The Combo Club

THAT P fat pole is AMAZING!!

It took this amp to show me that!!

Incredible tone from this combo in all settings so far- P tone is Classic- really brings out everything that makes a P- thunderous low end coupled with a mid-punchy, and can get crunchy high end!!
this took every setting- and hit it out of the park!

I really need to get a nice P bass. Like a great dish of Breyer’s Natural Vanilla Bean ice cream- it’s simple, but PERFECT. (You don’t know how good vanilla ice cream is if you haven’t had this!)

Not to be outdone, the Fat Pole Jazz in the bridge did not disappoint! Roll the treble off a bit, dig in with a pick- OMG- shimmery chorus, gnarly envelope filter. With a touch of hair from the SGT circuit, I defer to @Lowbrow great setting of 9;00! I’ve noticed something cool about the SGT- it does the whole “Sag” thing- sort of a note “bloom” effect of softening the attack a bit. Does not rob high end, just blunts it a bit- I’m not sure if that is clear- it’s hard to describe without sounding like talking about a cheeky Malbec with notes of toasted cherry in the nose or something :smug:

I still have to check out the Sidewinder in the Epi EB-3, and the DiMarzio Model One in my 68 Telecaster Bass. Can’t say enough so far- I also need to plug in the extension cab! :woot::bassist::bassist:

Tele, you're my final comment for this evening. First of all, great shots of your gear. It's always a fun trip to the Great Southwest whenever you post something. Second, I bet it felt really good to let the Rocket Bass off the leash. What did ya think? How was the volume? Did the mids cut through at that high volume? I'm guessing so, but I'd like to know your thoughts.

Third, I enjoyed how you explained the SGT circuit. I agree with you but must admit I've gone one step beyond Lb and that's to hike the SGT knob as high as up to noon and it gets even better. You'll swear there's an SVT sitting in your house with your P pickup on the Jag. Maybe that's a stretch, but it totally blows away the Scrambler, IMHO.

Lastly, I love your enthusiasm for your rig. It's always nice when a musician enjoys what they're playing. It's true, when you like what you're hearing you play better as a result. At least that's the excuse I give when I'm stinking up the place...:D

When you like what you’re hearing, you play longer, more often, and better. Yes ! It’s been too long- :bassist::cool:

The Chowny CHB-1 I play (when the cat bass isn't being played) boasts Artec humbuckers in with a nod to the Filter'Trons of yore. And, privately, always a little worried about the Artecs on account of them having little reputation for pickups that sound like Malbec with notes of toasted cherry. Yet get a very useable tone* out of the big blue beast.

it does, it does!

* my intention is to [SomeDay] have the bass rewired Master-Volume-Volume-Tone instead of Volume-Volume-Tone-Tone. It's an un-priority for me as more and more I play only the neck pickup. Big, and fat through even the BA-108. Which is about to get turned on for the first time in a week

Those are cool!! Artecs actually should not be feared- they are a quality Korean pickup- They wound the “Tonerider” branded pickups, and also are behind Wilkinson pickups as well! They DO have a range of quality/price-point, depending on the pickups, but in general, their pickups sound really good! They even make vintage, and hot- wound Sidewinders for EBO/-3.

I’m tempted to nab one. Hot or vintage??? Hmmm. :bassist::bassist::bassist:

(edit)- For my usual guitar’s price point- these are almost ALWAYS considered an “Upgrade”-— hence the Wilkinson branded pickups in the Kaish loaded (Red Tort!) pickguard I got for a $50 pawnshop hardtail Bullet Strat:

Sounds awesome! Only two wires to solder!! (Well four for me- added a Switchcraft jack) :bassist::bassist:

That was a Nice Save!

Fired up the BA108v2+ Saturday for my first crack at practice in a week.

More than once do I think about an Epi EB-0 in my future. A sidewinder is interesting to me on account of it being not typically found on FSOs. Those are the bass tones I chase in basses ....

Here in the future those bass tones in an amp I look to are all slightly coloured by the (likely faulty) memory of the old Peavey TNT combo. It's like I've died and gone to bass amp heaven.

Gig today. Rig(L to R -edge of music stand, bushes, mic stand, stool*, bushes, 1967 THUNDERBIR NR, Rumble 200c, cart, case, more bushes)

* not a production model-this a 'sample'

But, as I always ask you after your gigs, 1) did you have fun? and 2) how was the shrimp?

Prediction: 1) it was fine, and 2) I’ve told you a million times, I hate shrimp!

How did I do? ;)

1) Close. There was a nice breeze coming toward the band stand, directly from the spot-behind the back wall of the bar-where people went to smoke. Said smoke blew right toward us. It was not cigarette smoke and that [stuff] irritates my throat and makes me slightly nauseous.(I haven't messed with that crap in 40+ years. Couldn't during my 23 years of commercial driving). and 2) true.
ADDENDUM: BTW, I have no problem with other folks smoking Brand X. Just please don't share it with me.

Wow! Lovey! Did your vest ever announce for people to "Please Stand Clear! Please Stand Clear! Defibrillating in 10, 9, 8, 7 ..."? My son-in-law says his vest did that a couple times before his surgery, but he was always abled to override it. He says his implant can do it, too! I dunno, I never heard it.
.
No countdown, or if there was, I don't recall. But it was loud. Beep, beep, beep like a Claxton. I stopped it 7 times then my eyes stared off into space for about 15 seconds then Bam, it shocked me back to life. My wife was flipping out. I woke back up and asked her to call my cardiologist, then 911. Lolol. Took a helicopter ride later that morning.

I've got a thought that I figured this club could easily encourage or discourage. Let me know. Wouldn't it be cool to use a Fender Rumble 100 and link it to a new Ampeg RB112? I mean. Maybe not ideal for most but for at least the option to run the Rumble Pre or the Ampeg pre would give you both tones and you'll have that 2-12 powered by 200 watts for your gig. Could it be done?

Gads, I hope you are much better now.

I like to mess around like that too, but I don't have a Rumble of RB amp. I think Gone Plaid has done stuff like that with two Rumbles.

Glad you have that device. Send that three worked doesn't need to lose you just now...

Exactly how to to get a 200W 212!!!

For Ampeg master/Rumble slave, run from Ampeg FX Send to Rumble FX return. It’s a powered speaker in effect.

For Rumble master/Ampeg slave (th’ @GonePlaid setup  ! ) simply run Rumble’s FX sent to Ampeg FX recieve.

Best of both, and you can carry both at the same time! (Well…if your a strong backed youngster! )

S'hound, you're an experimenter and everyone knows I like that. At first, I thought to myself, no, that's an abomination, but after finishing your [post I came to the conclusion, what the heck? If you're using one preamp then maybe the two 12s, both of which are Eminence-built, might be an interesting pair. On the other hand, and in my opinion, mixing the two as equal partners running individually could cause time to literally stop, killing those who live on this planet. Do you want that responsibility on your shoulders? I don't...:rollno:

But go for it if you're curious and tell us what happens!
