The Official EBS Club

I had an hd360, a reidmar, and now an original Fafner. Prefer the Fafner to them all. I thought (yrs ago) that the hd360 didn’t have near enough grit and balls compared to my Mesa big block. At the time I was in a heavier band. The big block blew it away. But the tone of the 360 is quite superb. EBS has that nailed. I missed it. So, I sold the Mesa and got a Reidmar. Used that for a while, but I’ve always wanted an original Fafner. Finally found one in decent shape and had it gone through by a top notch tech. We modded it a bit to fit my needs. Also, replaced the tube with a vintage Tele. It’s a killer amp. My only gripe is that it sometimes seems like the attack on the thing isn’t quick enough. When I use my Wal I feel sometimes it’s a bit lacking. Meaning, it’s a bit too smooth or less punchy than I would like. But then for my Vintage jazz basses and Rics it’s hands down the perfect amp ever. So, my advice I guess is to try them out if you can. Or go the pricey way like I did and just buy them all, sell them if you don’t like, trade out. It’s hard to find these amps in local shops around here in the states.

I thought I would bump this thread up since it has been dormant for the last couple of months and also because I recently purchased an EBS Reidmar 750 for less than $600 new with warrantee. :)

I have had it now for about a couple of weeks and have been enjoying experimenting with the EQ, Character, Compressor and Drive and finally took it out to practice last night for tonight's show. We actually practiced at the venue we are playing tonight so I was able to see how it would sound there. Wow, just plain wow! This amp is actually way better than I had hoped for. :hyper:

I know we all like to say that our amps are loud, but man this thing is like really loud with a nice solid low end and a bit of grit dialed in with the Drive at 12:00. No Compression was used, EQ was set with Filter on, Bass at 1:00, Mid at 1:00, Frequency at 1:00, Treble at 12:00, Bright at 12:00, Gain at 11:00 and Master at about 10:00. I was very surprised at how loud and focused it sounded when I walked out into the room away from the stage. My wife even said I needed to turn down as I was too loud with those settings, that never happens. :woot:

Right from the very first song we played (Black Sabbath's War Pigs) I could tell the tone was perfect as well as the amount of grit I was using which was not too much. I was really hoping I would like the amp enough to keep it, I was not expecting it to be so good that it could quite possibly be in my top 3 favorite of current amps owned.

I am definitely gigging this amp tonight as well as tomorrow night. I honestly think for the next month or so I will only be using the Reidmar 750, Magellan 800 and TC RH750 to see how they stack up against each other. It may still be the honeymoon period with both the Magellan and Reidmar, but both of those amps have left a serious impression on me in a very good way.

Edit: Pics coming this weekend after the shows.

So I got use the Reidmar 750 with a GK NEO 410 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with the setting listed on post 543 with the addition of Compression at about 11:00. This is amp is extremely impressive to say the least. It was giving me a very hard and immediate hit with a very tight and focused low end.

The Drive was not too much and my sound guy from Friday liked the DI. My show on Saturday was an outdoor event and I didn't even have to raise the volume or change any EQ settings. It was perfect with the exact same setting as Friday nights indoor show.

I am finding myself wanting to play this amp only right now which is a quite surprising for me. I am also finding that only the Reidmar 750 and Magellan 800 have this slam not many amps have. Not 100% sure right now but I think the Reidmar 750 probably hits a little harder. Again not 100% sure as I need to take out the Magellan 800 again this coming weekend to verify that, but that itch is definitely there to take out the Reidmar again.

I'm quite surprised there really isn't much on Talkbass on this amp, or actually not too much on EBS in general. I'm very happy I gave EBS a try and also want to thank @tombowlus for providing me with some information on the amp that helped push me forward into buying it.

I know I promised pics this weekend, but I forgot to take some before the show. Oops. So here is an earlier pic of it in my loft with slightly different settings than what I actually used:

I don’t get it either. Clearly, in the US people are unaware of the company. The price tag for their amps and cabs is up there too. If your a serious bass player you gotta check them out to know what you could or could not be missing.

I remember years ago when I discovered them through an artist I liked i really had to jump through hoops to get the stuff. Distribution at the time was weak to say the least. Not many would do as I did just to get a particular amp or cab.

I hear you. When I was looking there were only a few stores listing them here in the US and only 2 had them available. And from those 2 only 1 let me have a at under $600.

Now that I know how good this amp is, it is easily worth the $700 price tag. Now if only they were more readily available we might be hearing more about this amp.

I'm probably going to be taking out the Magellan 800 this weekend, but I wouldn't be surprised if I take out the Reidmar 750 again. And that is saying something as the Magellan 800 is also a phenomenal amp. :bassist:

