The Combo Club

The KNIT rule is a guiding principle for posts at a forum completely unrelated to bass, double or electric. I may be the only person to post at both TB and the other place. And very much doubting there are any other intersections between the two forums, I find it's a fair rule to observe anywhere. Unless I'm just telling a story, then hold on to your tort!
There's another place? Woah. Mind - ploosh!

TBH, those 50 y/o speakers do kinda fart out below A on the E string, but it still has pretty big...uh...cojones.

GP, I love it when you speak Spanish. It just makes you sound so much more worldly!

On your other post about the Fender rig you'd love to own, have you skimmed eBay and/or Reverb for such a product? You might get lucky and find one and then your Fender army is complete. Sorry, I'm just trying to help you spend your stimulus money.

Ugh, a substantial payment made to me just came back as "insufficient funds." Already contacted the person who sent it to me, but any purchase is now on the back burner.
:bawl:
Update, my funding issue is being corrected and a new check is going out tomorrow. I believe this one is a cashier's check, so I should be good to go next week.

Don't have the heart to see if MF still has that little bug...

Uh, ... lettink me see. . . . Your Excellency designated our first CC motto just 2 years ago this month(!) as "100 by July" with a specified life of "the next 8 days".

Then there was an appreciation expressed for "the KNIT rule:
K is it Kind
N is it Necessary
I is it Informative
T is it True"
But, this already belonged to another forum and was not officially designated as a CC motto.

That brings us to today, with no current officially designated CC motto. So, how about ...

BE the Combo!
Combo On!
Let's Get Rea-ady To Com-bo-o-o-o!
Got Combo?
A Day With a Combo is Like a Day Without a Backache!
Combo On Board!
Combo: It's All You Need!
My Other Amp is a Combo, Too!
Combo! Combo! Combo!
My Honor Student Plays a Combo!
I Don't Claim To Be a Genius, But I Do Play a Combo!

Or we could just all put our right hands over our collective hearts and recite the Combo Club Creed, which I'm sure we all have memorized, right?

Or does anyone else have any ideas?
.

It chills me to the bone to think what this club would do without you...

Ah, the CCC (Combo Club Creed). Yes, that was one of your better scribes. Everyone should have that memorized in case 007 swoops into your town sometime and gives you a pop quiz. Yes, he has been deputized to do just that. In fact, I've been fined by him, but I'm not going there right now.

As much as I love most of your mottos, which I do think the club should have, I'd like to leave it open to our kingdom to decide. If you'd like, add one to your post and I'll pick the top five that enchant me and we'll vote. Remember, I must be enchanted by your motto, so if it's snoozy it's going where all of G'Dog's duds went.

I'm gonna add one (or a few) of my own: Combos...for the times your back says, No Fridge!

Give me liberty or give me a Trace Elliot Elf Combo (they're so darn expensive)

My Dad belongs to the Combo Club and all I get is this t-shirt

Okay members, get to work. Let's have this done by the end of the workweek (Friday). The unveiling of our club motto will be over the weekend. Gosh, this just became exciting. That, plus my chorus pedal and Dingbat board rolled in today. Just ordered a 12AT7 tube for the effects loop of the Terror Bass this afternoon too. I may actually be good for a while...not.

Carry on, G'Dog. Your work is effecting the world!

My personal motto for posting is the "the FUN Rule":
F is it Funny
U is it Unnecessary
N is it Not always Relevant

Seriously though, as being fairly new to playing bass, there is not a whole lot of technical expertise I can provide. I am on here for the ride, to absorb as much as I can, and enjoy the camaraderie of others who also love the bass and have been playing bass forever.

And being a lefty too, PT! That and enjoying the bass camaraderie is all you need to belong right here!

We used to play(or attempt)a piece in rotating time sigs of 7/8 and 5/4. It was written as a bassoon feature. We have 2 'bassoonists', neither of which could play their part all that well, even after numerous rehearsals. It wasn't written in the string bass part, but I'd heard it enuff times I could 'fake' it better than they could read it. Please forgive a bit of boasting on my part but rehearsals had been stopped so many times to work on their part that some frustration crept in. One of the reasons we played(?) this thing is the title: Alligator Alley, which is the name of a road that runs from Ft. Lauderdale on Florida's east coast to Naples on the west, and, since we're in S.E. FL, it seemed-to the conductor, anyway-appropriate. Well, we made our way through it, sorta, in concert. The crowd was thoroughly unimpressed by the difficulty of the piece and I'm fairly certain applauded politely in appreciation that the damn thing was over.

Thanks for the rich flashback, GP! For me, it was the clarinet section who if they had all night couldn't get the part the conductor asked for improvement on. I mean, we all made our share of hiccups, but the "licorice league" gave new meaning to the word patience. It got to the point where I'd turn my music upside down and try playing it that way. Nicest people though...

Nah. It's one of 2 things I woulda done if I'd known a coupla things. (1) R200h + 2 R112's. (However, 112 cabs are heavier than a 200c, so more PITA.); (B) 2xR100's. 1 for most gigs, both for some*. Also wouldn't have 'needed' the R40, esp. after having the B25 fixed.

I like the "backache" one and your first one, esp. having owned a Fridge, but I don't put any decals/stickers on my gigmobile alluding to the possibility of there being gear inside. Gear I wanna keep.

I hated playing "squeak stick"-all those 'noodling' parts. I switched to bass clarinet in junior high. The conductor said "sorry, the school only had one and it was already assigned". I said "that's OK, I can use my dad's BC.":jawdrop:[stunned look on conductor's face] My last day of playing clarinet.:hyper:

And the bass world is better for your last day in the bass clarinet. I still have the squeaking flashbacks...

You’re not the only one who’s feeling dizzy right now. It’s like a K-Tel commercial for Geezer’s Greatest Hits!

Yet, your drive, your desire, your available time...it’s energizing this club each and every time new motto nominations are posted. Come on folks, jump in with a new idea or a vote for one of those given so far. Thanks, GP, for your contribution.

This club is a republic (sort of). Use the power given to you upon your membership, along with our keen ring.

Here’s a starter: A world without combos is like...
