The Combo Club

I sure would like to read a report from you on how that PJB 77 feels to play. It’s on my short list for my next purchase.

Based on my experience with a Phil Jones Cab 27, I'd say the Session 77 is a blast to play. Pleasantly punchy, articulate, full-bodied.

@StatesideRambler
The above is pretty much it in a nutshell. It’s not too loud, but I have no issues in my suspended church gig hearing myself with an amplified acoustic guitarist, piano, 1-2 vocalists, and on occasion, polite percussion. The line out sends an excellent signal to the board.

And the same qualities translate to non-bass purposes. I’ve used it as a monitor on several occasions with my laptop and phone for movies, Zoom conferences, and now, online lessons for my 4 kids. It has an advertised range of 30Hz-20KHz, and that upper number is achieved without hiss or harsh treble. Guitar sounds great through it, and I imagine so would keys.

The tone knobs have quite a bit of cut/boost. The speakers will fart a little with the bass cranked beyond 3:00, but I’ve found this much of a twist completely unnecessary. You can otherwise turn the volume all the way up and it delivers without excess noise, at least with my passive instruments. But I wouldn’t hook up lots of pedals to add a bunch of extra gain as this would probably push it beyond its limits. Speaking of knobs, they feel high-quality, as does everything else on the amp. I don’t like the rat fur on the top and backside, but it’s an insignificant gripe.

For practice, it’s perfect. The aux input and headphone jacks give a balanced, honest reproduction, and though not sterile, every mistake I make is there to keep me honest.

I got this one from GC in Memphis 2-3 months ago used and in excellent condition for $299. It’s worth every penny.

Good evening (or morning) Combo folk. I’ve been invited to post a pic and take my number in your esteemed corner of TB. Here’s my little PJB Session 77 that’s burning some midnight practice oil under the relaxed standards of COVID quarantine sleep patterns.

Bruiser, welcome and thanks for taking me up on the offer! As you see, there’s a welcoming committee upon arrival. Morrighan is probably considered our PBJ authority, but there’s a lot of interest as well. I myself have been hoping we would add a Session 77 owner, so nice job follow the bread crumbs!

For your posting, you are now the 190th member of this fun club here on TB. Best of luck with your PBJ, and please feel free to stop by anytime you wish to share an experience or just chat. Thanks again!

Thx @iagtrplyr ! I will follow crumbs anywhere. Very proud to finally get a number to something.

G-Dog, I looked on the Wiki, and for whatever reason, I don't see a pick of a certain lil GK combo on there. Just to help rectify that, I'm including a more recent shot of my Gatorboy mascot and GK.

I dig the amp just fine. It's the avatar that gives me the shivers! Makes Darth Maul look like a teddy bear!! How could you dare not NOT give him a number? I say, give him anything he wants!:jawdrop::nailbiting::(

"Although my mind's opaque,
I'm thinking more, if just for my own sake.
This quarantine is good.
And I've got time to rectify
all the things that I should."

Oversight rectified, rowdy Roddy! See near the bottom for "Gatorboy".

If anyone else has any other additions or corrections needed to the Combo Club Wiki page, linked in my signature, they are solicted and welcome. Remember, Comboites*, this is your Club resource page. Help me to help you!

Was just running an errand in my car, listening to The Beatles Channel on SiriusXM, as usual, and they say, "We know it's a difficult time, and we want to help. So, from now until May 15th you can stream SiriusXM for free. No credit card, no commitment." :woot:

I am not affiliated with SiriusXM in any way, other than being a paid subscriber and fan of their Beatles Channel. I thought I knew pretty much everything about The Beatles before getting the free trial with a new car a couple years ago. But the interviews and trivia stuff has been a Beatles education to me.

I dunno, looks worth a look. But don't axe me no quexxions or tell me no diffugilties. That's what I heard and that's what I found on their website. I'm just sayin' . . . .

Good to know, 'Dog, thanks. Subscription ran out a bit ago and I haven't lifted a finger to do anything about it. Maybe now would be a good time.

alembic76407, welcome! This must be the week of PBJ, no doubt. I will kindly offer you the same as our newest member, Bruiser Stone, the option to join us in our club known to take a little interest in a fine amp such as yours. Please let me know if you'd like one, since you have already met our other criteria, posting a great pic. I'd be happy to issue you one and G'Dog would more than love to post you a membership ring!

I gots to admit, since getting SiriusXM a few years ago, I gots no desire to listen to broadcast/commercial radio ever. My faves are LSUG, HairNation, Ozzy's Boneyard, the 40's/big band channel, and ESPN. Howzzat for eclectic?

The VERY old joke
and I'm going to say Fiat because more people know Fiat than Skoda. The joke as I heard it is Skoda (who now makes very fine cars, as does Fiat). And the joke is certain far older than that.

How do you make a policeman laugh?
.... tell him someone stole your Fiat.
