I decided to offer a home to this "sleak boy" 
: IBBY SR400PB - it's the 2008 Limited Edition.
The picture doesn't do justice to its finish - absolutely stunning
There are some minor (but interesting and appealing) changes to the SR design which may offer a hint to what the future (2009) will bring to this line...man, the desing looks sharp & very high end

And it's about time--the Soundgear basses haven't really changed since 1988...

The top is poplar burl (w/ matching headstock); the color is supposed to be charcoal brown, but in reality it looks nicer, with a slightly red tint.
As you know the SR bodies have rounded edges; this one however has a thinner body than a normal SR and the edges were shaped and arched in a more pronounced angle so that the upper horn's profile is actually triangular.
The headstock has a more pronounced cut and is now slightly oriented to the left. The SDGR logo is not just painted on.
It's very light; the necks feels even thinner than a normal SR neck; it has a separate battery compartment - and that's actually the only thing that bugs me: the cable for the battery connection is so short, that is a real pain to change the battery!
Other than that, after a quarter of truss rod turn and intonation, it plays fine I'll prolly keep this one no matter what, it's so nice! All in all it looks like a far more expensive bass and I think this is the direction Ibanez goes these days: they try to offer as many custom shop/high end options as possible for a few money (I mean looks at the new BTBs, lots of cool stuff and high end components).

Ibanez seems to really be taking their kinda worn-out designs to a new level. I love the look of the new BTB as well.
I wish that Ibanez made higher-end basses with P+J pickups, to tell you the truth. I prefer single coil pickups to humbuckers and if you don't want the Bart soapbars, you're kinda out of luck with Ibanez nowadays.
Don't get me wrong--they're great pickups and they are really versatile, but I prefer brighter-sounding pickups (I lik Dimarzios) and Bartolinis are just very dark. And I have a little trouble coming to terms with the intricate on-board tone-shaping circuits.
That's just me, though. The new SRs are awesome!
Hehe, thank you! Actually it was a very lucky find because the local Ibby dealer usually has just a handful of basses (not even enough to cover all the Ibby series).
I don't find Bartolini dark sounding, just more focused on meds and with an aggressive sound. I really like 'em, but agreed, it's a matter of personal taste.
You can still try an EDB550/555 - really great basses, with a precise, clean and warm tone IMO

Possibly. I like a lot of mids, so that makes me feel a bit more open towards them (if Ibanez has them in their basses, they must be good!), but I think it's the precision and jazz combo that turns me on.
I like very little between the pickup and the output, too, and I don't like the pickups to be wired to one output (I like stereo--so you can hog two amps with one bass haha), so I think all the extra tone controls on the BTB and SR basses put me off a little bit, not the pickups.
Those SR650PB's are beautiful! - I just saw one, and took a few digital pics of it today while I was trying out a SR535.
