You are very welcome ‘Dog! I’m in the same boat as you, but opposite. Had I not heard the Superbeetle, the Combo would be more than enough. And yes, there is a weight difference which I definitely know your back prefers. The weight of the combo is criminally insane. It’s all good!

The specs, interestingly, look to be the same, but I’m wagering the P’s is maybe a little thicker. This is when I’d love it if GC was open to see if they gave even a righty to feel.
I love my 2004 P-bass Special, with the Jazz neck and PJ pups. It's everything I've ever dreamed of.

When I wanted to pick up a lefty Fender P-bass, I kept going back and forth between an MIA and a MIM model. I called Fender Customer Service and asked them why they hated lefties because we do not a have wide range of choices. The rep said it is based on demand and there not just that many lefties to justify more choices. He said he played bass and had several MIM that he liked. He said the main difference is more expensive hardware. I also know the overall quality of a MIA is more consistent.
So I decided on getting a MIM. It came down to the Tidepool with Maple FB or the 3-Tone Sunburst with Pau Ferro FB. It was a coin toss. I found a used 2018 3-Tone Sunburst used in Mint condition on Reverb. Turns out it was an open box, not a demo or return. Perfect condition with all of the plastic wrap still on it. $529 (including shipping). It plays like butter and I can get the action nice and low. The only thing I did was put LaBella flatwounds on it. I will say that the Tidepool with the maple neck looks awfully nice too.

PT, you are ma long lost brotha! Some year we’re both bored we’re gonna start up a forum club called “Everything Lefty.” I’m reading your post and you’re talking about me in spirit.
My MIM Jazz had been gently modded with a heavier, vintage bridge and flats, but nothing else really needs to be done. Hum is at a minimum even when the controls are separated, and it’s a fabulous instrument.
I’d like something different on the New vas’s compared to the current ones, currently both sunburst finishes. You gave two very nice-looking basses, particularly being correctly-designed!
My son has your Squier too, though his Schecter fiver gets the lions share of play right now.

That scpb bridge cover looks spectacular on your bass. The whole bass looks good, but I don't think I've ever seen the early cover on a split-P body. The colors are fantastic too. Beautiful bass.

Saw that one, Doc. Oh, the temptations from the tempters . How can one man handle the stress, the strain? It’s probsbly down to those two makers. The price is excellent on those Hofners, but I am concerned the Ignition is going to sound virtually the same as my Rogue. Do I want two basses with similar tone?

Yeah, I cannot day definitively that the Hofner and Rogue will sound different. I can say that I have not been disappointed with any of the Hofners I have bought and I have bought one from that seller.

Doc, do you have an Ignition or Icon in your harem? I know you got 500/1(s), but wondered if you had their lower level model? If so, how’s it compare to the German basses?

El, are you thinking of this as the early SCPB bridge cover? It's open on top and bottom so you can change the strings without taking it off, which I really wanted.

I have two Ignitions, two Germans and one HCT. Both of my Ignitions are great! I love the tone I get from both of them. They are not as good as my German ones, but they definitely punch above their weight. I sanded one down too no finish. I may be willing to send you that one if you are willing to pay the shipping. You could then finish it as you want. I bought a second Ignition so I could make one fretless. I then realized that I have no hollow bodies that have the cavern spacing. I am also thinking of getting my self a divorce bass. I can't afford German one so I think I'll grab an Ignitionwith the Cavern spacing. I can't justify having 3 Ignitions, so I'd be willing to send this one to you. It's right handed, but you could likely change it and fix it up. Let me know.
Yes. I believe the originals had a built-in mute, and the mute was "on" or "off" depending on which way the cover was turned. The early basses were also string-through-the-body, so changing strings would require removal of the bridge cover. Here's a pic of a '52.
The pickup cover had a ground wire. Don't know how much good it did.
