Wishing you nothing happens. I’d be more worried about Wilma than Fred any day.
We’ll see what tomorrow brings us. The elements look to be coming together for some bumpy weather. PROTECT THE BASS!![]()
We already had 'Wilma', ~2006.

Well according to what I’ve read you need 10 times the watts to achieve twice the perceived volume. So that means that my 300 watt head is still only about 50% louder at full tilt than your combo there.View attachment 4365517
And ya know what else, M? The Foxy Voxy is currently rocking my world after my successful State 800 stint last week. I felt the need for something a little more intimate and less bombastic, and the Superbeetle has filled in quite nicely.
No, it’s not overly loud and truly a small room, low-powered practice amp, make that expensive practice amp, but does the coffee house, woody vibe beautifully.
If only it had a 10” speaker to give the 50 watts it has more oomph. I still can’t figure out how G’Dog gets his combo to be heard amongst all those pockets and grinders in the jamborees he plays. I gotta confer with Einstein about it...![]()

This is probably a dumb question. But you mentioned moving air @iagtrplyr . You seem well informed on details like this. Ok dumb question. Which moves more air. Two 10” speakers or one 15” speaker?
We have a different benchmark at our house: we’ve been to New Orleans and had breakfast at Brennan’s ($164 with tip). French press coffee and Bananas Foster at the home of both! Mmmmmm, tasty!
The clear (silver, as the cable is visible) Vox curly cable looks killer with my rig. The Vox tuner on my pedalboard is crackerjack. It's a strobe, and dead on. Easy to read in any light, even without my spectacles. Both are quality. ... ...
... ... The Vox bass amp powerful enough for stage? Crickets.
Thinking that IS a beauty, and not having a short scale….I found this gem of a Höfner:

Club bass, teacup knobs etc etc, and a green to die for!!!
I may need one of these…
I’m not sure if I agree with the premise that more speaker surface area equals more volume. Volume is a function of air pressure. A louder sound carries more energy and exerts more pressure on a sensitive object like our ear drum. Unless you increase power ie watts there is no other way produce higher air pressure. In fact increasing the surface area may decrease perceived volume as you are now spreading that power over more drivers and over a greater space. And you are correct, WBB, which is why I lamented about wanting a larger speaker than more power. 50 watts is 50 watts, but there'll be more air movement with the larger speaker st the same power level than with, say, double the power.
Now if Vox had given me 100 watts with a 10” speaker, I’d have been very happy. Acoustic did years ago when I owned their mini-tower head and cab. A hundred watts and ten-inch speaker. It was no where near as sweet sounding as the Superbeetle though, and I wish Korg would’ve thought this out more before putting it on the market.
Of course, at Vox prices, a 100-watt, 10” speaker in a two-piece setup with all the vintage bells and whistles and NuTube circuit design would’ve run $600-800 most likely, and you still would barely be able to practice with anything more then a couple of acoustic guitars!
PS: Being the mad scientist that I am, I have taken the dinky little head and run it through my Rumble cab. Much louder and plenty of boom, but I still wouldn’t gig with it because of lack of a proper DI and the line out it does possess bypasses the Nutube magic entirely.![]()

O, Most Exalted Fearless Leader, here iss link beink to Speaker Cone Area Chart you requested as just one miniscule part of your extensive research for this query, O Great Learned Leader!

However we are no sound sensors but people gathered in a limited space and having more speakers could allow the sound to project more effeiciently. Which could be perceived as an increase in volume.
Last night there were "Severe weather warnings" for our area: high winds, hard rain, excessive lightning. I have one less case than I do basses. After a few moments of deliberation, the Acinonyx went into it's case, and my short scale StingRay stayed out on the rack. This weekend, I'm planning to drive down to Sweetwater and buy a new case to protect the Ray.Wishing you nothing happens. I’d be more worried about Wilma than Fred any day.

Shivering-under-a-tin-roof LikeMrs. Dog and 2 friends and I also had Wilma ... ... in Cancun!!! Tore the tin roof off the thick brick Armory we evacuated to in the first couple hours. We had to re-evacuate to a small neighborhood school building! Then she sat on us for 2 days!! It was like a post apocalyptic movie!!![]()
