The Combo Club

The funny thing with that video was as soon as I saw the Casady bass and stopped listening to the preamp. What do you think of it, M? You kinda lean that direction. Would you consider buying it?

Oh yes I very much considered the JC bass
save for full scale.
My Chowny CHB-1 was available in sapphire burst, and the blue Casidy was a limited run. :meh: Blue wins many points with me. There's blue on my Stingray, and put it there myself.
Ampeg Rocket Bass combos have some blue-ness if I squint really hard.

Sapphire colored glasses?

I already had my Ibanez AGB200 when the JC came out. Which is just as well. Every demo I heard stressed the growl you can get from it. Whoopee fizz. I have no use for growl. Lemme hear the dang thing clean. I can add grit/growl/whatever if I want it(I don't). I can't remove it. Aarrrggh!

Love the sapphire vibe, but here’s the only color we lefties get. Surprisingly, I dig it, but can ya believe it’s not in black? That’s a southpaw’s std issue.

It's sorta like my LPB2/5(see pic)in that it's full scale but the bridge is so far back it seems medium or short.

"Growl" is to me what I get when I dig in hard at the bridge, particularly with a jazz bass. High mids. I might be hard-pressed to get growl out of a hollowbody, but who knows? Never seen a Casidy bass IRL.

Uncertain if blue basses growl, anyway.

Interesting. I’d love to be able to hold it and noodle away for a bit to see if my hunch, like what you’re saying, is correct and that it’s fairly light and plays like a short scale. If so, then I’m adding it to my retirement gift list along with the Hofner. Jack Casady, help me out please! :hyper:

Gone through several sets of strings on mine before settling on La Bella Low Tension Flats. Production is ramping up again, post-Brexit. Turns out I've been playing mine exclusively these three years now — up until the delivery of the Acinonyx a few months back. The Chowny never fails to draw admiring looks Here's a glam shot with the PJB BG-400 combo barely visible — it's astonishing to me how much bass comes out of that tiny amp.

So, order one from a place that accepts returns. If ya don't like it, consider it a rental and send it back.

Where were you with suggestion back in June when I had every day to mess around with it? I can’t find a weight measurement even on the Epiphone site. Strange. What’s cool though is JC plays the exact Epi bass live.

I tried a JC. It's a big bass. If you like narrow necks you won't like the JC.

Doctor, come in and join us. I saw the 1.66” neck width, and yes, I do tend to like Jazz necks and Precision neck is at my outer limits. What really concerns me is I’ve gotten so darned used to the short scale neck and smaller body of the Rogue.

Did you like it’s tone, Doc?

You need a Chowny CHB-1. So do I. 31" neck. Yummy. Left hand models are made to order!!! And the Retro vibes are cool too!
