Hey, may I please have 113? 13 is my lucky number, and I would like counted in : )

Questions About a Combo:
I've posted elsewhere, but didn't get much response.

I've got a G&L L2000 bass and an Eden EC210. I play 60s, 70s and some 80s top 40 rock.
I'm thinking about trading for the Orange Crush 100.

Would someone who owns one please tell me about it?
Can it handle small venues?

Thank you.

Hi Corbusier! Orange amps haven't come up here much in daily discussion, but let's see if there's anyone who might be able to help out. I myself am Orange ignorant, but always willing to learn something new. It looks as if you'll trade off some power but with the 15" speaker add a bit more surface area. From what I've read, the Orange is a more aggressive sound (great for punk rock), whereas the Eden is well known for its bottom end. Should be an interesting decision. Club members, the podium is open.

I applied July 17 post 785, for Combo Club membership.
Please count me in.

Yes, sir, you are now our #112th member. Congratulations! I did check post 785 and you did submit a pic, but I only give out a number upon request because sometimes people don't want one. Thanks for joining, Corbusier. Now let's find some opinions about your question.

Congrats PT, you are member #113. You're in good company because one of my lucky numbers is 13 too. I was born on it so it's kind of like a forever fave. I was hoping you'd jump on, but as I mentioned to Corbusier, I don't assume you want a number until you ask for it. I'd love to get Killed_by_Death on the list, but he just likes popping in and talking combos. Thanks for signing up with the CC!

The 100th posting is nearly upon us, folks! Who's gonna land on it first? SoulReflection, aren't you our treasurer? Dang, I can't remember who it is, but whoever is in charge of the club's money, let's offer $1,000 in Combo Club bucks to the winner. What's a CC buck? Well, you can spend it here at the club or...uh, that's it. I know for a fact for $300 CCB, Ghost will let you touch his Acoustic combo, and for $750 he'll let you play through his new Fender Stage 800. I haven't yet because I'm a little short this week. Heck, for $25 G-Dog will let you lift his Kustom Casino combo up off the ground!

Good luck everyone in getting to #100 first!

Figured that to be true. It takes people like us to think of 13 as a "lucky" number!

BTW everyone, I meant the 100th page of the club, not post. We can burn through a hundred posts on one good topic. No, this is pages, so do your part and chime in on something. We've got vintage Fender amps to NuTube technology to a single leather sock. Pick your poison!

Good morning from England. What a start to the day! I awake to find I have been accepted as a member of The Combo Club. I’ve added my membership right at the top of my sig, I couldn’t be more proud!
That building certainly looks impressive and the drinks are on me next time I’m in town!
Thanks for the offer of spare clothes Morrighan, I’ll be sure to call in at the laundromat, glad to see we can have a drink now! The more I think about that single leather sock, the more unsettled I become though!
I see my membership number is 111, just to baffle the hell out of my new American friends, I give you this excerpt from Wikipedia:-

In Cricket, the number 111 is sometimes called "a Nelson" after Admiral Nelson, who allegedly only had "One Eye, One Arm, One Leg" near the end of his life. This is in fact inaccurate - Nelson never lost a leg. Alternate meanings include "One Eye, One Arm, One Ambition" and "One Eye, One Arm, One A***hole".

It is particularly known as a score in Cricket. A score of 111 or multiples thereof (222 = "double nelson", 333 = "triple nelson" and so on) is considered unlucky by some in English Cricket. To combat the bad luck those watching are supposed to lift their feet off the ground, famously the international umpire David Shepherd, had a whole retinue of peculiar mannerisms - hops, shuffles, jiggles and so on since an umpire cannot sit down and raise his feet - that he would indulge in if the score was ever a "Nelson" multiple. Particularly if the number of wickets also matched - 111/1, 222/2 etc.

Who said the English were eccentric?
Have a nice day

Silly Fearless Leader, that mountainous Custom Kasino combo belongs to GonePlaid! But I will accept $25 CCB to let anyone lift it! I'm the guy with the ultralight Vox amp, remember? And, yes, now that you mention it, I believe the architect had recently bought a Vox VX50BA just before designing our clubhouse! Hmmm . . . .

Not to worry, Maggsy, all the restaurants and clubs requiring jacket and tie share access to the Brooks Bros. bespoke outlet onsite, for loans, rentals or purchase; CCB accepted and CC discount is 50%.

But, what's this about cricket scores of 111, 222, 333 and higher??? I thought cricket was like American baseball, but I never heard of a 3 digit score in baseball! Heck, the low 2 digits is a high scoring baseball game! Sometimes that "pond" seems pretty small, others times it's an ocean!

Well, FL, I also forget who the Treasurer is at the moment. I think the accounting department throws that title around like a hot potato! It is quite amazing what they've done with a one-time lifetime dues of $5 per, so far! And, if there's plans to raise it, I, for one, assume the current members will be grandfathered . . . . uh, or, er . . . . grandmothered, as the case may be.

