The New, New Julie Slick Thread

This is a re-post from 2015, so it's now been four years....

The fourth EchoTest album is due for release this Spring. It's Spring. Where is my new EchoTest album?????

I just posted this in a different thread, but thought I should post it here also:

It's in 9 separate vids, but if you follow this link it should start at the first and cycle through the rest automatically.

If you don't think this band is something special, I'm not sure we can be friends.....

Just learned that Sweetwater is going to live-stream numerous clinics and performances from this weekend's GearFest, including the Adrian Belew Power Trio at 5:00 this Friday. Everything I know about it, including links, is here:

As GearFest Approaches, Sweetwater Adds Live Streaming for Event Panels and Workshops

BTW, is anybody out there? Nobody other than me has posted in this thread for the last six months, and I rarely even get any "likes" on my posts, so I have no idea if anyone is reading them or checking out the links. I'm happy to keep posting info and links as I come across them, but I won't bother if nobody cares.

If you have never checked out Julie's two solo albums -- "Julie Slick" and "Terroir" -- she recently posted them on Youtube so now you can hear them for free:

Julie Slick - YouTube

Terroir - YouTube

If you like either or both I strongly recommend buying either a physical CD or a "lossless" download, because a lot of it is about sound that isn't well replicated in mp3s or Youtube-quality versions.

If you're not a Slick subscriber at Bandcamp (you are, aren't you??!!), you might not be aware of her ongoing Kickstarter campaign. She's trying to raise money for the final production (specifically, of physical CDs and vinyl) of the forthcoming new album from EchoTest, Daughter of Ocean. Like most Kickstarter campaigns, she's offering a variety of reward packages for various contribution amounts. Here's a link if you're interested:

From what little bits I've heard, this is going to be one hell of an album, which she says has actually been in the works for six years. You're going to want to get it once it's available anyway, so why not pre-order one now -- maybe along with other goodies? (They've already surpassed their official goal of $3000, but my sources tell me that what they really need is considerably more than that.) FWIW, I personally recommend the "Dariush Deluxe" package, which includes an hour-long Skype session with either Julie or Marco. Sign up for that and use it for a bass lesson! I've done a couple of Skype lessons with each of them in the past, and am in the process of signing up for more.

[Disclaimer: As I feel obliged to point out from time to time, I have no financial or other interest in any of this: I'm just a fan-boy who loves this music and wants to help keep it coming.]

It's finally here!

This was released a couple of weeks ago to us VIP Bandcamp subscribers and Kickstarter contributors, so I've had a chance to listen to it several times. This is not a collection of songs to add to your shuffle; it's a classic "concept album" that needs to be treated as such: Sit down between your home stereo speakers, or with headphones, and listen to it all the way through. (Make sure you schedule enough time: It run nearly a full hour!) Think Pink Floyd meets King Crimson, produced by Brian Eno -- with, of course, a modern twist of EchoTest's unique two-bassists sound. Freakin' brilliant!

More good news: Adrian Belew (and Julie, of course) will be touring for several months early next year. He hasn't posted the comprehensive tour schedule yet, but individual venue announcements (and ticket sales) are beginning to pop up here and there around the interwebs. Evidently they are shaking things up for this tour, as explained in this post from Adrian on his Facebook page:

look at this announcement I found:
For more than a decade the Adrian Belew Power Trio stunned audiences around the world.
Now Adrian is ready to re-invent his live show with a new quartet which includes Jordan Perlson
on drums, Saul Zonana on keyboards, guitar, and vocals, and bassist extraordinaire Julie Slick.
The tour dates will be in support of Adrian's newest release "POP-SIDED", coming March 2019.
Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy master musicians playing great songs and having a ball!
Adrian describes the show as, "a more complete picture of most things I've done. More songs,
new songs from the award-winning FLUX app, King Crimson material I haven't played for years,
and a dose of classic Power Trio. It's my intention to make this the best Adrian Belew show ever!”
just to add a few details: the power trio WILL be playing Cruise To The Edge on february 3. I don’t think the trio is over, it could conceivably return at a future point.
but musically the new band is more about presenting my songs from throughout my career. I want to finally do some FLUX material. I want to do King Crimson material the exact way it was done on record (and do krimson stuff the trio could not do). I want to FLUX through my catalog of solo works. I want to do new songs from my new record. I want to touch on material I have done with other artists. and I want to play the best of the power trio.
boy, I sure want a lot!!
anyway, it all starts with shows across the U.S. beginning february 28.
I am psyched!

I'll post a link to the complete schedule when it's announced, but in the meantime try Googling something like "Adrian Belew 2019" to see if anything has popped up yet near you. (I scored VIP tix this morning for a March show in Richmond VA.)
