What I've been doing is recording technical executions I've been practicing with my smrtphne. That in itself has been instructive as I work to prepare a reasonably clean pass. Kind of given up on "perfect".

What I believe I can do is use the DAW as my audio interface and use the computer's camera to record the video. It's not all fancy and such ... it may work when I have a presentable piece. IMO.

In other non-news, the BA108v2 Plus is angled right behind me, pointed at mah haid. Sure sees a lot of use, considering what else is available. Got enough amplification here for any indoor gig I can see, and possibly many outdoor gigs. And same as [most of] you, sitting at home, bored. Lots of practice on the practice amp! :woot:

Oh, M, you may regret telling the world you have the Audiobox USB 96, but I’ll try my best not to bug you all the time. I really like the quality of that little blue box but it has certainly tested my synapses this summer!

The good news is I’ve figured out enough to make a decent bass-only recording for my online orchestra, ie, no music heard on said recording that I play to. But now I want to mesh whatever I’m listening to with my bass playing to create mp3s for list my own. That’s today’s homework.

This is cool. I think a subgroup of the CC is forming; the recording squadron!

I fairly well rely on a metronome because keeping time is A Thing. I've a little drum machine I may be able to plug in on the second line, and monitor with headphones.

edit ... there's a gap between what I'd like to record and what I am capable of recording that I'm working to close.

I always search YouTube every time I get stuck...I have watched a lot of YouTube lol.

And I always use the metronome to record. I also set my tempo in the recording software so this way I have a in time grid for editing. Makes shaving mistakes off or even copy and pasting parts much much easier. Not sure if that is the norm or not or if there is a better way but that is what I do.

Edit: drum machine sounds like a much less sterile idea that could be pretty cool

I’m finally getting used to the click track myself, but it'll never replace a real drum set. I use an online metronome that also has some drum samples and I flick to their simple 4/4 pattern every time.

It’s the cutting and pasting class that I’m about ready to attend today. I think it’ll be another day of less playing and more computer work. Thank goodness it’s a hot and humid July Friday and no lawns to mow.

I’m not sure if it’s the same as pro tools but if I set the tempo on the track it graphs lines perfectly on the beat. It makes it easy. I couldn’t figure out how to do it in audacity. I can loop or copy paste. Next time I’m in there I will snap a few shots. It may be a little with the holiday weekend though. You could also probably YouTube your programs name and copy paste or tempo set or something. YouTube is a savior other wise I’d being trying to figure out how to record still lol

Rick Beato did a demo of the difference between a drum machine (in a Bruno Mars song) and a human drummer (Bernard Purdie in a Steely Dan song). Wow! It showed an otherworldly difference. I have no idea if there are any machines or software that humanize the timekeeping of a metronome. I recall that in the 80s Barcus-Berry Electronics made a rack mounted device to do that but it must’ve fallen into the abyss because for at least twenty years I haven’t met anyone who’s heard of it. I’ve heard jam tracks by human drummers but they’re not terribly flexible. Speed ‘em up or slow ‘em down and the sound goes weird.

YT, like everything else in life, has it’s good and bad, but if you get a video where you can tell the presenter is actually trying to teach as opposed to selling a product, it is invaluable.

I’m, in fact, currently watching about mixing using my entry-level DAW. It’s definitely interesting.

All the talk on recording interests me. Time for me to pull out the garage band and start recording Something if only to hear if I am progressing from beginner to low intermediate. GB has the click track and grid lines as well and has been very easy to work for cut and paste. I use the Drum Beats + app on my phone as my metronome for practicing But have not run it into the FocusRite 2-1 yet. May try that and try to use drop box or something to get the discreet tracks/files to my buddies. ‘Exporting’ songs blends them all to a single mp3 (or other) file for email. Well, time to go noodle....but have to replace my broken headphone cord first...Have a great weekend,all.

ProSonus came with Studio One. Working hard enough daily with my bass to dissuade me from having to work hard to learn a piece of [redacted] software. What I'm wondering is how to record without a click track ... what I'm doing now when I record the video on the smrtphne is use a metronome to one earbud.

Yes following a metronome too closely can sound sterile.

Proving, once again, my dinosaur-ness, My last recording[Europa]was done ~6 years ago on a Tascam 4 tracks on a cassette-1 side only, 2x speed-using a drum track out of a pedal thingy*, my POS electric piano, my THUNDERBIRD, and a tenor sax. Me on everything but the "drums". Just an experiment. I could play the previously recorded tracks back through the 'phones and play whatever into a mic. It came out "OK". Nothing to write home about, just seeing what could be done. IDK a way to upload it. Dunno if I'd wanna.

The pic doesn't display how all the Vox amps can fit together. I just took the picture quickly to show everyone.

The usual set up is the Vox VX50BA lined out to a Vox Pathfinder that acts as a preamp for my Vox MV50CL. The MV50CL is the poweramp, with some EQ contribution, and it is plugged into the Traynor cab. This is my usual set up and I don't use the VX50BA too much. It is usually used as a bi-amp if I want add some grit to my tone or control the synth pedal independently of the bass.

The addition of the new Pathfinder is so I can have another amp and bass set up on the second floor of the house. Plus I could attach it to my main rig if I really wanted to and then run my modified Pathfinder into my Peavey cab (formerly a Peavey Max 300 combo).

Wew. Lots of explanation there.
