Of course, yours is souped-up. How did you feel about it before then?
I'm sure this is not new to you, but many a parent has tripped on the devious trap. As a son of divorced parents from a young age: be careful. Make sure you have a connection with him first, find out what he's really into and why. Maintaining that bond is worth so much more than any amount of gifts.
That said, Hotwheels are cool.
Yeah, he loves them. He is currently obsessed with building tracks. Just got this thing home and am so pleased. Such a nice clear tone compared the Acoustic 25 watt I had. That tone could really only be described as muddy.

I wondered about this but didn't know the current draw. With the virus, I've been staying home and using the Studio at low volume or earphones.

I don’t need to speak for M, but I liked mine okay, much like any amp with a dinky speaker. Some are far more critical about 8” speakers than me ( in a small room, I think they sound fine), but you do suffer from not only less lower-frequency notes and typically less output.
The upgraded speaker doesn’t necessarily go a lot lower, but what’s there is much tighter and more focused, plus you can crank the volume and hear nothing but music, unless you’re really bad. Then you hear a lot of wrong notes. It’s a mess...
Again, I liked the v1 of this combo, but for an additional sixty bucks we both have a much more musical-sounding amp that will work nicely for practice and maybe low-level jams with people named Bill.

The Eminence Alpha 8a in the "souped up" Ampeg BA108v2 is rated to 58 Hz. That's fancy talk for "no windows rattled, no small children frightened".
What does the swap from the stocker actually do? Well first you're never going to fry it. To me it sounds tighter, but no guessing on the accuracy of my ears. It also adds a little weight to the combo. So why? For Science! obviously, and also because it sees daily use as my (drum roll) practice amp. Oh yeah for SURE it is good to turn up the gigging amps at home, but that's only because it's just good to turn up gigging amps, Period. And it is with no effort I can get open strings vibrating from the sound pressure at a foot or so

1- is it loud enough for band practice with a guitarist and drummer playing blues and rock?
2- at 50+ pounds, does it sound that good to want to lug that around?

They look awesome. I contemplated the same questions, as I wanted one for awhile too. Are there some good demo videos? the Orange Club may also be a good place to ask about them.
Or you could bump it up a notch and pick up their 110 version for under two bills. Little more bass and headroom. A bit heavier too, but who cares if it’s st home. Or, for the same amount of $, go used and buy a 112 or 115 combo and shake a filling loose. All good choices!
Like many of us, I haven’t had experience with the line so I’m also basing it on what I read. While compared to other brands, the weight is above-average, but in terms of years ago it’s still lightweight.
The big question is that 100 watts gonna be enough? If it’s a ham-fisted pounder and/or full stack maniac, probably not. But if you’re with players who respect volume (and hearing), I think it’s be fine. You’ve also got a DI to run to the PA if you use it live.
C7, it’s one of those trial-and-error times if there’s no way you can audition one. Try asking on the Orange Forum at their website. Nice people.

And yes, I am already digging it. It just sounds so deep and burpy. Even my little Mikro sounds so nice.
