Recently I put out some feelers with a music shop to maybe get a Cort C4H.

Apparently these are only available overseas----even though both the Cort USA website and 2010 catalog (according to the music shop) list the C4H as being available.

Anyone know something about this or how I might be able to get a C4H in the U.S.?

2004 made in korea cort B4, with swamp ash body, wenge neck, and rosewood fingerboard.
2 soap bar bartolini pick-ups

My B4 is my most often played bass; it's also the one my bandleader likes the sound of most.

Hello.
I bought nice Cort GB75 few weeks ago, here's pic:

The bass is cool. It's 3-piece swamp ash body, maple/maple neck with blocks and binding. Hardware seems very solid - hipshot licensed tuners and bridge is also pretty nice with lots of adjustement options. The bass is quite light (for a 5er) and very comfy to play even with my tiny hands.
The only weak point seems to be in pickups and preamp - all made by mighty mite. It's not entirely bad, but it surely could be WAY better. Changing the electronics is an easy job - there are plenty of 3 knob preamps to buy.
Problem occurs when trying to change pickups... I searched the web for replacements and I was pretty unlucky. I found fitting Nordstrand and Bartolini MM pickup, which could be cool.
But finding appropriate J replacement seems like work for some superhuman. It looks like this pickup has really, really weird dimensions. It might be really hard to change without cutting into wood or pickguard.
I measured dimensions of this pickup and here they are:
length ~ 102mm (slightly over 4 inches)
width ~ 19mm (0.75")
between screws ~ 49mm (a little less than 2 inches)

Is there anyone who can help, please?

Here's the sucker:

Possible solution: I had an idea of purchasing non-matching pickup, pull it from its plastic shell and push it into Cort's original Mighty Mite shell. But it might be really hard to find pickup with exactly matching pole pieces.
So I'm asking if there are some bassists playing 5 string bass with J neck pickup who can provide some dimensions. I made crappy picture of what might help:

Thanks for anyone willing to help.

I hear you about the Mighty Mites; they're not terrible, but they aren't up to what the Cort basses can do. I recently acquired a near mint 12-yr-old Cort B4FL. It came with active Mighty Mites, which I found to be weak at the frequency extremes, not particularly dynamic, and kind of harsh through the treble and midrange.

I replaced them with USA-made passive Bartolinis along with Bart's matching preamp/pots/wiring harness.

Trust me, it's worth the trouble and expense. This is now one sweet-sounding bass with a wide range of tones. Part of the secret was adjusting the pot on the Bart preamp to get a good match with your amp input. The harness also saved a lot of trouble; it almost paid for itself with the tech labor costs that it saved.

Anyhoo, it's good that you found a MM-style Bartolini that fits, because Bartolini also makes a 5-string J neck pickup whose dimensions are Invalid Link Removed. They offer them in single coil or hum-canceling versions.

Unfortunately you'll notice that the diagram doesn't give the spacing on the screw brackets, but I wouldn't be surprised if they matched. As for the difference between 101 mm and 102 mm, nobody will notice the 1 mm difference; that translates to a gap of 1/2 mm--less than two hundredths of an inch--on each end.

I got my pickups and Invalid Link Removed (you'd probably use the 3.3 A/P harness) from Best Bass Gear. They're in New Hampshire and I live on the opposite coast. But they ship immediately via USPS Priority Mail, so I got my parts in two days from when I ordered. Give'em a call and ask about the screw bracket spacing on the Bartolini 101mm x 19 mm J-bass replacements. They are very helpful.

Thanks! I'll ask there... But I'm affraid those ears will be different. There is similar size Nordstrand neck p/u which has those ears too narrow. I think this pickup is more like bridge ones, but in shorter shell. One of Nordstrand bridge pickups has same ears placement, same width, but is 105mm long. I'm affraid this will be the same with those Barts 57...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it might be solved by buying bridge pickup and slightly cut into pickguard to make pickup hole a little longer (about 1,5mm on each side).

I was basically wondering the exact same thing about the exact same bass. I've purchased a Nordstrand MM 5.2 pickup, but I don't know what to do about the J. Also, since I got a really, really good deal on the 5.2, I'm not sure if it's the exact type that's going to fit either.. It's the OLP replacement model, I think. Ah, we'll see when it arrives. Shouldn't be too hard to get a Nord off your hands.

Just got myself an Artisan A6!!! Wooot!!!

the mk-1 pups a bit noisy tho ...other than that it's awesome!!!!

I played one of these the other day, pure awesome, truly incredible 6er, wish I could have taken it home with me!

Was great up high, down low, in the middle, pickups sounded good, as did the preamp, when I added in a touch of eq, wide enough string spacing for comfort, thin enough neck for speed, and quality woods and hardware.

Congrats, sir.

Yeah, seems they changed from a Model A bridge to a Supertone, but either are fantastic.

I googled and the supertone bridge looks different from the Cort's bridge and they didnt say nething about hipshot on their specs...i pretty sure if they have hipshots on them, they would hype it up more :)

Still loving the A6 tho :) awesomeness!!!

Sorry, I said Supertone, I ment TransTone.

And they're licenced Hipshot stuff, made in house, to Hipshot specs, and Hipshot get a cut of the profits. Its quality stuff, espcially them Ultralite tuners.
