The fret is high which need to level with the others frets, by putting a little paper under the string at the nut it raise it to clear the fret when I hit the E on the B string so the back clear the E flat fret.

So its not a fitment issue but an issue needed a fretjob.

All the frets are good just this one is high, I may be able to fix it myself.
If I get it right you have a buzz at the back of the string - behind the fretted note - not at the part producing the note. If so the buzz does not go to the amp, it's only you hearing it acoustically.
Do you get a buzz with the C/C#/D notes on the B string?
It might be just a truss rod adjustment needed.

These have got to be some of the most beautiful instruments I've ever seen. How would one describe the sound? I'll try looking it up on youtube, but I figure you guys probably have a good idea

Right behind the fretted note. What the spec on the gap at the 8th fretted if you know. No other frets buzz.
Hi everyone. I just picked up a BSR6GN here on Talkbass from Latinbass. A great guy - flawless transaction. I am totally digging this bass. I got it on a Friday, and spent that weekend in the studio laying down 8 tracks for a funk/rock group I am in. I also had a club gig that weekend, and it did not dissapoint. I managed to log about 20 hours of play on it in that first weekend.
It took me a loooooong time to make the decision to spend this kind of money on a bass, but I am glad I did. I have been looking for the right one for well over a year now, and I think I got it. I was set on an EG or GN model, and I am happy I was patient. This is an instrument to last a lifetime. I play relatively steadily (part time), and lately I am averaging about 6 gigs a month. I am currently in the funk/rock band I mentioned above and a jazz/fusion trio.
For the last several years, I have been playing an Ibanez BTB456 bolt-on six that is pretty decent, but obviously not in the same league as the Smith. I also have an early 90's Carvin LF75F fretless 5 string that I have played since '95 or so.

No measurements, I just go by eye ear & feel.
I'm guessing you need to loosen the truss rod a bit.
It is possible that the slot at the nut is too low, but... it's a Ken Smith and it's a brass nut... ya' know.

What's the core wood on your bass? It looks like alder. Usually there's a high contrast between core and top/back woods. I really like the subtle contrast your bass has.

That'd be pretty awesome of you man, I went and looked up some youtube videos with them and they sound fantastic! I once had a 99 Peavey Cirrus USA that people referred to as a "Poor man's Ken Smith", and it somewhat seems that way after hearing the videos. I wouldn't mind getting another one of those.
I have had to work my way up to it. I played 4 strings in the 80's. Then, I thought I'd try a 5 in the 90's. I kept with that for quite a while. Then I got a 6 in 2007 or 2008. At this rate, maybe I'll try a 7 in 2020 or so...
occasionally they pop up at decent prices with a little bit of wear on them...
I picked up a few like that and ended up getting rid of them a few months later... But i have always kept my two original instruments which I will probably never sell...

For the money, a Cirrus USA is about a close to the "Smith Sound" as you can get. Still.......there is nothing like a Smith!

Man, I'm still in shock and awe over the instruments here. One day I'll definitely have to play one.
Hi all you Ken Smith fans. Back in 1983 I was looking into getting a custom bass. One of the brands I looked into was Ken Smith. I eventually opted to go with Fodera. Yesterday, while going through some of my memorabilia, I came across the original '83 brochures, price list, review and ad they sent me in response to my inquiry.
