The Combo Club

Nolo means I concede; e.g. do not contest established precedent. Elf + Doubleshot is not a combo. Combo-ish, but not a combo. And just unplugged my cable from the Elf and plugged into the BA108v2 Plus.

Further point of order! Nobody in the free world can tell you what, or what not, to plug into in the privacy of your own practice space! I speak as a potential, but not necessarily admitted, combo heretic myself.

Maybe there is a compromise here...
Make the separates into a combo.

FWIW: I am not a 100% sure, but I think this is an Orange OB1-300 Combo. :woot:

Wait a minnit there, is that a piggyback? So, technically, um, it possesses aspects of combo-isity.

And SR, if Fender made a left-handed Mustang that most likely would be THE bass for me. I love the P-tone but enjoy playing short-scale basses too. Unfortunately, they don't or I at least can't find one. I have my eye on a Player Precision in tidepool, but want to know more about their necks before deciding. I've been reading more on the bass forum to see if it's a simple transition from the Jazz to the P or not. My journey continues...

I keep forgetting about your strange handed-ness:D! I have found the differences and discussions on Fender necks to be very confusing. I wish there was a simple explanation. I might be prepared to go with a 34"er if I could get my head around the differences in necks.

M, I support you, but there are those who have poo-poo'd the idea of including separates in the club and I can understand their point. I made a rash decision last year adding the B-15, but because of it being an icon I felt like it was defendable. What if we couldn't see the Elf as in, hidden from view? Would the Doubleshot allow you to place the head somewhere behind it, perhaps? If so, then a combo it would definitely be. Thoughts, Combo Club?

A combo is a combo...

 ('til I'd hafta move it)

It's got casters on the cab, so it's quite easily moved around the practice space. But for playing out, while the head weighs a couple pounds less than my Rumble Studio 40, it is a bit bulky & cumbersome compared to it's brother Rumble 500 combo. (Plus, I admit to "babying" it for its retro good looks.)

Hmmm, well, certainly doesn't adhere to the spirit of "the exception", nor even the letter thereof, since it's not really "a one-piece integrally-designed unit".

But, I agree, Poli, it could be a Orange OB-1, but with an aftermarket faceplate rearranging the controls and losing a knob! But, could be.

Well, whatever combosity the hardware attaching my Bassman head to its cab imbues (which I do not claim, at all), though I do believe it does pass the "one-piece integrally-designed unit" test, it, too, still fails the aforementioned final point of "the exception".

Hmmm, I thought like you, iago, until I googled it. They do exist! But, if they were only made in the '60s & '70s, then they may cost quite the pretty penny.

Pickin' her battles. But, be on the lookout when she sounds the charge! ;)

Thank you, my partner in crime. I looked over the Google page and found the oldies on Pinterest to be very cool as well as the out-of-stock Reverb models. I love the way we all jump in to help out a fellow player. We’re one big self-quarantined family!

I’ll be listening for the trumpet.

That’s right, use a little Latin to confuse the troops. Also, I’m guessing the first sound that passed between your lips after the Ampeg BA108 v2 was flipped on was, “Ahh...!”

Ya know, if you want my opinion (and I’ve said this before), I think your beautiful Fender rig could qualify much the same way as I feel the B-15 does. I believe you replied, no, but who’d argue? Okay, hundreds of people, but that’s besides the point.

Here we go again, but I vote “yes” for this sweet-looking unit to be considered a combo. Not in the traditional way we have always defined them, but it’s a systemic design where each piece creates an interesting whole. Let me get my flame-retardant suit on...

Good one, Soul Reflection! For me, it’s not getting my head around the neck, but my right hand around the traditional Precision neck!

... ... I have counted Fliptop amps, much to the chagrin of other members I'm sure because I see it as a one-piece integrally-designed unit. So what's the difference between that and any other head/cab rig? They're not Ampeg Fliptops ... ...

Yeah but, as you may have noticed, "it's not an Ampeg"!

Who has the newer Vox Superbeatle combo? I need a newer flavor to pick from at the household

No you goofballs this one

Hey, iago, why don't you admit you have the Vox Mini SuperBeetle and tell him all about it, huh? I didn't really shame you on it all that bad, did I? I mean, if it had anything, other than cosmetics, to offer over the li'l foxy Voxy VX50BA, then I'd be all over it, myself*. ;)

Seriously, @redstrand, that's my bottom line, it's a VX50BA (which I love, dearly!) dressed up in SuperBeatle cloths, which is a very nice touch, but not quite enough for the extra cost to me. If I didn't already have the VX50BA, and didn't need the lower weigh of it (which I medically did when I bought it), I'd be extremely tempted to go for it. Soundwise, assuming it's at least comparable to the VX50BA, I'd consider it a very useful practice/jam/small gig amp. HTH.

*Edited To Add: OK, maybe I dinged the bass Mini SuperBeetle a little too hard for being less than the guitar Mini SuperBeetle with bigger speaker and extension cab capability. But, come on Vox, don't you know bass needs more amplification than guitar? Sheesh! o_O
