The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

What in God's name are you keeping if you're selling all those?

Ha ha, I am pretty lucky. I have a Noble, a Khan, and a Suncoast F2p - each for a different scenario/setup. I also have a piece of rack gear, my Holy Grail, which is a Kern IP-777.

The stuff I'm selling is amazing and I do love them but, as @scubaduba says, you can't keep everything.

Oh dang...I would imagine the Kern is as good/better than any of this more recent stuff.

The Kern IP-777 was fabled on here often as the best match for a Bergantino IP310. I have never seen one for sale in Australia ever. Maybe one day I will get to try one thru that cab.

This combo sounds nice.

That Trickfish preamp is magical. It makes everything sound better.

Does the same go for the Minnow, since it appears to be the Trilobyte's little brother? (Kinda got the vibe from Jayme Lewis' Minnow demo that there is indeed something a little extra going on) Definitely read some positive vibes about the Minnow here as well.

I've got Pope preamps in two of my basses, might be nice to have a "Pope Preamp in a Box" (EDIT: Feel free to insert like the Sadowsky pedal preamp.

Tonally the same would be said about the Minnow, the Trilobite being a dual channel version with additional I/O capabilities. This thing sounds good.

Hanging to get hold of my Barber Linden EQ. It's been sitting in Chicago for 10 days now. This USPS upheaval is killing me.

As Scuba says, definitely worth the wait. I don't have a Particle Accelerator, but do have a Silver Deluxe, which I understand is quite similar.

I actually find the SD and Linden to work well together and are different enough to warrant keeping both on the board. Possibly because there may be some difference between the big and small Lindens, at least it sounds like that to my ear (I have my small box Linden on another board). I vaguely recall someone mentioning once that the EQ points were slightly different between the two.

I've really been digging on my JHS Colour Box v2 since I picked it up recently, but I haven't heard many opinions around TB about it. What gives? Anyone have any experience with it?

Primarily, the JHS things I've heard about have been some controversy over their cloning of designs. There have been TB threads about it. There was also a pretty heavy discussion on Reddit from a little while back. Some folks seem to like their gear, but maybe the controversy has kept others away. I think I've seen a few positive things about the sound of the Colour Box, but I don't recall the specifics.

The Tech 21 Q\Strip can be set to sound pretty much the same as the Minnow. We shared some settings in the dedicated thread if you're interested.

How do you like it? I am literally on the verge of ordering one but just can't see it got any traction in here which, to me, is surprising given the attention for preamps/DIs. HPF, gain staging, lundahls, parametric EQ with Neve voicing and form factor looks spot on to me.

That lack of feedback actually worries me ... Things usually happen for a reason, don't they?

Yep. I can't compare the Trilobyte to the Minnow, but I did have a Minnow. It just enhances everything you throw at it. A very musical EQ. I sold it recently, but only because I decided to go back to my rackmount setup and needed the funds.
