In all honesty, I'da gone for the rocker, which I seriously thought about before going back to school. Something about newly-married, responsibilities, blah blah blah.

Yeah. I had a chance to go 'on the road', including internationally. But married, kid on the way, house payments meant I drove 18 wheelers for 23 years.

Since it’s just lamenting, my dad’s dad was a vaudevillian performer, Irish tenor, who toured the country until he was an old man.

Had two boys who were both born on the road and left in Iowa when the marriage didn’t work; finished his life in California playing piano and singing.

He knew of me, who was born in Cali, but I was young when he passed. I still have sheet music in a book of songs he wrote (a lot of moon, spoon, and June) and even a record or two he made. Never played them because they’re 78s, but would like to someday.

Thanks they then a few pictures, he’s as much a mystery to me as I think he was to my dad, who did spend a few years with him in CA before we moved to Iowa.

What does this have to do with the conversation? Nothing and everything.

Photoshopping or not, I've always regretted not getting the extension module* for the Kasino.. Each extension had a power amp(only)inside the cab so that each one put out the same wattage. You could hook up as many as the house power could handle, all tone controlled from the one master amp like mine.
*prolly the 4x12 one

To be serious for a moment or 2[mark down the date and time], my dad played in a coupla local big bands in Miami in the 60's, so I was influenced by that. I played sax in big bands in H.S. and later as a part of the Navy music program. I've always enjoyed that big, full sax and brass sound-10 to 13 horns-plus 3 or 4 rhythm. But I also discovered 'rock' starting ~1957, much to my dad's chagrin.
I s'pose the oddest thing in my musical life is that, given a choice of music jobs that would all pay the same, I woulda played bass clarinet in a symphony orchestra.

A friend of mine retired and is now playing bass clarinet in a couple different concert bands in nearby little towns. He's having a blast!

The concert band I play in needs me on bass since they have 2 bass clarinetists.

Yep, those Good Old Friends like to say that!
I also liked Grace, but I was too young to get a pair of plaid polyesters. But I had two different pairs of parachute pants!

Yeah, I had joined a band in '94 that after 2 months (and not nearly enough practice time) they said that they were going to book a 3 month tour of Europe now that they had me in the band. I had started my first post-graduation job 4 months earlier, and just got married one month earlier. I passed.

Despite their hard recruiting push to get me to go, the stories of infidelity to wives while on the road, and lying to the people booking the shows made me realize it was wise not to trust them.

In the end, I'm pretty sure I made the right choice! Probably you did too!

If I am not mistaken, this is also true of Green Bay Packer season tickets. Once you get them you hold onto them until you die. I think there is a long waiting list for the tickets.
