Nice summary, @chadhargis. It resonates quite well with my thoughts. The Range dial is the gamechanger on the Oracle much like the Fat switch is on the Shaw. I agree that in a live mix with significant FOH support there would be little audible difference between the SLO and Oracle (or Noble for that matter). I prefer the EQ section of the Oracle to that of the Shaw, Noble, and SLO.

Have you tried turning the Treble knob back to like 9:00 (or even 8:00) and engaging the Hi switch? I really liked that in combo with the bass knob turned up to around 2:00.

I haven't tried that, but it makes sense that it would sound good. I spent some time reading about the EQ. It's simple, but at the same time...flexible. The Oracle EQ is far better than the Noble and better than the Shaw too as the Shaw only had a Mid switch similar to so of the old flip top amps.

Question for the RNDI folks: Does the parallel "thru" work even if the unit isn't powered? (i.e. do you need phantom power to pass signal through to your amp?)

Also am I correct assuming the "Neve tone magic" is on the XLR only and the thru is unaffected?

Just like Scuba...yes...I use my live rig for practice and power the RNDI by enabling phantom power on my mixer.

Great question...I've never hooked anything up to the thru output...but I would expect it to be a completely unaffected signal. A true "through".

I've been using my Phil Jones for everything in the past few weeks (power amp is on the doctor's call). It's great for headphone stuff, but it sounds like you want a preamp with headphone ability... The Trilobite looks good; I know FOdera has one as well...

Good point. I just saw a phil jones in the classifieds and thought that it might be the perfect solution for practice especially since I have a very high quality amp for live and recording (Bergantino HP Forte).
