The Combo Club

A Roland BN100, with an 18" driver, was my main gigging amp back in the day. It wasn't too special, but I didn't seem to care.
I didn't care what I played through either. There were fewer offerings then also, and a good percentage of them were dismissible.
Nowadays there's something literally for everyone.

I agree with that except, you have to go really back to the '60's when there weren't many combo options out there. Fortunately for me, I bought a 60 watt Dynaco tube amp with a 2x15" D140 F speaker cab and it was great for that time...the Rumble Combos do it for me now :thumbsup:.

iagtrplyr thanks for the invite. But here's a couple of pics what I have at the house. The basses on the wall are what I have ran thru the Ampeg along with that Warwick so far. I have a Ken Smith CR5 and a Warwick Corvette $$, both fivers, in climate controlled storage that I haven't tried yet. The KS is 95 model and in a bad need of new frets. The $$ well, let's just say I'm pretty easy going as far as basses and I have liked quite a few for what they are but we have had a tussle with bonding and it doesn't get played that much. A very fine German made NT bass but we have had our moments, lol... View attachment 4352400

This post is in a response and invite from iagtrplyr about how well the RB115 does with the B string. To sum it up from the another post I have on another thread, it has no problem handling the the B for my needs.

My word
these Rocket combos look delicious

... still catching up after the events of the last two weeks. Over, and over again, I choose to sweeten my recording signal with the Phil Jones combo's DI. Tweaked the VT Bass a little, and recorded my Music Theory for the Bass Player cohort video after a few minutes' warm-up. The commit I made the day after discharge is a finger permutation exercise.

That left a week, in theory, to put some spit and polish on it before recording day. In practice, that's a week gone owing to a long-planned trip to Chicago. The result is I recorded the homework assignment in one take with no practice done :meh: Which my coach remarked upon, having turned in something reasonably clean

We're all on board today for our monthly cohort Zooms.

I bet the Rocket records beautifully

I'm still gigging a BN100 with a 15 every week at church. Best sounding combo I've ever played. Unfortunately, it's 96 lbs. I would love to see Roland come out with a lighter version of it.

Our group did a Country Club gig last night, 6 to 9. Started with "One Note Samba", "Brazil", and a coupla bossa novas and old standards-dinner music. As more people came in, we got a bit more boisterous 'cos they wanted to dance. The new owner loves our versatility and wants to book us monthly or on a 3 week rotation. Nice little gig, 5 minutes from the house. Shoulda tooken a pic of the setup. Next time. For those who care, my rig for the evening was my Epi EB-0>R40. Plenty for the room. Why no Thunderbird? Space considerations. I'd've been smacking the neck into the left side PA(Bose L-1[2 daisy chained]).

Sounds fun, actually!

Sounds like your in a great band GP.

I would love to get one again to see how it sounds. Maybe it is better than I remember. Mine was an 18, as mentioned, which can make a difference. One thing for sure is that I never felt the need to replace it, although it saw a few basses come and go.

It is. Both guitarists have extensive experience in multiple genres. We could, in theory, do a 3 hour all jazz/standards/Latins gig. 3 of the 4 of us sing lead so we rotate that job. Lotsa harmony too. And most of our gigs are done by 9:30. Great for a bunch of GOF's.

Good choices. I just got a Mikro, ~5lbs, to save my back, neck and shoulders. Wish I still had my 66 EB-0 I got at age 15. And to have so many singers is a real blessing.

RSey716, I'm so sorry for being late in getting you inducted into this prestigious club. I was playing and recording music the past week and loving every minute of it. I'm so glad you decided to take me up on my offer and with all these great pics (especially your RB-115), I'm honored to add you to our esteemed roster. As of today, you will be known as member #252. Congratulations and welcome to our combo-loving family!

FWIW, I think I'll take this next time:

Good to see ya, M. BTW, it does record beautifully. To my ears, it's a tubey-sounding B-15 alone, and when I kick in the SCR-DI pedal, it becomes an SVT, clank and all. I'm a lovin' it.
