The GHS Thread

The Progressive B definitely had some more clarity and definition over the Pressurewound B (for a couple of reasons). The Pressurewound B is still really nice, but like that set in general, it's more mellow and a bit darker sounding.

Out of the two, I still prefer the Progressive B. May look into stringing up my six with a Prog B and then Pressurewound E-C and see/hear how that works.

I've got a 34 inch scale 5 string coming in. I want to put something a bit darker than rounds but not as dark as flats. I usually like a tapered string but I wanna give these a go as I really dig the PW's.

I have thought about combining the Progressive B with other sets as well. The Progressive B is amazing.

I restrung my new fender jazz bass with boomers last night. I usually use d'addarios but the shop was out of the strings i wanted so i got the boomers! The last set of boomers i used was 20 years ago on my rick 4001. I must say they sound fantastic on my fender!!!

I've got Pressurewounds on the fretless. Since its ash & maple, I think I'm going to try some flatwounds though. It's super bright! The Valenti is strung up with Progressives and the newly aquired Squier VMJ5 I just set up with a set of light gauge Pressure Wounds. The B string is not as good as the Progressives to my ear. It's a little darker than I like but I think it's going to be very usable. It's not bad by any means.

Put Candy Apple Red blocks on the Valenti's fretboard. ;)

kind of odd that BSO only stocks the standard long scale sets but not the long scale plus sets. GHS even shows there being long scale plus 5-string sets

Actually, for the longest time the GHS 5-STring sets of progressives were mis-packaged with a Long Scale E-String and all other strings being Long Plus.

The Long Plus E string actually appears to be discontinued... PRB105 is a standard LONG SCALE string 36.5"

For some reason the pricing is not figured correctly on the progressive build your own string set option.

I'll try to fix that this weekend. Should be closer to the actual set....

I finally got around to updating the pricing and also removing any Discontinued Progressive strings from the list.

I still feel the progressive singles are priced differently than their other strings, but I greatly reduced my markup on them. VIP pricing is now taken once the products are added to the cart. There is a new product link for the item as well so do not use old links.

So there is no long plus E or a .136 extra long B strong?

If that's the case, I might have to go back with another maker... :(
