Tomorrow I begin my contract obligation, 190 days of various duties. Next Monday is the actual first day with the kids, 14 on-site and 2 online in my room. It’s the the same number in our other two classrooms that I teach too.

Our county, today was at 17% positivity rate and ranked the fourth highest in Iowa. If we hit 20% without student absences we go online. It’s down to 15% with the addition of 10% student absences.

So the staff begins this crazy school tomorrow knowing that each day we’re there and no one gets sick is a victory. Sadly, schools in our area are already canceling on-site instruction just after a few days. Iowa State University, after only two days of school has had 175 new cases!

With that, my summer is over and it’s been a blast hanging here at all times of the day and night talking music and everything under the sun. I’ll be floating in and out and will keep you up on how things are going.

May your quarter notes never rest and your strings remain flat. Keep things interesting around here and I’ll be talking to ya soon!

Yep, still there. I think they moved to a new building because I don't remember them being on West Michigan just west of campus. Or they did a very significant remodel.

I preferred to haunt Knollwood Tavern and the Pilson Club myself. Pretty much from 88-92.

Bruno's Pizza is still there too. Looks pretty much the same. Which is a good thing, to my thinking. :thumbsup:

Also found out that local amp repair techs are not "essential workers" so they cannot work on my amp until they are called back in. :bored:

Best of luck (and safety) to ya, Doc! And thank you from the bottom of me heart to all the wonderful well wishes. First day and a 12-hr one at that today. Got to see some of our kids, who for the most part are very excited to be coming back. Not as excited as many of their parents, mind you.

VLE is a treble cut - turning it up cuts a greater range of the treble frequencies. The idea was to emulate a more vintage speaker. The more you turn clockwise, the darker it gets.

VPF is a mid cut - it boosts the bass and treble as well. The more you turn it clockwise, I believe the scoop deepens while adding more bottom and top-end.

“What do the VLE and VPF filters do?
The VLE and VPF are useful EQ filters that help you adapt your sound for different styles of music.
The VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) is a shelf EQ that cuts a wider and wider range of high frequencies as you turn it up. Markbass amps are very clear-sounding, and this filter has the effect of drawing you into the mix more, making your sound less present. It's kind of like an "old school" knob!
The VPF (Variable Preshape Filter) boosts lows and highs, and cuts mids. Some call this kind of effect a scoop, a smiley-shape EQ, or an enhance knob. It's very effective for slap bass, pick playing, and driving eighth-note rock.
These two filters can be combined for interesting effects. But remember that they are off when they are all the way counterclockwise--we suggest you start in that position and turn the filters up gradually, one at a time, to hear and understand what they do.”

It’s recommended to leave the EQ alone except to fix room anomalies. Use the other two knobs as your sweetener, or leave them off, fully counterclockwise.

Sparingly is my opinion of usage. I never went past nine or ten o’clock and rarely, if ever, used the VPF. Maybe a little VLE to give it a less modern flavor. Of course, you can mix and match if that’s your pleasure!

Sooooo, received my Fender Rumble 112 v3 cabinet yesterday - in excellent shape and ready to rock. Gonna give her a go under the 500 combo later today. BUT, one thing I found VERY interestink! Bought this on Reverb and the sellers "store" name there is "Lefty Bassist Gear Outlet". Found out after the sale that the seller is a TB member! Check out the Fender Rumble Thread to see his avatar....I think our fearless leader has a doppelganger in TX! :D So just hoping the cab ends up being ambidextrous and not "lefty" only! :laugh::roflmao:

Watch out, the speaker wires might be backwards :).

I’ve owned a 500 for a few years, and am very happy with it.

The good:
Light enough to carry in one hand, powerful enough to cover a medium-sized club without PA support. With an extra 210 cab it shakes the foundations of the building. The build quality is very good, and it doesn’t cost the world.

The (possibly) bad:
You may or may not like the tone. The Rumbles have a definite vintagey sound, and some like their sound more modern. Personally, I love it. A lot has been made of the fact that the XLR out is post-everything, but I’ve never found it to be a problem. I never touch the controls during a show anyway, but a word to the sound person at the sound check will usually sort it. Or get a DI box if it bugs you.

The ugly:
Are you kidding? Look at this thing!
