The Devi Ever Effects Thread - Fuzz ahoy!

I just got my Ruiner yesterday and I think I almost destroyed my little practice amp so I ran it through my Ampeg(into a fender 410) and well....it`s not what I expected. Its super high gain craziness and while it does boost the lows it`s just so f---ing crazy! I have to spend more time dialing in a workable sound. It`s like the polar opposite of any muff i`ve ever heard! I`m looking forward to working with it some more in the upcoming days.

Devi's are totally like that; not very plug-and-play friendly. Keep fiddling and you'll be amazed at the tones you can create and the riffs you'll write!

I think I'm going to get 2 dark boosts with the SOZO caps and build them.
I have a question for all the ILF people about this though...
Does the Ruiner have SOZO caps?
Is it possible to put them into my hyperion?
That would be totally sick.
Otherwise I could just run the dark boosts together for a ruiner effect,
or I could throw 1 before and 1 after the hyperion...
(which is what I'm really contemplating)

Thanks! I enjoyed watching you play on the devi website. That tele shaped bass with the humbucker looked and sounded killer.

everything ive owned by devi seems to be built for high gain,... usually 9 o'clock volume is where its at for me to start off with!

I unloaded my cherry pop and thought it was weak so turned everything to noon and started playing with the tone knob... didn't realise it was more bass clockwise and BOOM thought the sound was gonna take my head off... just be careful where you have thems dials :D

This was a big week for fuzz for me...first I got an ElectroniX Cross Drive...it goes right on the board: TONS of low end and every part of the control is usable, and volume is good about 10 oclock, but 11 or 9 won't kill ya. It sounds great into the Attack Goat or KP for more brightness.
Then yesterday I got a Runier. I have to try it at full band volume to see if it retains enough bass punch, but the high mid ripping sound is marvelous, just what stacking is supposed to do, ruin things. It's possible It'll need a blend though. Volume is a little less over sensitive than the Karaoki Party, about 1/4 inch usable around 8 ocolck rather than the 1/8 inch usable better-not-touch-it or we'll all need hearing aids...maybe I'll have a special devi board section with a limiter (in case the volume gets accidentally nudged) and a blend...

I've been asked by a couple peeps here and at Devi's forum to demo my Devi twin. This is a Hyperion -> Aenima. Even though she's not making twins anymore, you can still buy each of these pedals individually, or buy the kits and stick 'em in a box together yourself. Sorry for the constant talking and commentary.

Thanks VERY much for this,...
hyperion is my fav and disliked that the aenima was sooo crazy, was very interested to see what other people did with the aenima and I like this configuration!

That sounds so awesome. The doom tone you get from turning both knobs to "bassy" is absolutely blissful:)

I thought I would quote this from devi here for info's sake, for people that keep asking questions answered by this.
devi ever said:
>>>> evolutionary history
NOTE : Just because a pedal's circuit was an evolutionary leap from a previous
pedal's circuit does not necessarily mean the two sound even remotely similar.

Krackle Fuzz 2003 > Tri Fuzz > Super Tri Fuzz > Beautiful Disaster > Truly Beautiful Disaster > Disaster Fuzz (Krackle Fuzz 2007)

Beautiful Disaster >>big evolutionary leap>> Improbability Drive

33 > Dark Boost

Soda Meiser > Year of the Rat
Soda Meiser > Cherry Pop

Torn's Peaker > Never Drive > Desctructo Noctavia
Torn's Peaker > Aenima
Torn's Peaker > US

- - -

>>>> combinations

BIT = 33 + GZ
Bit Mangler = Bit + Vintage Fuzz Master
Devistortion = KP + EB
Dream Mangler = Disaster Fuzz + Vintage Fuzz Master
God Zilla = Vintage Fuzz Master + GZ
Hyperion = Dark Boost + 33
Ruiner = DB + DB
Rocket = Vintage Fuzz Master + Soda Meiser
Shoe Gazer = Soda Meiser + Torn's Peaker
Spectacular Aenima = 33 + Aenima
White Spider = 05 + Torn's Peaker

- - -

>>>> similarities

Soda Meiser picks up where the 33 leaves off
Cherry Pop is like a Soda Meiser, but with a tone control and no chaos function
Vintage Fuzz Master picks up where the Soda Meiser leaves off
GZ is like a subdued Vintage Fuzz Master
Hyperion is like a bigger, clearer, balance of the Soda Meiser and Torn's Peaker
BIT is somewhere in between and outside of all of the above
Disaster Fuzz with the oscillation off is like a brighter, grittier 33
The US is like a more gated, raunchier Torn's Peaker / Aenima
Aenima picks up where the Torn's Peaker leaves off
Never Drive is like a lower gain octave rich, brighter version of the Torn's Peaker
Desctructo Noctavia is like the Never Drive on PCP
Improbability Drive is like a strange mix of all the above
05 is kind of like a lower gain version of the crunch side of the Torn's Peaker... kinda
Electric Brown is of course the LP with out the hiccup

I just bought this custrom finish Hyperion from Fuzzhugger.

Will post pics when it arrives,

I'm a bit worried about how it will sound with my 2 active basses (Schecter C4 and Ibanez SR300DX). But I have 2 passives (Squier Bronco and Squier Vintage Jazz), so I should be okay.

Will post full report aftet I've had a chance to try it with my some of my other pedals.

I think you should be fine, I only use actives and it sounds awesome with both... only thing is you may notice is its tonally different, everything seems to be a bit more high gain... let us know how you get on :)
loving that paintjob too!

Just orderered the DIY kits for Karaoke Party and Soda Meiser to place in a single enclosure I have sitting around with switches, etc. Should be my own gnarly twin pedal when I'm all done.

Can't decide what graphic if any to put on the enclosure though...

Updates when I actually get the boards and wire everything up!

The demo vid I posted back a few posts shows the Hyperion with an active bass.