Ha! That Old Chestnut of trying to explain the rules of cricket! Basically the batting side keep scoring runs (running between the wickets) until either all their players are “out” or until they “declare” believing they’ve scored enough runs to now bowl against the other side.
Cricket matches have a variety of formats. Matches can be played over an evening, a day, three days or, for international test matches, five days. It would be in the longer format games that you would see these high scores.
Good news about clothing hire. I might come on my motorbike and I’m sure I wouldn’t get in wearing a leather jacket!

And try explaining the rules of baseball to an Italian. Or the rules of rugby to anyone. No band of any standing anywhere in these known universes is ever going to play one of those songs rugby players sing.

By all accounts Orange amps are pretty dope but that's the whole of my non-experience with them. At question is (I think) is 100 watts enough?

We have folks right here who are rocking the Vox VX50BA on 50 watts as a personal monitor that is also carrying the house (upthread). But it ain't the coliseum. And folks next door who are rocking 50 watt Ampeg amps through a whole bunch of speakers - full fridge goodness with tubes. Their reports include the caveat they're not trying to out-loud The Who at Leeds.

How about The Ox, some Ox-y goodness for everyone and he ain't playing a Rumble but he is playing his P oh man what a tone what presence what were they smoking

At a club benefit i played at recently, another band’s bassist had that Orange combo.
IIRC,he was playing a stingray SUB. The sound guy was abysmal, but he had the cab miked, and i remember thinking the bass sounded good.(the band was kinda of thrash punk sounding trio).
I meant to ask the bassist to plug my Rick bass in for a quick listen, but didn’t get the opportunity.
I do think the Orange amp line are the coolest looking amps ever. My first exposure to them was seeing Wishbone Ash use them in the ‘70’s. So that’s all i got.

RIP Mr Entwhistle!
Funilly enough, the guy who bought my old rig is Craig, the bass player in the excellent British Who tribute band Who’s Next? He is phenomenal and sounds just like The Ox. To have him in my living room playing the bassline to Won’t Get Fooled Again was a very special moment!
So, Morrighan, how does a nice girl like you know about Rugby songs?
I learned quite a few on a coach trip to see Wishbone Ash in Bristol which was organised by the school Rugby team. I was just an impressionable youth at the time.

Just noticed your reference to Wishbone Ash. Great band. There are now two versions, Andy Powell’s and Martyn Turner’s still touring.

Which is why my chops don't even qualify me for the TB mediocre bass club .... And I had an opportunity to see The Who circa 81 but .... well you snooze you lose

I think the words I heard used at university sounded like "rugger hugger" but my hearing, you know ....

Well, the ultralight Vox VX50BA did another stellar job in church today! The regular soundman, another bass fan, was back and he reconnected the subwoofer properly. I didn't have to turn my bass guitar volume all the way up just to get a signal to FOH, like I did last week. So, the Vox did NOT have to carry the house. In fact, I kept turning my bass guitar down more and more, as rehearsal progressed. I suspect the soundman was turning the FOH bass up more each time I turned down! :D

I started with the Vox's controls all at noon, gain, bass, lo mid, hi mid, treble & volume, and left them there the whole time. No overdrive or compression engaged. My pickup selector and fingering position was sufficient for the different tones I wanted.

Hearing the FOH and my amp as well as I did, I was very acutely aware of my dynamics, needing a very soft touch for quiet passages, and really digging into the crescendos, with various feels in between. They have a great sound system when properly setup. Bass feedback has been pretty much eliminated since moving the subwoofer off the altar platform to under the communion table on the main floor.

The Vox VX50BA is doing all the good. Definitely a keeper.

How cool is that. Up on an amp stand makes for a new face. What's the Shure up there do? That's as-fine-a looking Fender as I'll see anytime soon. Strap button on the horn, kind of unusual for semi-hollowbodies? Saves a bit of strap length :woot:

Thank you, m'lady!

The Shure is a wireless transmitter from the amp's Direct Out. It may be the new norm, since I played some months ago. I used it last week, too.

Yes, the Fender Modern Player Starcaster Bass came out in 2015 with the same name guitar and MP Coronado Bass and guitar. I got the SC Bass, with HBs, and the Coronado guitar, with Gretsch p'ups. For semihollow bodies, they are a bit heavy, but worth it. It was a very good year! And I had been very good, as far as Santa knew.

The Starcaster Bass is similar to, though not a reissue of, the 1 or 3 prototypes made, but not released, in the 70s, at the time of the SC guitar release. It is short scaled, with slightly wide neck, which is narrow front-to-back, which I like a lot. I thought it strange that the Coronado guitar arrived first with an unexpected (by me) strap button at the neck plate! Then the Starcaster arrived with the unexpected (by me, again) strap button on the horn!! At 6'2" I like a long strap, so I had to add an extension to the Coronado.

It was an experiment when I converted the SC to BEAD, like last week's P-bass Special and my CIJ Jaguar Bass before it. Thankful, the experiment was a success! It requires a thicker B string than the two long scales, but it works very well that way. And the low C and D in two of today's songs sounded appropriately thunderous and awe-inspiring!
