Anyone recognize this thing?Can anyone tell what year this is from?
It's posted as an SR305 and it has soapbar humbuckers but it only has 3 knobs...
Yeah, it's the bass from post #48! It also shows up in the '96 and '97 Ibanez catalogs.
This isn't my bass, I was just wondering if someone can guess the "generation" it was from based on looks. Sounds like it's a 96/97 bass.
ok I looked at the Ibby serial charts, and this Gio says MIC, but the J08 means indonesian 2008????

nowhere does it say it is a gio 200/300...nothing.
the thing is puzzling me since there are ads out there that say 200, and some that say 300 in the gio line....

Indonesian Made Ibanez
These guitars start with the following

The example serial number is K031034335
K=KWO
03=2003
10=Oct. So 01= Jan 12=Dec
34335 it is from the Acoustic range
So 00001 to 49999 are Acoustic Guitars, 50000 to 99999 are electric guitars and electric basses
All 3 factories use the same serial number system
So I am confused, my serial tells me that my ATK305 was made June 2007 in CORT Indonesia and is an acoustic...

My first (and so far only) bass is a GSR 190 I got as part of the JumpStart pack. Everything else in the pack required replacing/upgrading, but the bass has never failed me yet!
My First Ibanez came after my third bass, a B.C. Rich Mockingbird (Blue).
Black, NT, Gold Hardware, Small Headstock Fretless (Ebony), 9v active electronics, I think it was a 940. Had the small shape as the present Prestige line.
Got discouraged with music and sold it.
7 years later wanted to build credit and wanted a bass, a 5-String. I found an Ergodyne 605 (or something like that) in 5 String tight spacing.
Did not like the string spacing, but I put up with it. (Later a Jackson C-20 passive shamed its output, the pups were monsterous.)
Got some exposure to Boutique instruments, in particular a Fodera which was supposed to be the best in the world, at $6K I was not going to question that. Played a couple of Basses made by a private Builder Gaddis Tippet, and I'd have to say, since he was following the Fodera in aspects, he was making good instruments, and was at least as good.
Yet, neither his Bass nor the Fodera turned me on that I would be bummed out that I could not reach them $ wise.
Got to play Adam's personal Signature Bass in Raleigh NC. The extreme low action had me scratching my head.
Later got a boutique instrument that played better than my 605. It was a $5k instrument that was only worth $795 at pawn. The Drummer and Guitarist I was working with loved it, I enjoyed playing it, and it taught me alot about what to look for in a Bass, but it was way TOO Bright.
After a run in with the allegedly Christin builder when I tried to get it some help as he hung the bridge crooked, I got rid of it, as I hated the idea of liking something I could not afford to replace, nor maintain by the builder. So, it went to Asia for $1400.
Walking into GC looking for a 5 String to replace the money eater, I checked string spacing as I walked around.
I pulled a $2500-3000 MV Pedulla ThunderBass 5 that sounded like Lowend only. It had no highs, and no brightness at all. Dark wood an tone reminded me of the Warwicks and Tobias Basses I had tried in every store I had been to since moving into a city.
Figuring the value of the bass to me, when the SM showed up and asked what I thought I said for $300.00 I would consider it, as I put it away.
A but later I found a 5 with 19-20mm Spacing and pulled it down.
I was shocked to see it was an Ibanez Product, a BTB455QMTBK.
Hooked it up to the same amp I was playing the MVP through, and the thing just sang out. It was literally inspiring. I never found nor played any instrument like it.
I took it homeat $555. Later found a Blue 405 as I wanted some Color, and bought it for $375. It was delivered by mail and the truss rod exploded out of the side of the neck. I called on it and was sent another immediately. (must not have paid extra for some abuse?)
That Bass is the one a Recording Nut wanted to buy, out of all of them, the cheaspest.
Found a Purple/Red on Ebay and got that one for $380.
Then I discovered that I could get a 6 String with Barts in the BTB456, so I had GC bring one in ($650), while I also got a 1006 Fretless used ($880).
One day I awakened to the realization that I have owned 7 Ibanez Basses
That was never in my plan, but since I was not drawn to Fender and MusicMan and had a neck issue with my B.C. Rich, I remained shy about Basses over $1K. If a bass is going to lose 75% of its value I have found Ibanez BTB to be reasonable and inspiring.
I had a local Luthier in Knoxville Set up the Ibanez Basses to have sub 1mm on the high and sub 2mm on the lowB.
It has just gotten better and found myself playing things I never imagined.
I contacted an old acquaintence Adam Nitti about both the mess with the maker of the boutique Bass, and then about the Ibanezes.
Last Week Adam made it official that he is an Ibanez endorser and received his First Custom SR Prestige 6, Blue and wide 19mm spacing and real Barts.
Wow......
and I sold Adam the OAP JBL stocked cab he used until he signed on to SWR.
Cool.
As for Adam's new "Main" Bass:
I love the color!
I am intrigued about the tone with the Prestige Small Body.
I probably would have stayed with the BTB attributes of the monorail II Bridge, the Vari-Mid3 Electronics, and I would have prefered a Bolt On and Book Matched QM Full Top.
Hope to doon hear him tear my face off with his new bass, as he always has.
Keep saving your money Ibanezites.
After my Boutique chapter, the BTB sect is not missing anything out there except the expense, abuse, and disappointment.

I would love the BTB if it weren't for its hideous looks (okay, it's not THAT bad, but it ain't pretty). I also can't really get into the 35 inch scale. I like it for the B string, but not for the higher strings.
I'm looking at the new SR Premium line with great interest. They have a smart control scheme, they have Nordstrand pickups, they're made in the USA and they are made with good woods.

Mine are older. Bolt ons to be punchy, as Adam said was his observation.
The Wood in the new 6's are just not attractive to me. QM #1 FM #2 Birdseye #3
I grew up on DBV, so scale does not mean anything to me.

Premium does not have a 6er in the line. Website says USA only in regards to the Nostrands. So it does not have my interest.
Also not into the big "SR" logo myself. Would be a good thing for the Co. on a big endorsment for visibility.
Body size is of interest though, like my old Fretless.

ya I know it says MIC, but then the serial would not match... I'm not worried about where it came from, just curious as anyone would be when there is a mystery
haha and no the OEM bridge broke a screwhead in the saddle while I was intonating it when I first got it and I threw that bridge in the parts drawer. I have a ton of Jacksons and Jackson parts, and tossed it on the unit. ( same for that old dualrail and when I threw that terrible phat2 out it now holds a j2000 Jackson pre that also came out of an old Jackson )
That serial # was added on after the bass was made. Who knows why; the stamp that that labels it has to use a different number every time; maybe it was broke that day, and they put that sticker on at the place it ships out at. Either way, it's a low-budget Chinese bass, so it's no biggie.
I thought that might be the case. Even on their low end stuff, Ibanez isn't one to have a bunch of crooked serial numbers stuck on.
I'm borrowing a TRB15 5 string from '93 or so. I could only find specs- any feedback is, imo, long gone, or didn't exist in the first place.
For what it's worth, The TRB15 is a pretty good bass for the price of £200- a bit lacking in bass though.
