Hello members (and esteemed guests), a belated happy weekend to one and all. For those not in the know, it was Husband's Day yesterday, at least according to #2. I quipped, why isn't every day that? ;)

With that, I decided to push my luck and see what I could get away with. Overall, I did well with zero schoolwork all weekend. tasty vittles throughout, slept in to catch up on some Zs, and pondered pre-ordering the RB-115 combo. Do I need it? Does Swink need his left hand? Of course not, but I treated myself to delicious thoughts of yet another new box...the anticipation, excitement, and euphoric feeling were tempting.

Then I walked downstairs to my music room and reality dealt me with a body blow. wow, I have a bunch of stuff. Too much. But I love each and every item in that magical room. What's a fella to do? But I must consume one of those Rocket Bass combos as if it were a delicious half-pound burger with all the fixins. So over this next month, I'm going to play through all my amps, pedals, and whatevers in order to decide who gets shown the door and who stays until Summer 2022.

As it stands, the Markbass has made the finals because it's my newest and current fave. If I had no other small combo except for it I'd be happy as a clam. Isn't that weird after figuratively :poop: on MB the past couple of years? Just goes to show ya, attitudes can be changed. There's still hope for GP and Ampeg...nah.

First up: the Stage 800. I'm putting my pedalboard away for a bit because it's been out forever. Gonna rely on that fancy onboard high-tech computer to make my playing sound tolerable. That means, SR, I'll be running straight outta the combo to my DAW. Let's see what it sounds like.

Place your bets on who takes a powder, 'cuz something has to go to make room for the 'Peg. My buddies, C7 and Tele aren't gonna be the only two in this club rocking Rockets this summer! Our contestants consist of the Fender Stage 800, Ampeg BA-108 v2+, VOX NuTube combo, VOX Super Beetle rig, PJB Double Four, and the Fender Rumble 100.

I'll offer a brief (yes, I mean it) review of each as I wrap up their audition time. Be patient because May is coming and that tends to be a hectic three-letter word in the education biz. But Papa is shooting for his birthday, 6.13, to be unboxing said combo so I better get to work. And no, M, I'm also leaving out the Terror Bass because sometimes I get myself in one of those moods...

I started thinking the herd too, whatever I haven’t played in six months can go...most of it has. If I don’t like the sound it goes too. Never mind an RB12 is inbound so gotta make room.

Yeah...this dinosaur says, "you don't jump into evolution if your present world is close to perfection." Then, the big rock came and Darwin became famous. And the rest is history ;).

FL, if you're going to get a RB-115 combo, I suggest you also upgrade your Rumble 100 to the 115 Rumble 200 so you can compare the original and the new clone. That would be a review to make Combo Club history!

red, you need a 112 Rumble 100 to compare to the RB-112. Perhaps you could get a deal from Fearless Leader! Then, you could join FL with another history making Combo Club review! ;)

Yes, yes and yes, FL. I would lend you mine but I ain't parting with it and you are too far away.

The Combo 200 with a 1-15 Extension Cab is everything I remember from my Dynaco amp and a 2-15" D140 F Cab from way back then.

I am awaiting a neutral comparison between the RB-115 combo and a Rumble Combo 200.

Bring it on...let the clone wars begin :).

Used the Les Paul 5er>R200c for this morning's gig. Hadda fool with the EQ quite a bit, having not used that pairing for awhile. Sounded really good-like that's a surprise.

Hmmmm - I'll throw down 100 schmacaroons that sez the Rumble 100 and/or Nutone combo is history. Not a move I'd make (couldn't part with a Rumble) but I'm thinking that just may be the way you're leaning!

Well, if he didn't already have a Stage 800, I would agree. I have never tried that, new fangled Nutone so it may, very well have brought something to the table. I don't see FL buying a R200 so, I will wait for someone to A/B one with the Ampeg.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a draw. After all, back in the day, there was Fender, Ampeg and a studio DI, all contributing to THE sound. Should be fun.

^^^;) Agreed, @SoulReflection !! I’m not too sure anyone happy with a Rumble wouldn’t be happy with the Rocket.

Since I like my Rumble 40, and it fills a niche for me (small open mics, practice, etc) I decided to go Ampeg for my 15” for my block party, community BBQ, occasional bigger gig combo. I am looking forward to the comparison, albeit two different wattage/speaker configurations.
I figure the Legacy amp DNA with SGT (Ampeg) and the Rumble EQ with voicing buttons/overdrive can be compared using headphones. That should level the field nicely for each to reveal character differences...I think :headphone:

Blessed with an abundance of amplification, I see the PJB BG-400 is a combo I can use anywhere. Equally capable at every volume level I've tried — and would I even belong here if I haven't said let's see how loud this thing goes. If there's a downside, it's a tank at 40 pounds. One of the upsides is its super-clean yet musical (to my ear), which means in turn it'll take any pedal really well. Instant SVT out of a box that doesn't reach my knee ...

which is of course why I need a Rocket Bass 15 :woot:

Closer to this place we generally agree on as a real world, my actual need is for some kind of amplification I can take with for a month or so. Something I can pack ...

So if FL ends up parting with his Double Four, you'll be in good shape!
:D
