Exactly, I find them a bit to harsh and with no subtleties at all. There are things a like about most pre but not a fan of those guys.

I started using Barts again because Mike and Crew. I wanted to have a Bass that was 'Mike's vision' and I have been pleasantly surprised how much I like this pre. I totally prefer the dual mids over a single midrange control as well.

The main thing that typically bugged me with the aggies is of course the too much gain thing, but also that the treble was voiced too high. In certain configs, or if used carefully, they can work ok... not be like "i can't wait to get that POS out of this bass", but, given a new build with my choice, I'd always go bart/nord... or maybe east or flexcore.

That's exactly how mine is! Too hot! I have to go to -7db on my amp to make it sound normal loud....I thought the Bart in my roscoe was a bit hot too though. I wonder if I buy a john east ML will put it in for me. Anyway I should stop dreaming until I get money again and at least until Lull #3 is finished and shipped to me!!!

The Roscoe should have a gain adjustment in the control cavity.

8 lbs or less? I get that lighter basses > heavier ones but that's getting to the point when I wonder about the natural harmonics and resonance of the woods with such a light bass.

Odd I thought that too...the heavier basses used to sing more....and feel like the notes were more solid...until I got a Lull Jazz! its a hair under 8 and just sings! with no dead spots what so ever!

I wish I knew that before I traded it!!! but then again I traded it for my new Lull V4 and I couldnt be happier! I will never regret that trade! My new one coming is my 4th Lull and I just started playing them in April!

Every bass I ever had though that weighed a ton all sounded great! The lighter ones were hit or miss...except every Lull I have had so far has been a massive hit! It totally cured my GAS for anything else! I was trying 2-3 basses a month for almost 3 years now until I found my V4 TC4 P4 and PJ4!!! now I only GAS for another Lull!
I built a Warmoth that weighed like 11 lbs..mahogany rosewood neck and top....with a john east retro deluxe and it was amazing sounding! The john east preamp was probably the best I have tried and I have pretty much had everything over the last few years.
Only thing I wish I had was a Lull that had blocks and binding.....but he doesnt do binding!
I think thats my GAS....a Lull with blocks binding a john east preamp....PJ with a big single or dual coil for the J.....man that sounds expensive! lol

Hey guys,

Thought I'd post some pics of my TC5 in here as well. Haven't been able to put it down since. It's my first five string and absolutely love it! Playability is perfect after I gave the neck a bit more relief. B string is killer in lower positions, but now that the strings are "worn in" it's great on the whole length of the neck. It's got an Aguilar OBP-3 and NS fat stacks. Tonal options are incredible. It's the best bass I've ever played and owned...
