agree.. I like the first fret marker too.

Yep, I’m considering the 20-watter. It’s been on the short list in the past, but it’s also a chunk of change and needs my patience to save for it.

Check please.

It’d go great with the portaflex cab though.

It's the EQ on the PF-50T that holds my attention. If I understand the threads on the PF-xxT properly, the transformer out line means line level signal from the tubes for both the amp and preamp can be used to drive any SS amp.

Love the look of the PF series cabs. My personal inclination would be for the 15. For "old times" sake.

Hey, are the pups that subpar they need to be changed or were you just in the mood one day?
I actually bought the bass used and previous owner had upgraded to the Fralins - so it came that way. I did add the LaBellas and to my ears, they were MADE for P!

I've not heard anything negative about the pups in Squier VM or CV models. Squiers are at such a great price point, folks enjoy modding them!

3) High-tech continues to make it even easier for DIY recording at home. I want something easy enough for me to record a tune and make it web-accessible in no time. Maybe it already exists and I need to get out there and look. Right now I'm trying out the free version of Soundtrap. It's pretty cool but is gonna take me some time to mess with.

Happy New Year, everyone!
Recording is an area I'm also interested in for the new year. I have a mostly dead YouTube channel, and would like to start adding content to it.

Looking forward to hearing if you find anything, and I'll let you know if I turn up anything interesting!

Yeah, I modded my VM Jag SS like crazy. OK, I put on flats, an ashtray, and a custom thumb rest.

on topic, a few years ago on the 4th of July, or rather on the 5th, I awoke to go to work, walked out the back door, and saw the glass from my patio table smashed to bits. no time, told the wife to steer clear and I'd clean it up that evening. came home, sweeping up, found a slug! tried to convince myself that it was maybe the tip of some sort of firework, but I knew better. I coulda easily been sitting around that table with friends and fam had I been hosting some sort of 4th get together! according to the cops, most likely came from a local bar about a block and a half away, happens often enough over there they say. The Highland Hideaway, didn't surprise me, the place has a rep for sure. and we are in a nice neighborhood, Shadyside in Pittsburgh!

The idiots who fire into the air kinda forget about that "what goes up...." thing.

Now Doc...In Australia that would mean you and your cats are drunk...lol..what you been drinking Doc...catnip sherry?
Now if you had said pissed-off that would be Aussie for angry and upset..sooo either you and your cats got drunk over new year celebrations..hic..or you tripped over one of the cats and you all got upset about it lollll I'm still undecided lol

Yup. I meant it in both ways. The meaning are the same in Canada. They were angry and I was drunk.

In my Navy days, we met some sailors offa HMS Hampshire at an EM Club in Hong Kong. They said they were gonna "get pissed" and we were like "you're planning to be mad at someone?". They looked at us like we were nuts, so explanations were in order-from both sides.

My El-Cheapo kit form DIY Pitbull Hofner Style bass (Aussie company - Chinese supplied parts) was approx $150USD in 2018 when I bought it with all parts supplied loll As our Fearless Leader said..Giff get busy and finish making it for your wife loll
Its actually a basswood body with a spalted maple veneer top, which I actually like the look of unstained (see pic) but I dont have high expectations for the sound once I have completed the build...who knows though..I may be surprised lol Not affiliated btw with Pitbull Guitar builds...just gotta find time in 2020 to finish the build and see what It sounds like. My wife Charly will be happy when she finally gets to play it...shes waited nearly 3 years now for it. Note that the pointed head design is opposite to the real Hofner basses (except for the real Hofner left handed neck) and the transfers/logos that are supplied are called Pit Bull lolll
The kit is more like a left hand crafted neck on a right handed body shape loll..I suppose Doc I may have a few comments loll

Just a thought, whatever you stain the rest of it, clear coat the top. A nice gloss would look great-IMO.
