The Combo Club

Back to the salt mine for lesson planning and then playing music again tonight with my compadre.

After John’s terrific church service this morning, we ran into our other guitar player from long ago who just happens to be looking for people to play with. We chatted for a while, and have decided to stay in touch as I may have found my partner to begin building a group until the Rev gets back here for good. The guy’s a fantastic rhythm player and a decent lead player to boot; just what we need.

Beside that he plays bass and has an original mid-to-late seventies Precision that’s, unfortunately, not left handed. Beautiful old bass though with a worn maple neck that tells you it’s life story every time you look at it.

Keep the stories coming in on this early fall Sunday where the Bears are currently dominating!

Sounds more like a 60s psychedelic band they played at the Monterey Pip Festival right before Janis Joplin and Big Bro went on. Is that what you were thinking, swink? ;)
Euh.... no

FYI, I'd given some thought to taking a fresh pic of the garage door with all the combos in front of it. Then I realized that would require me to take all of the [stuff] offa the top of the Kasino to be able to roll it outside. Then I'd hafta get the 'emergency' backup amp(P____ MAX110)outta its place in the gigmobile and roll out the other P____(KB300), plus take the covers offa the R40, R100, and R200c and try to remember where I left the Bassman 25.
Nope.

As an update, my new project went well on Sunday. The new drummer is great! She is a bit older than myself, and the guitar player/singer, but has the chops and a great attitude. She also has her own studio and we went with IEMs. My little Vox hybrid head provided the tone shaping and I sounded great. So now I know I can use it to interface with a PA is needed. I am still on a high from playing!

Great news, Doctor! It’s coming together for ya, both the forming of what sounds like a solid group and your unique sound. I’m sure you’ll find it worth the patience you’ve given the whole thing.

One day, and I’m sincerely working on it, I too would like to be sitting in your exact spot as you embark on this new adventure.

Now add Burton Cummings on keys and vocals and you can begin the winter tour!

And if you’re wondering, “Why is FL in so early and seemingly in a good mood?” Because I took my first personal day off (excluding babies being born) in my career! So for me, today will be fun, frolic, lunch out, musical shopping, hanging out with my bro, playing music, and whatever trouble we can get ourselves into!

Then the pumpkin carriage will bring me back home, the horses will revert to mice again, and I’ll head back to tutor my pupils tomorrow...sigh.

I wish you all enjoy your day even half as much as I hope to enjoy mine. Believe me, it’ll still be a terrific day for each of you. Talk later! :)

Aren't you a fellow educator? How are you able to keep such perfect attendance? Between the kids' illnesses, doctors visits, and my own stuff (I had jury duty last month) I don't think I could ever manage to avoid multiple days off in a year.

Last night provided a reason to hold on to all of the [stuff] I've accumulated. I'd been using my Ibanez AGB200 w/ D'Addario tapes>my R40 for concert band. I haven't been able to get the sound I want(hollow wood stage-coupling effect). Even using the MudStandTM wasn't helping. After much tweaking* of amp and bass-and taking the Epi EB-0 last week(didn't help)-I decided just for S&G to take my 20 y/o Bassman 25. Eureka! Voila! Holy ___! There's the sound(s) I want. Once the amp was dialed in, I could just make minor adjustments to the bass's tone knob. Also kinda interesting, I was plugged into the -6db active bass input with the volume @2(not "clock"!). So even though the B25 weighs more than twice as much as the R40, it'll be my amp of choice for that situation.
