The direction of music is toward the bank....for the most part
Maybe, but I doubt it. I think the only genius there might be hype/marketing/advertising. Some where along the line the art of music became the music business. At least in the mainstream. They cram it down the masses throat a million times a day until they think they love it then go buy it, then repeat the process again with the new flavor of the month. The way they mass market, these people could s*#t in a box call 'em brownies and people would bake 'em, eat 'em and line up for more. That's not to say there aren't great artists with integrity making great music. It's just more challenging to find good music.2.7 Million views in a little more then 30 days. It could be genius.
+1. I watched this yesterday after reading a "is this for real" post with a link on it on Invalid Link Removed (which is hosted in the US, curiously enough lol).Look on the bright side: because there aren't any "real" instruments, when the apopcalypse comes, we won't get blamed! Not that it'll be any consolation for being gigless. And guitards will probably find a way to blame it on us anyway...
OTOH, what percentage of views was guys and gals like us listening just so that we could complain about it on a forum?
Bubblegum pop isn't exactly a new phenomenon.
jezus.....i gotta go bang my head against something, then try to restrain myself from setting fire to all my gear.....Rebecca Black - Friday

Genius or the sad state of music today?

This is not getting this many views because people like it. It's gone viral because of people making fun of it.
I found out about it on this [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Not that I think the taste of most modern music listeners is much better, but it's not quite this awful.
Obviously , that's a given. Just saying with all the crap on mainstream radio, it's a little tougher to find more artistic music. It just doesn't get the exposure that the manufactured pop stuff does.
