The Combo Club

I am not sure who made the pedals for Hofner. I do know they had distinct lines of pedals, though. The one I posted previous is from their 'Contemporary' line, and made somewhere in Asia. They also had some higher end German pedals. Neither line did very good, so they don't make them any longer. Nonetheless, I was able to grab some before they disappeared.

Love this one! I'll buy it from ya for one million schmackeroons, if you're interested. I'll have our attorney draw up the bill of sale. Let me know when you're ready to send it south! ;)

I thought that was just me!

Play the same thing every bar? I get confused too easily for that.

Rod, that's when my ADD kicks in and I begin drifting off into La-La Land grooving to the music. Then a giant clam appears and I get all upset, rewind the recording, and trash my track. "Okay, Take 29!" says me. Thank God I have a day job...:sorry:

.
My first pedal experience in 1967 was sensational! The lead guitarist of my high school garage band went on vacation, leaving me, the rhythm guitarist, this flying saucer looking thing that he'd been toying around with for me to toy around with. So far, all he'd got out of it was "I Can't Get No (Satisfaction)" and that was great fun the first 1,000 times the band played it. But it seemed so limited.

I took it home and played "(Satisfaction)" a couple hundred times before messing with the higher strings and getting weider tones. Then I put on a new 45 rpm that also hit some of those high weird tones. Eureka! I set about learning our band's next fuzz song, which we rehearsed diligently.
When the lead player returned, at our next rehearsal, before he setup his rig we sat him down and he got this look of foreboding. We played him our best "Incense and Peppermints", which sounded just like the record to us (kudos to the organist & his Combo Compact!). After which the lead player stood up with tears welling up saying, "So you're kicking me outta the band?!? Well, that Fuzz Face is mine!!" I told him, "No, you're still the lead guitarist, I'll show you this lead. If I can do it, you can do it." And we then rehearsed other songs with him. Funny, though, I don't think he ever really got the true feel for that lead and never liked playing it!

All that to say that, over the decades, I've come to prefer my effects built-in to the amp, preferably a combo. I don't want nobody stealing my thunder! One hand carry, amp, efects & all. Hence my Fender Deluxe 90 DSP, Fender Cyber-Deluxe and Fender G-DEC 30 guitar amps and my Fender B-DEC 30 Bass and Fender Rumble Studio 40 bass amps that I currently enjoy. Things have certainly progressed! The Studio has every effect I think I could ever need, all built-in. No claim to "best in class", but way good enough for anything I'm doing.

YMMV.

Ya know, as much as you drive me nuts with your clandestine plots to have me overthrown (I read F'book, ya know), I must say you may have written the best post of this summer! I actually read every word of it and enjoyed the story immensely. And, as you know, if I'm writing this it carries a lot of weight! ;)

I took away three important pieces of your history too and I'd like to see if the others agree.

1) that your love of modelers has been and currently is as consistent as anything else I've ever read on TB!

2) that you can be a little bada$$ proven by the fact you made your lead guitarist cry. Did ya smile a little?

3) Incredibly, you were old enough to play "Incense and Peppermints" while it was a current hit! forget tribute bands, you were rocking it as a contemporary piece. Sheesh, Woodstock hadn't even happened yet! :jawdrop: So, G'Dog, don't let any young whippersnapper try telling you ya don't know what you're talking about, tell 'em you were there!

Thanks for the post. Take a couple of weeks off to visit your family in Pottsylvania...

As if you couldn’t get any cooler in my book @G-Dog you tell me you played “Incense and Peppermints” in a band in front of people live! THAT is awesome! Too cool for school! Respect!

Uhuhuhuh uh uhuhuh uh uhuhuh! "As if" Uhuhuhuh uhuh uh unuhuh

Wow that one at Reverb is in great shape!
I have a guitar playing friend who has an old Les Paul that has various modules you can plug in to it. Forgot what it’s called. But plug in sound modules was a thing for a bit. That snap in cover on the back is hilarious.
I can't imagine dropping 3K on it though...

Good Saturday morning and welcome to your weekend! Do your best to try a little playing in over the next couple of days. Me? I’m a working on “Kalamazoo” by the Show Ponies and “Seagull” by Bad Company. That one has no bass and I thought about adding some bass synth. Haven’t tried it before and thought it might be fun. What y’all up to for music?

Here’s an Anderton’s bass video highlighting my latest love, the RB-112 and it’s biggest brother, the RB-210. It’s the first time to actually hear the big one and I thought it sounded terrific. Thoughts anyone?

Enjoy your next 48 hours! :hyper:

I might play a little today. Or not...Wait!...An idea just popped into my head! I'll play a few songs from 8-9 PM, which is the time of the condo gig that was 86'ed cos 1(vaxed)resident tested positive. The gig was s'posed to pay pretty good too. :poop:

Addendum:

Oh. Re the demo. What the guys were playing did not show me what the amps can do. As said b4, I'm auditioning the amp, not the players. I'm not the least bit interested in/impressed by the slapandpop [stuff] or the melodic, soloing, up above 12th fret [stuff] either. I got ~1/2 way through the 210 demo and I was done. Normally, I enjoy the Anderton's videos(they did similar with Rumbles, BTW, so it's not just my lack of interest in 'pegs), but this left me wanting...a real demo, not a wankfest.

Watching "the scene" tighten up here on the Isle of Everywhere as fewer and fewer musicians care to gig right now. Plenty of (unpaid) work in front of my Webcam....

GP, at nine o’clock tonight, your time, I’ll give ya a hearty round of applause and yell it, “Mustang Sally!” M sorry to hear about the cancellation but you are in a major hotspot and until those numbers go down I can’t imagine any live play happening. Hope it changes soon!

As for A’tons, couldn’t agree more. Super skilled bass players with a envious history, but it’s so hard to wrap me ears around all that noodling to hear the notes I’d play! Our style of laying down the groove isn’t flashy enough for the YouTubers, I guess.

SR, am I a GOF yet? I’m staring to feel it. :D
