Double Bass the new AI Ten2

I put in an email question to AI on Saturday night- I'll check in again when I hear. I was also curious to get an idea of the relative sensitivity of the cabinet. Numbers aren't so important to me, but I want to be sure that the sensitivity is a little higher than the 4-ohm Acme B2 I'm currently using. I don't push the ol' Clarus too hard, but it really should be paired with a cabinet with higher sensitivity.

The F3 of the Ten2-EX is 40Hz, which is similar to the low response of the Acme line.

Rick from AI sez the Ten2 EX is a 4 ohm cab and that it's sensitivity is roughly the same as an Acme B2. The loss of weight makes this a contender, but I think the cabinet would sound even better with an amp that gives 400+ watts

So if you are using the Ten2 combo or using a separate Clarus +, the wattage is plenty for the EX. Sounds like a winner.

It sounds like Ten2 Combo would need an 8 ohm extension speaker. I'm hoping to get a combo in the near future, but I would like to be able to add an extension cab for louder gigs. I have a Bergantino 112, but I really need to get lighter equipment as I get older. The possibility of using a Ten2 EX with the combo is something I was hoping for.

Thanks Roger :) for contacting AI and posting the info. i guess it is clear now that the Ten2Ex is a 4 Ohm cab (just like the Contra Ex). it can be used with another 4 Ohm cab, such as an EA wizzy or with a Contra, with the load down to 2 Ohms, no problem, with a Clarus or Focus, or i guess the EA Doubler. Bob Gollihur's website reflected (and now reflects) the correct info: 4 Ohm cab. Gee, glad we got that one figured out!

There doesn't seem to be a lot of new discussion going on about actual gigging experiences with this new combo. I'm hoping that those of you who actually have been using it on gigs could comment on things like tone, volume, and sound dispersion. Bob Gollihur has been selling them now for a few weeks, so they must be out there. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I played a moderate volume local PBS TV gig over the weekend with the Ten2-EX and my old(er) Coda III combo, doubling on DB and bass Ukulele. I was only using the amp for on stage monitoring as my signal was going direct to the board. I had the Coda near me and the Ten2-EX back behind (And slightly below) the drummer and conga players, with the volume up just high enough to hear myself. After the first set (The same 40 minute set was played 3X to get all the desired camera shots.) both percussionists came up to me and said,"Is that new? It's really punchy and I can hear everything, it's great!".
I haven't gigged the full Ten2 and Ten2-EX yet.

Because I had what may have been the very first Ten2Ex cabinet sold, I weighed in early in this thread with my impressions of working with this cabinet driven by my SIII Focus. I wanted everyone to know that this combination continues to be my main amp and I couldn't be happier. The only other cabinet that I can possibly compare it to would be the Acme's, with their equally full range.

It is a very full, rich sound, considerably different from the Wizzy10, although I like the Wizzy10 as well and intend on bringing it as an extension cabinet to pair with the Ten2Ex the first time I get a gig that may require a lot of volume. Five or six months of gigging later, I've just not had the need to bring along another cabinet.

I use my Contra III with the Ten2EX. Night and day difference. The thing kicks!

I'm sure the combo is just as great.

Hi,

I was thinking of maybe trying this combination with the Contra II. However, I´m increasingly put off by AI´s sound- I´m speaking of cabinets. The amps are flat and neutral, but the cabs I know all sound very midrange-heavy. Is that the case with the Ten2 EX as well?

Thanks in advance

No. Very full range. Tons of bottom. Just the opposite of mid-range heavy. Similar to all other AI cabs.

"Our Warranty

As a general statement, during the first five years, we will repair for free or replace (at our option) any of our products if they are not functioning as they should. Beyond that, we will fix any of our products without charge no matter how old they are. Both commitments apply whether you are the first owner or the fifteenth.

You are, however, on the hook for the shipping, including assuring that the amp is well protected and insured. But please call first because in many cases a return will not be necessary because we can frequently pinpoint the problem over the phone and ship you a part along with instructions for a DIY repair.

Beyond that, there are a few additional caveats: naturally, free service is only available to products that have not been tampered with or abused, modified, repaired by third parties. And to resuscitate older products, we must be able to get our hands on replacement parts. But in the unlikely event that we don’t have the parts to fix your AI combo or integrated amp, we will offer a generous trade-in for the old unit toward a new one. We can then cannibalize your trade-in for parts.

Bottom line, we don't say that ours is a ”lifetime warranty” or even a ”limited lifetime warranty”. We do, however, commit to treat you the way we would like to be treated. For good."

Anyone using 10x2 combo with the 10x2 EX underneath? I could probably get away with just the combo for half of my gigs, but the swing quintet I play with needs more output. I could also put the combo on top of my Bergantino 112 for louder gigs, but my goal is to reduce size and weight. The stack would also work better for my EBG gigs.

Thanks in advance,

George