Could I get a number, I will have my new EBS Fafner II tomorrow 03-19-08 according to the Tracking number, I will post pics of it, in a day or 2 upon its arrival, and I get it set up, as I will finally be a proud owner of EBS Fafner II....It has taken me a long time to get to this point, not just in finances, but in making the decision to pull the trigger, there are so many options out there? I originally thought I wanted to go with a power amp and a pre-amp, like I already have, but with more power, or go with Mesa Boogie Bassis M-2000 or a Mesa Boogie Titan V12, or a Aguilar DB 750 or DB 751? or The EBS Fafner II just kept calling my name!...BTW, I have never played any EBS Bass gear, some may say, I'm crazy for buying something you have never played, but, I have confidence from the fact I have read every opinion and review I could find in the last few years, from Talk Bass, and social media sites, as well as speaking to other owners of EBS Gear, so thank you to so many of you, that take the time to give facts and opinions on your gear, as it really does help, (Some may say I was crazy to have a custom bass built to my specs, without ever even have played one, and that is my Surine Quest NTV II ( No Regrets ) so I can say I did not hesitate when I saw this one come up for sale....so I immediately sold some gear....I do still have a ISP Beta Bass Rack Preamp, for sale, I want $200.00 shipped, to the lower 48, Full disclosure, it has spent its life in my rack, The Master Volume does have a dirty pot, but once its set, where you want it its fine, I am not concerned with sending it in to have it replaced, that is the reason for the low price, this does come with the Power supply and the Owners Manual. if anyone is interested? please let me know, I have owned it for 5 years, it is in mint condition...pics of the new EBS Fafner II will follow soon...Thank you

That’s great, tds. Welcome to the club! Let me know how you like it as I have the original fafner. I have no doubts that it’s gonna blow your mind!
Thank you, and I will definitely give my feedback , and as far as blowing my mind, that is what I'm really looking forward to, I mean just looking at it, is so impressive, I absolutely love the aesthetics of the Amp, then take into consideration they have been in business for 30 years, and I have really read nothing but great things about EBS, the only complaint that is consistent, is they are too expensive, but I mean look at the Aguilar it is $2,399 ish you know, so you really get what you pay for.

You do get what you pay for. I’ve yet to find an amplifier company I like better. When I had to service my fafner EBS was very easy to work with. Very cooperative considering they dont even make the original fafner anymore. Your purchase should last a lifetime.

That is exactly my thoughts as well, should last a lifetime. I ran it through the 2 Bag End 15's in my house yesterday, Wow, just blown away, and I didn't even turn it up past 2, unbelievable amount of power, and versatility!!...working with my drummer tomorrow, where I can really let loose, very excited, I will get some pics posted soon! I love this!

Welcome, gentlemen (and ladies, if any of you are in fact of that persuasion). I keep telling myself that my 3 EBSes (Drome, HD350, and EBS-1 into a 1500W Crown) are all I need, but those Fafners...

Wow, nice setup tds! Enjoy. The tones are endless!

Hey Kasroc, thank you, I appreciate it.....You are not kidding, this thing is insane!! Honestly its like you said before, this is truly the last amp you will ever have to buy, and sincerely this has way more power than I anticipated, in fact I can only turn it up to about 2.5 to 3.0 with the gain set, just at where the red light clips as suggested in the manual....I can definitely see this powering another set of Bag Ends, or 2 EBS Cabs...As you mentioned about unlimited amount of options for tone, I can again sincerely say, that with everything, off, meaning no character switches, high or low, no tube, no nothing, just the bass plugged in, ( I run Passive ) and gain and Master adjusted, its sounds incredible, I am very surprised at that, usually with any amp, you have to adjust highs or lows or mid's, you know something? but with this , you do not! and it has its own unique sound! Very impressive.....The Amp is built very solid, and made for weightlifters LOL, its a beast, and then add the rack case, adds a few more pounds, but when its on...It is completely worth the weight!

On another note? I'm very curious as if any one has done a side by side, comparison of Bag End and EBS cabs, because I have never played through any EBS gear before I bought this, ( Love It ) and I had also never played through any Bag End before I bought them, and the more I think about how amazing this EBS FAFNER 2 is, it has me very curious as to the impeccability of the EBS cabs?, I do know that EBS and BAG END, both use 3/4 Birch Plywood, so from what I can tell they are similar in their construction? so if anyone has any feedback on the EBS cabs, can you please chime in?.....As I am on the fence of possibly selling my Bag Ends? and buying EBS! Cabs, I know EBS do not make 15's or 18's, and something to keep in mind, is we tune down one full step, and the frequency changes from going from standard pitch to one step down, and the Bag End 15's handle it, but it seems there is still a bit farting out, so I back the bass off a little and it sounds fine! .....I do not want to get into to much technicality, but My low B tuned to A, is monstrous! this is on a 35 inch Scale, so I love the Piano Tone I get! but it would be nice to hear it through a set of 18's.... Now that being said, I do see Peter Iwers, from In Flames, and many other artists that use EBS gear, and they tune down as well, but usually these artists are running 2 EBS 6X10's or 8X10's or 2 4X10's ...so they have more speakers to compensate the overall power to get the clarity, out of the low end, without it farting out?...So any comparisons, or suggestions?

Thank you for the number, I appreciate it...The Fafner II, is mind blowing amazing! Last amp you will ever have to purchase IMHO...You know, I am not of these guys, that says I have played everything for the past 20 years, and this is the best amp ever, because simply put I have not!!! I will say, I used to run EDEN World Tour 800, When I was touring in a country band, with One Eden XLT 4X10 and Ampeg SVT 4 Pro USA Model, for local shows, and some out of state gigs, with 2 4X10 Pro HLF cabs, and then the Carvin into the ISP Beta Bass Pre Amp, with the 2 Bag End 15's...for the last 5 years, and although I do not have all of that gear anymore, so I cannot do a comparison, I will say that the power of this is Mind Blowing, and tone shaping is unlike anything else, I have previously worked with, I am very happy with the EBS FAFNER 2
