Funny story-- for the tone on Horrified, Scott Carlson plugged his Squier P-bass into an orange Boss Distortion pedal, which ran straight into the board. Grindcore incarnate.

Checked em out last night. Some of the songs are pretty good, others...
Well, we'll just say they're epic.
But they have a very interesting sound to them, will listen to further.
Of course you have to include Geezer, he rules all.
I'm still trying to work out when doom became trendy, I think it's Southern Lords fault.

Speaking of Southern Lord.... I'm surprised nobody has mentioned OM. They may lean to the stoner/psych side of the scale, but still pretty doomy... and they're ONLY bass and drums!

For most of the years I've been playing this stuff, it was completely and utterly underground, in the sense that bugger all people took any notice of it, in fact it was generally ridiculed by most of the metal world. The exceptions were The 80's St. Vitus clones, and the Peaceville acts - anything extreme was ignored. Then Sunn o))) came along, promoted by their own label (Southern Lord), and all of a sudden you have short haired guys with glasses going to 'doom' shows...seems trendy to me. We couldn't get a decent gig anywhere not so many years ago, now people will fly us around Europe...it's very, very different.
Of the current bassists in the genre, Albert Witchfinder is probably the most interesting of the crop...excellent feel, and always totally solid live.

boulder was full of stinky hippies... now it's got an inflated population of overly entitled McDoucher's who act like members of mtv's The Hills. Ft. Collins is more hippy-ville now. either way, the mastodon show will kill! also, Pelican is coming through denver April 3rd (marquis theater).
side question, are there any cool venues in Co Springs? in know the black sheep, but that is a sodajerk place (nothing against sodajerk, just an observation). i remember looking up some music/art collective (the loft?) but i couldn't tell if it was cool. any word on those or anywhere else? pueblo maybe?
