You may be right, but I've found that the radio hasn't been a factor in my own search for new music in at least 6 or 7 years.

People are watching it because it's so bad, not because it's good. It's featured in a yahoo article as being the worst song of all time.
i've seen more hate than like about this song.
its absolutely terrible.
Oh my god, whenever she says "friday" its like nails on a chalk board! AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
I know people always say that the music industry's always been crap, but come on, look a Led Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, I may not be a fan of some of these bands, but I think they have all been considered fairly mainstream, but they built their careers on being different. I dare anyone to name a band that came out in the past 10 years that has come close to touching any one of these bands. Double dog dare ya.
Music is moving in a thousand different directions now. The good news is that we don't have to eat what the industry feeds us anymore. The bad news, in a sense, is that a listener has to sift through a lot more music to find what they want.

I remember when Soundgarden, RATM, Metallica, REM and a plethora of other genius bands were on the radio. CONSTANTLY.There are a bunch. They just don't hit the radio that often--aside from, say, Queens of the Stone Age.
